AC3 audio in AVI container cause audio sync issues.Have you seen this?
Hi...
R3 seems to work great for me, with it alone I get smooth playback of mkv on my pc and xbox 360. And of course for the sound I added ACMfilter included in AC3Filter 1.63b. This results in smooth playback with audio. Now the only issue and complain is that for some reason when playing back xvid's or divx's with an AC3 audio stream, I now have major audio issues only with AVIs not MKVs. If I uninstall ACMFilter, audio issues disappear, but then I have no audio in MKVs. Any suggestions? Has anyone else encountered this problem.
More info:

Audio Stream= AC-3
Has anyone else seen this?
Hey guys
Having the same issue here as described in the first few posts.
Have an avi (xvid) with AC3 sound which with AC3Filter 1.63b and Tech Preview R3 installed (and only these installed on fresh x64 Win7 RTM Ultimate) was way out of sync (3secs or so) and skipping forward would spike the cpu and cause even more sync issues - all in 32bit WMP12.
Uninstalled AC3Filter, WMP12 x32 then played the file with no problems + audio in sync, forward/backwards skip works fine. However, as previously mentioned, then mkv's have no sound.
It is a very annoying problem - to begin with I thought the avi was problematic and was trying to fix audio delay in VirtualDub to no avail. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem.
Would be good to know if there is any news on this front.
Edit: Interestingly, the file plays fine if rendered in graphstudio and then played via the internal player. Maybe some issue with Windows Media Player 12 and AC3Filter/Tech Preview R3
I too am having the same issue.
W7 x64 MCE, DiVX 7 with MKV Tech Preview, AC3Filter 1.63b.
.mkv with ac3 audio plays and seeks fine. .avi files with divx video + ac3 audio sometimes will play and stay in sync (other times will start out of sync) until I skip or fast forward at which point I get a pause and then continue with a large audio sync delay. Interestingly, playing this on Arcsoft Total Media Theatre Platinum - skipping or seeking results in a few seconds of odd behaviour before the audio catches up with the video and falls back into sync. I'm not sure what that means but thought it might help.
Has there been any reproduction of this issue in development?
Luke
Hi I posted the thread on tgb above. Got exactly the same problem as described, and it also causes the avi to hang if I skip through it. At the moment I'm having to unistall/install ac3 full filter depending if I want to watch mkv, or xvid with ac3 audio.
i to have the same issue, and am going nuts over this. You install R3 and it works just as expected but then trying to play a video with different audio is a problem and ac3 filter is the solution. But then it messes up the divx and avi files that did not have any problems what so ever.
I think i know the issue. Ac3 filter is trancoding all audio that a divx/avi has mainly a52 audio from my avi collection. So ac3 need to be edited some how to just trancode mkv audio and leave every thing else the same.
NOTHING IS EASY IN THIS WORLD :(
I hope divx adds support for this in the future as without it i really see no point in even having MKV via divx.
We haven't really tested this too much, since the DivX spec is to have MP3 audio in .divx/.avi and AAC in .mkv. Generally, people have to use other filters to get support for other the other audio codecs. I'll pass along what you're describing and see if there's anything we can do.
Well I am glad you guys are looking into it...
I have the same problem. Pretty much the same setup to.
I have a slightly different issue with avi&ac3... i can't skip through the video... when i try to skip to a different spot in the movie it freezes...
There is a lot of MKV/codec talk buzz on the new Win7 part of TGB forum. We are all excited to find something that will play/stream any MKV under the sun. (even the ones not created by Divx)

Could you guys address this at all? Can we expect Divx to somehow make your final product support all flavors of MKV/Divx/Xvid & audio?
HP Pavilion Slimline, Win 7 x64 RTM, with two external ATI CableCard tuners. Slingbox Pro HD works great with a media center extender. (iPhone SlingPlayer too)
I think I've sussed my DOLBY D problem out.
Apart from the OUTPUT (to SPDIF) setting in ffdshow, I also had the DivX Tech Preview: MKV on Windows 7 software installed, which I took off.
Today, I re-installed the DivX Tech Preview: MKV on Windows 7 software, as I couldn't get my MKV media files to play in WMC7, but as soon as I did, I lost the AC3/DTS signal on my receiver !!
Removing the software got me AC3/DTS back !!
Anyone know why this is, or if I need anything else to play MKV files in WMC7 please ??
I use the Windows7DSFilterTweaker tool to set the preferred order in which the filters are selected on my PC, using COREAVC as the preferred H.264 codec for GPU use.

Has anyone been able to find a solution to this problem yet? When I install the latest versions of both DivX and AC3Filter, MKV files play fine but my AVI files with AC3 audio have serious problems (same as those discussed above).
I don't know what the guys at DivX were thinking. What is the point of having MKV video support without audio? This is nothing but a headache. I think I'll stick to VLC for now.
