So I downloaded DivX for my Pocket PC. And oh my god. I'm so, incredibly impressed. Unlike the DivX Player for PC, the player for PPC is actually a huge improvement over ANY other "Free" alternatives. So much software on the PPC is payware/shareware/scamware, it's nearly impossible to find software for the PPC that's free. Or if it is free, it sucks (like PocketMusic, which also sucks on its full version trial). Hell, many payware programs even suck.

DivX works (well.... ALMOST...) flawlessly on my Sprint PPC-6700. The only minor cosmetic problem I have is when I slide open the keyboard (which switches it to landscape mode), the opposite effect happens on screen - it switches to, uh, portrait-landscape mode with half the landscape image cut off the side. But that's a tiny detail I don't care about, because I have no reason to slide open the keyboard ;)

To have a piece of software WORK WELL, AND be free, on the PPC, is definitely something worth thanking. More developers for PPC should take after that example. I'm afraid too many developers think they can make a living off developing PPC software, so they charge an arm and a leg to make us their guinea pigs... when they don't realize that PPC is actually a rather small market. Make free software as a side job and put out a tip jar (donations)! ;)

So I just want to thank the DivX mobile team for being one of the good guys, AND making such a great piece of software. THANKS!

Sometimes the best things in life come for free. This is one of those times. The DivX player really made me think that it's not wort buying a famous brand player just for its name.

Slide out keyboards

The slide out problem on PPC phones is a known issue that seems to affect all sliders. The simple solution, as you discovered, is to avoid using the keyboard while watching DivX Mobile Player.
