Server Crashes

To make a long story short ....

I have always had some crashes of the server and I have always blamed my Messed up (Dell installation) Vista Ultimate (32 bit).

I have recently reinstalled Vista from scratch and applied SP1 RC first and RC Refresh 1 later on (no access to refresh 2 here).

As you can imagine always kept the server code updated everytime a new release was available (downloaded myself or self updated).

Even if the number of crashes / issues has been vastly reduced over time I still have random crashes from time to time.

How can I help yaa ? are crash dumps saved somewhere? do I have to enabled some verbose/debug mode to get you stuff to your developers?

Re-scan from sub-folder

According to the release notes one of the new features of this build is that it allows you to rescan from a sub-folder. This feature does not appear to work. When I go to a sub-folder and right-click the rescan option is still greyed out the way it has always been. I am still only able to rescan from the top level folder.

Introducing Zoom-by-Numbers

Hey Beta People,

Here's a breakdown of one of the new features to be rolled out with the next beta release. I'm giving you a preview here, so that you'll have your thumbs ready to test it out as soon as you update.

While viewing a photo, you will be able to use the number pad on your remote control to zoom into a region of the photo and explore it in more detail. The arrow keys will pan your view, while Page Up and Page Down can be used to zoom in and out.

The photo gets divided into 9 regions.

Pressing 2 will expand the 2nd region.

Pressing 7 will expand the 7th region…

… and so on.

Be sure to add some hi-res photos to your library so you can really appreciate this new feature! Update coming shortly...

rescan does not remove deleted folders

moved some stuff, deleted some subfolders in a mapped folder and hoped/thought that rescanning the main folder would result in an update such that deleted folders would also be deleted.
Since that is not the case I'm not sure if this is a missing feature or a bug.

Complaint on Amazon.co.uk

I noticed someone posted a negative review of the DSM-330 on Amazon (link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/ROVRE67OJOHS8/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm ) It could be that he is having the same problem that I was when I had disabled address sharing in the registry (link: http://labs.divx.com/node/670 ). It was very frustrating. I tried to leave a comment, but I am not allowed since I have not purchased the item through Amazon... but I noticed that someone in the Beta already posted a review so maybe that person could suggest he try this. In any case, I don't think the problem he is facing is a fair representation of the product.

Alter the PC Power-Scheme to not go into stand-by when streaming a video

Here's a simple idea.

My PC running the server software is set to power down after an hour if no one has used it. Now, quite frequently I'll head to bed and watch something on my Connected box only to have it stop half way through because my PC went to sleep. Now, I know I could go change my power-setting to that it stays on all night, but as we're all good environmentally conscious people these days, it would be a more elegant solution for the server software to adjust the power settings when it begins to stream content and then change them back when it is done.

I'd like to see a new server option of "Adjust power saving settings when streaming" that would do this.

I seem to remember that Powerlink DVD player or something similar did this too, so that the PC and screen wouldn't turn off half way through watching someting.

server issues with one PC, while another PC works fine.

For a few days now, my desktop where everything is located (we'll call PC1) has had video errors while navigating the UI, some days the whole UI has a blue hue to it, and others it looks completely garbled, nearly unreadable/unuseable.

the thing is, even WITH the errors, videos playback normally, so i had looked past the problem, only now, when i select the PC1 server, either the screen will flash and not connect, or it will connect and just give me a black screen, i am unable to use the box at all with this computer.

connected to another server on my laptop (PC2) everything runs fine, the ugly purple menus show up as purple, no visual errors at all, and media plays fine.

why can i connect to one computer and not the other? and yes i have re-installed the server MANY times on PC1, looked for leftover registry entries and files after uninstall, and installed the latest version.... same problems.

PC1 - XP MCE
C2D E6750
7950GT (latest drivers)
2GB Ram

PC2 - XP MCE
Pentium M - 1.86ghz
Intel 915GM (integrated)
1GB Ram
