divx webplayer cash
my web player keeps crashing and i have to reboot my whole system before i can use it again this has resulted in loss of information from my hard drive..
the problem is divx webplayer wants to auto update and for some reason it then crashes when i wanna see a divx movie on the internet, i have the latest version of divx so why it wants to update i got no idea, but after it crashes it asks me if i wanna close down some programs tht are stuck and the one program tht is always frozen/stuck and makes everythign crash is the auto update,
i never ever had any problem with old divx players so why now all of a sudden i got no idea i wanted to install a older version of divx because well this one is crap, anythign tht makes my system unstable lag or crash is crap!! but iam having a hard tiem findiong older versions of divx wich is a shame because they are supirior to this new version,i read all the nonsense written by the person above and i give kudos but it is pure bullshit that anyone has to go through so much trouble and tweaking to watch a simple movie, if a product needs so much tweaking then ladies and gentlemen you have a BAD product.
if it aint broken dont try to fix it, older versions f divx worked perfectly everytime why even change tht...
Solution
I think the reason of why the the plug-in keeps crashing is because of conflicting codecs.
All the long solutions sound real nice, but i think a simple solution would just be to either:
1. If you just want the divx plug-in to watch and upload videos on the web, uninstall the whole package and just install the divx web plug-in in the installer setup.
2. If you want the codec, uninstall your other codecs. K-lite packs and haali and what not. Codec's don't seems to get along well. Or you could try setting the divx as the default codec.
Just trying to help :)

I've already posted this
I've already posted this here http://labs.divx.com/node/15309 -- but here it is again if anyone's interested.....
Ok --- it took me 2 weeks of diligent research and hard work -- but here is the fix for the DivX Player Problem -- NOTE: I am NOT a programmer -- or computer Geek (Wish I Was) but I have extensive knowledge with them -- been on them since 1980 -- : here goes:
Getting DivX to Play without any problems..
(On Windows XP)
"This is a LONG and Tedious Process --- So make sure you set some time asside to do this --- it took me approx. 4 hrs to completely correct this problem --- Once I spent over 2 weeks trying to find out what the problem was --- I have completed this installation in several different ways -- the following is the best and fastest way I have found -- Any additons or Shortcuts would be greatly appreciated.
NOTE: If you do not care about what caused this problem then you can procede to Re-establishing Streaming Connections.
Root Cause Analysis: --
ROOT CAUSE:
The reason behind this drastic change is as follows --
1... virtual memory
This is a temporary storage used by a computer to run programs that need more memory than it has. For example, programs could have access to 4 gigabytes of virtual memory on a computer's hard drive, even if the computer has only 32 megabytes of RAM. The program data that does not currently fit in the computer's memory is saved into a paging file system.
In Task Manager -- Each process is allocated so much virtual memory. -- If you know how and which one of the processes to stop --[PLEASE BE very careful when stopping the processes] -- It takes a whole lot of research to research each process -- track the process for the group that it is in -- and to establish weather or not your system can operate without that process group -- Its NOT just stopping certain Processes.]-- then you can utilize your knowledge by stopping those processes unecesarry for proper operation of your system. --- Most do NOT know this and hence forth the following recommended changes.
[For more on Processes see ^RobzWerLD -- Programs -- ] -- My site is currently down at the moment for updates and construction -- I will have it back up soon -- been busy with this problem....
2... Codecs interfere with each other in other programs. also the incorrect file association for which player to play what program --
------------------Re-establishing Streaming Connections>------------------
------------------Deleting Files------------------
NOTE: Prior to doing the following -- make a back up of your files -- you will need to reinstall
some of these.------Create a restore point -- for system information.
Do a complete removal of * ALL *, and I do mean ALL Media Players --
What I mean by "Complete Removal" is go to Settings -- All Programs -- go to the programs file menu and click uninstall ---
THEN go to Start -- Control Pannel -- ADD/REMOVE programs -- IF the program is listed -- remove it --- if not then great -- continue.
THEN -- go to Start -- My Computer -- C:/Program Files/ -- and search through them for the file you want to get rid of --- DELETE the folder and ALL of its contents.....
Without advanced knowledge ie --- Register information --- this is as far as you need to go---
Concider this as a Clean Removal.
Real Player
DivX -- The ENTIRE Package -
VLC -- The ENTIRE Package -
Media Mov Player
and ANY others that you have loaded.
Make sure you have a back up of the programs you want to use for re installation later.
Do a complete removal of *ALL *, and I do mean ALL Codec Pkgs, Programs, etc..
DivX Codecs
AC3 Filter
FFDShow
Xvid
and ANY others you may have installed -- including ALL individual Codecs.
Codec packages are normally NEVER updated, just amended too, and all of the old obsolete codecs are still in the codec package you install -- henceforth -- unnecessary files and clutter.
------------------Re-Boot------------------
Reboot System.
Go to Start -- System -- [Under the Advanced tab -- under Performance click Settings]
On the Advanced tab under Virtual Memory click Change.
Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set. ---
Here we want to INCREASE the MAXIMUM page file setting -- I cannot give you an amount to put in here you need to know your systems requirements -- normally its 1.5 times the amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) -- you have -- I have increased mine to 2 times the amount of RAM....If you need to locate information about your system go to Start -- My Documents -- Click on Help ---- Type in System Information -- Click on Get Information about your Computer --Click on My computer Information General -- It will give you a report with the following -- Specifications -- Processor -- Operation System -- Memory (RAM) - General Computer Info --Local Disk --
NOTE: If you DECREASE -- or LOWER the initial or maximum page file settings, you will have to reboot. If you INCREASE -- or ADD -- this operation normally does not constitute a reboot.
DO NOT DELETE OR REMOVE THE PAGING FILE <--- Microsoft recommends Not to operate without a paging file system.
------------------Restoring Files------------------
Follow these procedures in ORDER for best results:--
1>... Install the newest version of Windows Media Player -- From here -- Download FREE
www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/players.aspx
2>... Install the newest VLC Player -- Even if you arn't going to use it -- this program has some of the most updated and current Codecs in one package available on the net today....Install from here: Download FREE
www.vlcmediaplayer.org
3>... Install the newest version of AC3 Flilters -- From here: Download FREE
www.ac3filter.net/
Insatall the above 3 programs ---- then:
------------------Re-Boot------------------
Reboot System.
------------------Restoring Files------------------
Once your system is rebooted --- Install DivX Player -- install the current updated version FREE from here:
www.DivX.com
NOTE: -- ensure you are installing the COMPLETE Package from DivX -- it should have the following programs installed:
Go to Start -- All Programs -- DivX -- :
1>... DivX Codec --- Divx Converter -- DivX Player -- DivX Web Player Plus -- DivX Plus Web Show Filters -- Helpful Links -- and a couple of other helpful programs from DivX --
2>... Run DivX and load one of your saved DivX files -- ensure your player is working properly --
HERE is where you will associate all of the movie files you want DivX to be your designated player for -- all you do is find your files --- .avi -.mov --.divx etc... right click on each DIFFERNT extension file -- NOT each file -- just ONE that has the EXTENSION you want DivX to be able to Play when you click on it--- go to Open With --- Click on DivX -- if DivX does not show in this pop up menu -- click on Browse -- go to C:/Program Files/DivX -- look in the folder for the DivX Player Icon and Click on it -- Or you can go through the process of file associations -- just click on help in my documents, type in File Association -- and it will walk you through the process....
3>... Go ONLINE -- go to your favorite movie links -- and pick a movie -- go to the Player site where you watch your movie -- and see if it streams properly for you -- NOTE: it will take longer for the view to connect -- just be patient -- click on play -- and it should play for you --- *It did for me and over 30 others off of my site ---
NOTE: --- you can still play all of these movies on Windows Media Player , VLC player -- or any other player -- This was specifically designed to assist all of us DivX fans in getting our Players to stream our movies ----
If you have any problems with this --- e-mail me -- ^Rob at rdstone069@gmail.com.

Re: Solution
Thanks for posting detailed information. I'll see what we can do about solving this for the next version of DivX Plus Web Player.
Thank you "somra" and "djsharperimage"
hey guys just wanna send out a big thank you for your help i had this problem for the past 2 years and i really struggled to find a solution but with your help i was able to fix the problem in 2 minutes.
THANK YOU somra and djsharperimage you guys freaking rule!!!
thanks
thanks this did the trick
for anyone else trying to do this
here is a more simplified tutorial;
just click on "start"
then "search" for "regedit"
open the program;
find the folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
double click on "ProxyEnable"
in "value data" type in 0
leave it on hexadecimal;
then click ok
YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!
YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!
Value was already 0
My value was already set to "0" --- I still cannot get it to connect and start the buffering process. -- I've used DivX for along time now, and all of a sudden about 2 weeks ago -- it wouldn't load a stream. -- i've been going through the back door and searching the source code and down loading the .avi, converting to .divx -- then playing -- but this is very time consuming.
Still looking for a fix.
Thanks
THANK YOU!!!!
ever since i had to reinstall windows i havent been able to make divx streaming work and i havent been able to find any helpful advice until now......thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!
soma and djsharperimage, you
soma and djsharperimage, you guys are absolutely brilliant!!!
Now my IE don't crash anymore with sites that have DivX Web embed!!!
Just one important note though. I am using Windows Vista and when I check those registry, I found that it was already set to 0. But the distinction here is that there's a "ProxyHttp1.1" with the value "1". When I set the "ProxyHttp1.1" to "0" and restart my PC, go into sites that contains DivX Web Player embed and voila! No more crash!
I could have swear that Microsoft do this to ward off other players to work properly with their browser! Yeah that's my conspiracy theory!
Please help IE9 crash on DIVX
Hi somnang,
I am using windows vista too and I have the same problem of internet explorer crash. I followed your steps, Opened run typed in regedit, clicked on HKEY_CURRENT_USER but the on the the other box of right it is only showing:
Name Type Data
Default .......REG_SZ..........(Value not set)
I couldnt find either ProxyEnable or the one you suggested "ProxyHttp1.1"
Please help what else I should do.
Thanks guys
somnang
"ProxyHttp1.1", what is it supposed to do? Changing that to 0 helped for divx web player? Can you give a link that was crashing in Vista, but isn't now since you turned off that registry key? Are all the videos playing better now, since you fixed that registry key? I'm very interested since I have Vista with it defaulted to 1, and the other key is zero, like you said. Thanks somnang for this Vista "distinction" info, but also please elaborate with a few links and a more detailed description.
Proof?
I honestly don't know exact number of this probable cause pertaining to this issue. All I know for a fact is that after a long time visitting web sites with DivX Web Player, IE will keep on crashing when and if it encounters a DivX Web Player plug-ins page. I never come across the solution to fix that problem. But it only crash on IE with DWP embedded. So when I came across this suggested solution, I try the next best thing.
This is more like a trial-and-error pertaining to my machine only. But I only post to show that it does solve the problem of IE crashing on my Vista. As suggested by the original poster, the "ProxyEnable" was already defaulted to his suggested setting on my system. I saw the other "proxy" that is related to and is located in the same registry location and it is the "ProxyHttp1.1". I change that and restart the computer and tested the DWP embedded site and IE no longer crash. So that's why I post the response.
I understand that this is a faulty/erroneous way to debug a problem but because it worked on my Vista, I might just as well let everyone know to see if they solve the same problem using the same method.
To be clear on this. This applies to my Vista that has the IE crashing upon opening a DWP embedded page. If you or anyone have the same problem and using the same solution, let me know. This way I can debunk this as theory or false solution. For the time being, the problem and solution works on my system. It is, nevertheless, a good enough reason to take into consideration as a mental note.
Belated thanks to all
I know this thread is old but just found it and this has resolved my browser stability issues when viewing embedded Divx. Thankyou all for the advice.
Using Vista, after 10-15min of streaming, Divx used to stick, stutter, crash or otherwise be a pita using either IE or Firefox. I changed the "ProxyHttp1.1" value to 0 as detailed for Vista above by Somnang (Legend!). Stability issues are no more. Respect to all!!
