Guidelines for Use of DivX Content on the Web

Please follow these guidelines if you use the word DivX® to describe content offered in the DivX format, or if you operate a website that offers DivX content:

  • No generic use: DivX® is a registered trademark of DivX, Inc. and may only be used to describe content offered in the DivX format; not to describe any digital video. If it’s not really a DivX video, please don’t call it that.

  • Use the mark: Use a registered trademark symbol (®) when using the trademark name DivX (e.g., DivX®).

  • Check your spelling: DivX is properly spelled with a capital (uppercase) “D” and “X.” You don’t have to be a spelling bee champ to get it right.

  • Add this to your fine print: If you have a website offering DivX content, you must include the two following disclaimers:
    • “This website is not operated by or affiliated with DivX, Inc.”
    • Either “Designated trademarks and brands are the property of their respective owners.” or “DivX® is a registered trademark of DivX, Inc.”

  • Our name, your URL: You may only use the trademark name “DivX” in your domain name or URL if you exclusively offer content in the DivX format. If you offer DivX and other video formats, get your own name.

  • Don’t steal! We like good movies about as much as the next guy, but we do not endorse or support the unauthorized use of copyrighted materials.
