I was getting 80-100% processor load on both cores of my dual core intel e6400 at 3ghz. I replaced the processor with a quad core cpu. I now only get 50-60s cpu core load this is in taskmanger performance.
It appears that the codec doesn't handle multi-threaded tasks well over 2 cpu cores. I expirience the same results in Dr DivX and even worse in the divX conversion tool. I use auto-gk mostly now as it gives the best utilization of the processor, and lower encoding times.

My system consists of asus P5W -DH M/B, Intel Quad core Processor, 2gb ram, 320gb WD sata 2 HD. OS Win XP PRo SP2 with latest updates.

I am now going to try testing with 3gb ram. A side note I already tried reading from one hd and encoding to another and only saw a few frame per second increase so not much bottle neck there. I have ran the cpu at same clock speed on both processors testing with auto-gk and using the log files to compare. So far quad core is very disappointing as I am not getting the full use of the system power.

Any one else seeing this issue as me?

FPS

Any change in FPS?

Yes I did gain a few FPS

Yes I did gain a few FPS but, not on the order I expected. I felt that I should see at least 30-40% gain however so far it is more like 5-10%. I was running the processors at the same speed 3ghz. I am now running the quad at 2.8 ghz as I did run into some stability issues. At 2.8 ghz my Fps is virtually the same as the e6400 at 3ghz.

I was hoping some one else could relate to this, and give me some tips on getting more FPS with the codec. I realize using a lower quality encoder setting would help, but I want Max quality.

Ditto!

I just upgraded to the intel c2q 6700 hoping to get better encoding times out of my HD content, from an athlon 64x2 4600 (720p encoding at 2880Kbps insane quality averaged 8fps) With the Q6700, it averages around 12fps+, but the CPU rarely gets over 55% load, and the stability for some reason seems rocky! I can't even watch a DivX file in the background while it is being encoded without the outputted file becoming corrupted (example, missing up to 20 minutes of footage!) On the old 64x2 build, I could encode the file, download files on the internet and watch my DivX movies without problems.
I even tried overclocking from 2.66Ghz to 3Ghz to see if I could speed up the encoding, but got only a few extra fps out of it, not to mention stability issues. I use Virtualdub and Dr.DivX 2.0.1b7 as my main apps running on XP MCE 2005.
I was hoping that the Q6700 would push out 720p content in real time at insane quality while still being able to do other tasks on the side with ease. the fact that the codec isn't even using close to 100% cpu should at least allow for easy multitasking without hindering the encoding process.
It should be noted however, that all 4 cores are being used, just not beyond 55%-60% range per core on my system.
