Using your Samsung Omnia with DivX
The
New Samsung Omnia has arrived in the US!!!
Q:
I
see the DivX Logo on my device & packaging, what is it for?
A:
This means
you have a certified mobile that has gone through our
certification
process and is
guaranteed to be able to playback all of your properly encoded
.divx
or DivX encoded .avi
video files.
using the built-in
native media player for your phone. Simply transfer your
DivX
Video files from your
PC into a microSD card and slide that into the back of your
phone. The
device will read straight off the storage
card.

Q:
What
does the DivX Icon do?
A:
The DivX Icon itself does not have any functionality aside from
displaying the
VOD
code. The DivX Logo
Icon is ONLY required when you are ready
to register your DivX Certified Omnia for purchasing and renting VOD
content through our
third
party providers.
To locate the VOD code, usually, this will be located in your
phone’s system settings/preferences area. If you
have the
Omnia provided by Verizon that is released in the US, you can generally
find this code by going into the Menu button on the lower-left corner
from your desktop and select “Settings”.
Q:
Where can I go
to learn more about DivX VOD?
A:
Please refer to this FAQ that one of our Mobile Experts has created for
more information on the DivX Video on Demand (VOD) services available
with your DivX Certified phone:
http://labs.divx.com/node/7204
In regards to finding content, please be aware that unfortunately, at
this time, there is no VOD content available in file sizes/resolutions
supported by mobile phones. We therefore suggest keeping in
mind
that you do not need to go through the activation process
unless you
want to view purchased DivX VOD content.
Q:
How can I play DivX video on my
phone?
A:
Please be sure to go through the correct process for video playback on
your
phone.
You have a
couple different ways to access & play your files on the Omnia:
• Executing the Touch Player is
the
easiest:
Click on “Menu” at the bottom right-hand
corner
> click on “Touch
Player”
Once in the Touch Player application, look to the top left-hand corner
right below The title “Touch Player”, you will see
a
menu-like button (please see below), you should see a list of
directories to choose from in your Library. Click on the
“Videos” option. There, you
should see a list
of videos in your queue that you’ve recently watched.
To add a video to playback, please click on “Menu”
in the
lower right-hand corner, then click on “Open
File”.
Once you do that you should see a list of folders. If you do
not
see this list of folders, please click on the
“..” to
get to the directory of folders. You should see
“Storage
Card” in the list. Click on that and you will see a
list of
files in your storage card location. Touch the check box
(circular) next to your video’s file name to select the file,
and
click on “Play” to playback the video file on the
Touch
Player. (Please do not look for a DivX Player.)
• Trying to execute through file
storage area:
Go to your main desktop
>
Go to the Start Menu at the top left corner
>
Programs >
File Explorer.
Once you are in the File Explorer menu, please click on the Device type
drop down menu located right below the File Explorer title in the upper
left-hand corner. Select “Storage Card”
from the
drop-down menu.
Once you click on the video file you would like to play, it should
automatically start playback in the native player (Touch Player).
• If you prefer to use Windows
Media Player to
playback your video files, here’s how:
Start at the Desktop, launch the Windows Media Player application, and
then go to the bottom and click “Now Playing”, you
should
see the files currently listed for playback.

Please click on the little play button looking icon with the green plus
(see picture) at the bottom middle area of the
screen. This
should bring you to the playlist section. Please click on the
Menu button in the lower left corner, then “Open
File”. Click on your Storage Card, then highlight
the video
file you would like to play and click “Play” at the
bottom
left corner.
Q:
Where’s the DivX Player on my phone?
A:
There is no DivX Player application built-into your phone and we
recommend that you DO NOT download the DIVX MOBILE PLAYER from DivX
Labs. Unlike the DivX experience on your computer, you do not
need to install any additional DivX software to your Omnia in order to
playback your video files. Our certification team has made sure that
the media players included on your phone are fully DivX capable of
playing the DivX video format.
Q:
What if I’ve
already downloaded the DivX Mobile Player (DMP) from DivX Labs?
A:
If you have already
downloaded and installed the DivX Mobile Player on your DivX Certified
phone, please remove it through the file management
application/features area on your device (please refer to the user
manual on your phone’s settings to locate exactly where that
is
on your phone). After uninstalling the DivX Mobile Player, you will
still be able to playback your .divx file in the Touch Player or
Windows Media Player on your phone as explained above.
Q:
What if I
receive an “Unauthorized Video” error message when
trying
to play my DivX video file?
A:
This
usually means the video file does not meet the technical specifications
for video playback by the hardware of your phone. For
example, if
the file size, resolution or bitrate of the video file exceed the
permitted maximums, the phone will not be able to play the video file,
regardless of the format. For specifics on what is the maximum
resolution allowed on your phone, please refer to your User’s
Manual. If you know that the video was properly encoded and
just
needs to be in a different resolution, please re-encode it in DivX
Converter to get the correct resolution. We recommend using DivX
Converter’s Mobile profile for best results. For

information, please visit the following Forum posting which goes into a
little bit more detail:

Q:
Registering your phone
for VOD content (copyright protected content):
A:
Once you have located
your DivX VOD account by following the steps above, you can register
your device for VOD content playback. Please view the video
tutorial below, which will describe step-by-step how to register your
DivX Certified device for VOD:
http://labs.divx.com/node/5003
Once you are in the site please click on “How to register
your
DivX Certified device using DivX Player” to start the video.
Please keep in mind that this video demonstrates VOD activation for a
DVD player, and therefore uses a CD for transferring the activation
video from the computer to the device. Mobile phone users
will
instead copy the file to the phone and playback the file in the Touch
Player.
You can launch the activation video for playback through the file
storage area on your phone, as explained above.
Please note: Examples presented on this FAQ are
from the
DivX Certified Omnia released in the US through the Verizon Wireless
Networks. Some variations may apply. For
discrepancies
between the FAQ and your particular phone, please refer to your Users
Manual.
