Hi guys,

I'm using the Nokia E90 for about a year now and I've been waiting for some time for a descent videoplayer besides the internal Realplayer.

Smartmovie & Coreplayer? Good god, no!

I always have the Divx Mobile Player installed and have been converting movies many times but I just can't get good quality movies with 1000kbits bitrate to work properly. Funny though, the Realplayer uses hardware acceleration and can easely playback Mp4 files (with MPEG4 codec material) with a bitrate of over 2000kb! Smoothly.

MY question is WHY isn't hardware acc. implemented in Divx Mobile?
Many phones have it, so why not use it? The chipset isn't just used for games, you know...

Other then that, still a nice player :).

Greets!

I don't know what hardware

I don't know what hardware acceleration means, but in order to have a good application to see a movie with you should first download it. I am always afraid I'll get viruses on my phone, that's why I considered getting myself an antivirus and then all the other programs I would need.

HW Acceleration

Good question. We'd certainly like to take advantage of HW MPEG4 decoders but it is difficult to account for all the HW variations in a generic player like DMP.

Most DivX Certified phones do use HW decoders. They play larger files and provide better battery life than DMP. We recommend everyone buy DivX Certified phones or at least request DivX Certified phones from their favorite phone OEM and carrier.

Well, thanks for answering

Well, thanks for answering anyway :).
Doesn't sound like you're planning a larger approach on HW accelerated phones any time soon. I understand that it takes time and a lot of work to collect that information and implement it to the software.
But I'm not sure if the Nokia N and E series are all that different from addressing the FPU chip, to do the desired task.
I'm not programmer, just making a few assumptions...

I'm curious though about the Divx phones. Wonder what Ebay can show me there?
