subtitles?

Hi!

Is there any plans to support *.srt (subtitles) files for divx files? It would be neat to switch them on.

another thing...

...while you are working on the subtitle subject, but it's really a low priority matter :-)

some tags are supposed to be standard in srt files, like < i >...< /i > to get italic formatting. I noticed that the DSM-330 displays the raw tags, it would be nice if these were properly formated

Hi, I had time to do a few

Hi, I had time to do a few tests and I encountered myself these bugs with (external) .srt:
1) Lines longer than a certain amount are skipped: automatic wrapping would be definitely welcome.
Lines like the following aren’t shown:
The only mystery here is how he made it to be 38.
The guy's a walking pharmacy. Could be anything.
Luisa Maria can't decide if she's gonna keep the quadruplets.

2) Any lines containing a character that doesn’t belong to ascii minimal subset (0-127) (any accented character like à è è ì ò ù) is _completely_ skipped.
For example in a sub file I got, a closing single quotation mark ` =Ascii[0x92] is being used as apostrophe instead of the correct ' =Ascii[0x27]) which results in the skipping of the whole line.
I think even a simple fix like displaying a dummy char every time a char not accepted is encountered would be preferable to loosing the entire line.
Thank you and keep up the good work!

Hey MaXTSM- Is it possible

Hey MaXTSM-

Is it possible to email that sub file to:

connectedfeedback (at) divx (dot) com

That way, we can take a look at it to try and reproduce the problem.

Thanks!

You mux the .srt files into the container using DMG

SRT files are supported

Use the Edit Meta data button on the PC server Video Settings tab to asociate an SRT file with a video.

SRT files are supported, but...

It seems it's not even necessary to associate the SRT in metadata when it has the same name as the video. Autodetection of subtitles works fine !

However i noticed a problem in subtitles support, some lines are not displayed and some other are... I think it is related to a maximum number of chars in srt lines, is it possible to think about a fix for that ?

If you can describe it in way that we can duplicate...

If you can describe it in way that we can duplicate the problem, or if you can send the SRT file and let me know at what time the problem happens, we can certainly look at fixing it.

Weird

I have a folder with video files and .srt with the same name and connected picks them up without them being in the metadata. The button on the remote turns them on and off just fine.

Maybe it is the naming convention of .srt and related .avi in my case?

need to make more test to

need to make more test to give you a precise diagnostic, but will sure let you know ! thank you

ok got it !

I found what is the cause of the problem : subtitle lines containing some special chars like é, à, è, ... (french subtitles...) are not displayed. If i change a "é" to "e" now i can see the line.

Is it possible include these chars support in next updates ? thanks !

We are not able to reproduce

We are not able to reproduce the problem with special characters with the 1.1 server. There may be two reasons why someone would have problems with special characters (with ASCII code > 127).

The file may not be formated and saved as UTF-8. If you can tell if that is the case, send us the file and we can look at it.

The PC may not have the international true type fonts installed on it. Usually a PC with MS Office would have these, but there are other ways to install them.

We will continue to look into this and see if we can resolve it in case it is caused by some other issue.

Have you tried changing the

Have you tried changing the character set encoding of the .srt file? UTF-8, maybe :-?

well i don't think the

well i don't think the problem comes from the srt file itself, as all is displayed correctly with any player on the PC ! i think it's rather a matter of char enconding support on the divx connected software :-)

do you still need me to email a srt file ? you can easilly reproduce the problem on any srt file, just insert é, à or è in any srt line to get it skipped by the dsm-330...

This will be looked at

I have entered this as bug. We should be able to recreate the problem and fix it.

Hello, I am testing DivX

Hello,

I am testing DivX connected using the free server and client software before purchasing a proper box.

I also experience the problem described above with all French subtitles (most lines just does not display, the ones with accented characters apparently, no difference if the srt file is registered in the metadata or not).

Any news about a fix?

Needless to say I am not going to purchase DivX Connected hardware until this is fixed...

Thanks for any fresh news about this.

François

There is a stick post at the top of the list for subtitles

In it is a solution for the accented character issues.

Thanks and sorry for not

Thanks and sorry for not having read the sticky post up to the end.

Saving the srt as UTF8 solved the problem. Pitty DivX connected is the only media player forcing me to do this while all other players accept srt as they are fine.

I still look forward to see some improvements on the quality of the fonts (much aliased currently) but this is another issue.

Thanks

François
