as printers go

As far as printers go, I personally know that their line of inkjet printers are probably the most expensive printers to run. Forget the purchase price, each of the print cartridges has its own print head in it, very expensive to use.
Their extremely high support

Their extremely high support level is a nightmare for both retail stores and customers. The "support" is done by non-motivated, untrained, pennies per hour offshore contractors, no employees. Heck, it means not paying taxes anymore. The model U.S. company that used to be used as a positive example in so many BA and Graduate Business Programs has been totally destroyed since the hiring of former CEO (the first "outside the organization CEO ever hired, Karly Fiorina, in merging with Compaq and destroying everything that Dave Hewlett and Bill Packard stood for and made hundreds of millions of dollars personally in the wake of her destruction.

I have the same

I have the same problem.......MKV's take too much cpu to encode on the fly. Dr Divx however does not encode properly: frame delay and out of sync.

Tried various typed of encoding. Doesn't work. I would like to watch in Divx HD because CPU usage in only 2-5% and runs flawlessly when downloaded from Stage6 orso (i know is now down). So it clearly is a Dr Divx problem.

I tried Pro codecs but don't seem to help either!

So: How can I encode my mkv (normally H264 files) in a right way to Divx HD?

RE: HD Files .... smoothly & post encoding

I have had similar problems early on in my DivX encoding experiences. I've since then had no problems with play back, after converting to DivX. Infact, I prefer to watch my videos in DiVX format. The prolem I have been running into, is Matroska files in HD. Converter does NOT recognize the format. Using the Dr. DivX... the format is recognized... but yields a very inconcistant playback, with frame delay and the rest. (using 720p media to DivX 720p or even lower) All programs are shut down, graphics all set to minimal settings (VISTA) and system AND Dr. DivX monitor for CPU spikes. As has been mentioned by others... It appears that in dual core processor architectures, only 1 core is really utlized. Still I see that Spikes have been kept at tolerated levels... Is there a problem with converting Matroska files (.mvk) into DivX format... ??
The only other option I had... was to first convert the Matroska file into .wmv using VISTAS built in MovieMaker... (MS... YUCK!) which of course takes longer than the actual DivX conversion and yields a larger file than the original Matroska... and then a DivX file at the original size of the Matroska... I truly have not searched and searched... but I am not finding solutions on (not just playing) working with HD Matroska files and getting a smooth play back. (Disclaimer: I have been encoding and playing large files of 720p as well as 1080p for an extensive time... so its not my encoding technique. Unless there is a technique that has not been released for working with Matroska files)
Is this my only option for watching OR converting my HD Matroska files into DivX format..?? It is easy enough to watch in WMP... but a I have mentioned.... YUCK... I'm a DivX enthusiast.

Possible Solution

TTT
I am aware of others having this issue and as I was browsing for reviews regarding a DVD player which my son and I purchased, one of the reviews gave a link for this problem. It is a Company's site and they have a firmware update for Toshiba DVD Video Player SD-4000. Apparently the serial # has to start with an "M". There are other Toshiba products listed there with firmware updates also. Hopefully this will be the solution for anyone having the "in sync" problems.

Amazon link where I found info:
http://www.amazon.com/review/product/B000MXB0TK/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?%5Fencoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Toshiba link for various product updates:
http://support.toshiba.ca/support/ceg/downloads/index.asp#

Note: when going to the toshiba link for the firmware, you may have to copy and paste in browser. The # sign does not end up in the hyperlink when copied from the site and pasted in email so I don't know if it will here. However, it is a part of the link in the browser at the site.

firmware update link for Toshiba DVD Video Player SD-4000:
http://support.toshiba.ca/support/ceg/downloads/ALL/D000009.asp

Apparently you download update, burn to disk, then run the disk on DVD player, or other product.

HP is no longer "HP"

HP used to be the stand a iof excellence and quality for hardware, measurement equipment, technical support, printers, etc. They would have the highest customer loyalty rate of any Company, year after year.

NOW, it is more like a Packard Bell type of organization. They don't manufacture anything any more. Everything is made to be of the lowest quality, cheap crap that is made in mainland China. They just re-sell.

Their measurement equipment part (which was the original HP), was spun off.

As far as printers go, I personally know that their line of inkjet printers are probably the most expensive printers to run. Forget the purchase price, each of the print cartridges has its own print head in it, very expensive to use.

I am not advertising Canon inkjet printers, the ongoing cost per page is less than 1/2 than of HPs. I would bet, that would be a similar case with other inkjets.

Have to love the ole HP Laser IIIs, made and supported in Boise, Idaho that just ran and ran and ran and ran. A used on probably cost more than they did new.

Please don't think of their lasers, Unix boxes, business level PCs, parts, heavy duty printers and their support of the HP of the past as anything like the current HP. They still are doing a lot of consumer sales off of their cheap prices and their old reputation.

I always make "home grown" PCs anyway.

Thanks,

PLEASE, lets hope that Divx Connected will remove this extreme limitations on the audio support.

PLEASE let it have decoders for the superior sounding , license free, open source codecs like Ogg, FLAC and APE.
AC3 would be nice as well, but having audio only supporting the DRM codecs is way too limiting. We need more flexibility (Like the Cowon portable media players) and all of the PC audio players and have decoders like Oog, FLAC and APE.

These are license free codecs, so I don't see why it would be any difficulty to add.

These audio codecs also can be used when I use VirtualDub and Divx 6.8 to encode videos.

Thanks,

After having trouble installing my new HP printer...
HP support accidently uninstalled the first item on my DivX installation that came with my Dell Hell2005 XP Media Center E-310 computer.
Support...took over my puter...to help me gain enough space to install my printer...but accidently erased the first icon with the "cog-wheel with the X across it on my DivX program?
Do I need to completely UNINSTALL AND START OVER...OR CAN I SOME HOW RETREIVE THAT FIRST ICON DELETED ITEM?
IT WAS QUITE A HORRIFIC ORDEAL DEALING WITH HP....I CAN ASSURE YOU!!!
"NEVER LET HP TAKE OVER YOUR PUTER' ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY SPEAK SO LITTLE ENGISH!!!
HELP!!! :)

would be nice if stuff inside containers like mp4/mkv would be required to be reencoded unless necessary, e.g. when using mkv with xvid and ogg vorbis it might be enought to reencode the audio part,...
