Codec problem

Codec problem

Hi there, i recently downloaded the Divx Player 0.89 for UIQ 3.0 devices, i'm using a Sony Ericsson W950i which supports UIQ 3.0, i installed the .sis file and got it running on my phone, i put a video file in .avi format in my phone and the player was able to detect the file but when i try to load it it shows this error message:

error!
no codec for video format: "MP42"

I then tried another file and this time it works, but after playing for about 5 secs it stops, i tried to move the seekbar around but it doesn't play, i reload the video and tried again and it stops at 5 secs again, the video file is a 170mb file.

Could someone tell me wat problem i'm facing? I could convert them to .mp4 or 3gp or use another player i have but since i love DIVX and most of my movies are in .avi files, it saves me time converting them and then transferring to the phone.

I would really like to know the answer for the first video problem i have, is there a codec i can install? Cuz most of my files probably have codec.

And lastly, could someone tell me is there a program that can unlock your phone so that you can accept unsigned certificates? My W950i doesn't allow me to install certain files, take Divx Player 0.88 for example, i got it from this other forum and it's for UIQ 3.0 devices but it shows the certificate error, same with some of my other files. I read this other topic that says u have to go to application manager and accept "ALL" or something but i don't have that in my W950i...

then this aint for me

well then, after reading all that crap, those points weren't persuasive at all, pretty damn weak if u ask me.

First off, i download videos from Youtube and other sites, so i don't download from Divx 6 Stage or watever crap it's called therefore .3gp or even .mp4 is the best format for my W950i fone, the qualities are great and even better than the videos played using Divx Player, i've done research and most ppl said that playing videos on Core Player, Smart Movie & Divx Player aren't as smooth and clear as properly converted videos such as .3gp or .mp4.

Plus, .3gp or .mp4 files are smaller so i can fit more on my fone, which is an important thing as size matters and depends on how many videos u can fit, i can fit at least 3 videos in .3gp format rather than fitting only one huge .avi file that has to be played on Divx Player which doesn't give a smooth and clear quality.

I don't care about whether fones support Divx more or watever u said in ur whole lot of crap, i do know that most good fones support .3gp files so don't give me stupid examples that "IF U ONLY HAVE A PDA" crap, those aren't fones then, those are stupid fukn pdas, plus i have a smartphone or UIQ phone (W950i) which supports more formats than the stupid fukn Divx, so overall, i'll end this by saying that Divx Player sucks and people should just stick with their .3gp formats.

this forum lacks

this forum lacks support.......sigh i'll go back to my Smart Movie

Not all AVI files are DivX files

Try converting your videos using DivX Converter to ensure that they are compatible with DivX Mobile Player. It's also recommended to scale your videos to 320 x 240 pixels and reduce the bit rate to about 300 kbps video and 128 kbps audio for the best performance. If you try to play higher bitrate files, you may encounter performance issues.

but isn't there a codec i

but isn't there a codec i can install? I tried searching in warez forums and other sites and i did find "xvid codec" for UIQ phones and a few other codecs like ".ogg" but the certificates expired or something and i can't install, i need a newer signed version, of course i can get it signed myself as i have the tuts and programs to do that but i'm lazy and it's quite complicated signing off things, i thought since this is the actual DIVX forum u guys might have the codec for UIQ phones.........

otherwise there is no point for me using DIVX Player for UIQ 3.0 phones, since i can simply convert my videos to .3gp or .mp4 or i can simply use Smart Movie or Core Player to watch them..........all my videos in .3gp format are great quality and are even better than the .avi videos, the only reason i'm still around here asking for help is cuz i don't want to waste time converting my videos, but now if i have to convert the .avi files to divx format then it's pointless.

Benefits of DivX

No, we don't have a MP42 codec for UIQ phones and DivX Mobile Player does not allow for installing additional codecs. For now and the foreseeable future, DMP will probably only play DivX files. ;-)

3GP is reasonable option and is supported on many phones, but it is not as broadly supported as DivX. For example, you can play DivX files on PDAs going back more than 5 years. There are also DivX players and conversion tools available for OS X, Windows and Linux. In addition to phones, there are a wide variety of DivX certified consumer electronics such as DVD players and digital cameras.

That's all well and good, but let's consider practical use cases. Suppose the only devices you have are a mobile phone and an HD DV camcorder. You have to re-size and convert your movies anyway, so why not use 3GP? Well even in this case, consider that you might post those videos on a web page some day. The DivX web browser plug-in enables you to use reuse that mobile-sized video on a web site rather than encoding a 3GP version for your phone and then encoding a Flash version for your web site.

Another common use case is downloading DivX videos from sites like Stage 6 and taking them to your phone. In this case, you can avoid transcoding entirely by switching to a DivX Certified mobile phone like the Samsung F500 or the LG Viewty. Those devices feature hardware acceleration for DivX decoding which means you can play most of the files on Stage 6 without having to resize the video at all.

Example of the DivX ecosystem

I'm going to stray from "mobile" for a moment and talk about the broader DivX ecosystem. While there are many options available encoding video files, one advantage of DivX is the broad support. For example, I'll tell you about some DivX certified products and usages.

I shoot simple family videos using a Pentax A20 digital camera. I can pull the memory card from my camera, plug it into my Philips DVP 5960 DVD player and watch the video immediately on my high definition TV. Move that same memory card to my Samsung F500 phone and it still plays fine. I copy the videos to my Mac and edit it down to my favorite scenes with MPEG StreamClip. I post the videos to a family web site. My Dad can visit the site, watch some videos on his Windows PC and download his favorites. He can then burn the DivX files to a CD ROM and play them on his Toshiba 23HLV87 television.

All of this happens without transcoding the video so there is never a loss in quality or wasted time. Even editing doesn't require re-encoding if all you are doing is simple cut and splice. In contrast, consider any other option such as Windows Media Video, Apple Quicktime MP4, 3GP, DV or even MPEG2 TS. I think you'll find all the alternatives fall short someplace. For example, consider Quicktime, iPhone, Apple TV, iMac and a
MP4 digital camera. You can't move videos from the camera to the phone without first passing through a computer. Likewise with Apple TV and that's not to mention that your hardware choices are very limited.
