Remote Control hints

If you just tossed the Remote Quick Reference guide aside, at least learn these quick tips to get around Connected efficiently.

Pressing the menu button will give you a context sensitive menu.

While navigating alphabetically arranged lists, pressing the number keys repeatedly will jump to files starting with the letters on the number key, such as pressing 3 twice will jump to the first file starting with the letter E.

While Playing Videos:

The arrow buttons double as FF (right) and REW (left). Each press will increase the speed up to 300X. Press Enter to go back to normal play.

The up arrow skips forward 30 seconds, the down arrow skips back 10 seconds.

Press the number keys to skip to a percent of the video. 5 = 50%, 9 =90%, 0 goes to the beginning, etc. The points are frame accurate and consistent every time.

FF and REW do not yet work during transcoding, the the others will.

During Photo display or slide shows:

Press the arrow buttons and see what happens. also try the Menu button. When viewing an individual photo, press the numbers 1 - 9 to zoom into a specific section, 0 to zoom back out. Pg Up and Pg Dn will zoom in and out from the center (requires 1.1 or later release).

Remote doesn't respond

My DSM330 doesn't respond to the remote *at all* since I moved it to the bedroom.
In the living room (where it was) it was about 30cm under my 37" LCD. In the bedroom I tried putting it under, next to and behind the 32" LCD tv there, but no success at all. Not even when I'm extremely close to the DSM.
New batteries won't work, I only use it at nighttime, so no sun or something and the light is switched off.
I must say this LCD emits a lot more light to the side than my tv in the living room.

Other devices (HDD recorder/DVD Player) that are there as well respond fine to their remotes.

What can I try?

Slow Remote Control Response

A small number of users have reported that the device takes a very long time (sometimes over 5 seconds or more) to respond to a remote button press.
There are three known causes for this problem. Each cause is very different and it is possible to isolate the reason for two of them.
1. The PC server or network may be causing the delay. To determine if this is the cause, just press the setup button on the remote and see how the device setup menus perform. If the response if fast, the device and remote may be OK, but it still may be caused by #2 below. If #2 is not the cause, the problem lies either with the PC or the network connection. Updating the video driver can help. Also, trying a wired connection to see the issue improves can help determine if the wireless link is not good.
2. The TV may be interfering with the remote. This may not happen while in the setup screens since the they are 4:3 and mostly dark, but might occur after the device connects to the server a displays the full screen image. This has been seen on a few large Plasma and LCD TV’s when used in small rooms. There is IR interference from the TV that can affect a number of different IR based devices. The way to determine if this is the cause is to place the IR remote very close to middle of the front of the device and shield the path from the remote to the device with your hand. If the remote responds well under these conditions, but not normally, then the TV is causing interference. Moving the device slightly behind and the side of the TV can help solve this problem.
3. If the problem is not caused by the PC, Network or TV interference, then you should contact DivX support. We have seen a rare issue that is not caused by the above two causes, but we need more information from users can re-create the problem. In many cases it goes away for an unknown reason.
4. DivX Connected user (hhh) has reported that low energy light bulbs had caused a problem with his devices remote..

Thanks

Moving the device to the side of the TV did not work, but moving it slightly behind it did make the Remote Control work a lot better (still goes crazy sometimes, but works most of the time). Thanks.

If I we're to use a universal remote, would it fix this issue all together?

alternative fix

I solved this issue with an old coin.
I explained this here : http://connunity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=174

Good luck !

#2

Just bought a new 42inch Plasma Vizio TV and immediately my remote control started acting up. I confirmed it is the issue described in #2 (works great right up in front of the device with my hand shielding it). I tried moving the device to the side of the tv, and up higher than it as well but nothing makes it better. Is there something else I can do? Maybe a universal remote or something? I'm going to try a dark theme (slightlyoffbeat's idea) and see if it works.

Try moving the device slightly behind the TV.

Well I think I can give you

Well I think I can give you another problem...

It seems to me that not the remote control but the reciever in the device is highly sunlight sensitive. I had a week of and during the day I had a lot of problems getting my remote to work, unless it was directly touching the reciever. Could be the remote you might say! But in this case I do not use the original remote but my Logitech 512 (orso like that).
It gets really frustrating cause at first it wont react....but after a couple of seconds it doesn't seem to want to stop inputting the command I had the delay over! So starts skiping folder or just keeps scrolling down, untill I give another command.

When I close my curtains the problem seem to magically disappear. During the night the delay only occurs when I am too anxious to get to my movie folder and start hitting the OK button right away. In time that delay vanishes and the dsm works fine.

I hope this will help you improve the divx connected device ;)

Sometimes, switching to a

Sometimes, switching to a darker theme may help. I have a plasma at home and was having a hard time with it, but a darker theme has made it smooth as can be. Maybe its all in my head. :P
