SUB/IDX subtitle support?

Does the player currently has SUB/IDX subtitle support? If not, any plans to add it in future?

Thanks!

We support subtitles in DivX files and SRT files only

There may be conversion tools that will allow you to convert the files to SRT or mux them into a DivX video file.

Thats sad!

Well..conversion tools are available but cumbersome to use. Moreover, subtitle's screen positioning & fonts used are lost when SUB/IDX are converted to SRT.
I was strongly hoping for an out-of-box support for SUB/IDX (It already has been there for years in Divx supporting DVD players). This takes 'DivX Connected' off my wishlist for now! Thanks for the reply!

DivXMuxGUI

If you have an existing divx/xvid file you can use DivXMuxGUI and mux the .idx together with the file and give that a try, takes seconds to set up and minutes to run through. The result will be a DivX file with XSUBs.

Thanks for the tip!

So 'DivX Connected' works with DivX file with XSUBS?
If its really that easy to integrate IDX/SUBS with DivX for 'DivX Connected' then it sure solves my problem!

I really can't give it a try since I don't have the 'DivX Connected' box myself. I request the fellow forum users who own the box to give it a try and post their observations.
Things to look out for while testing -
1) Whether its easy to use DivXMuxGUI for IDX/SUB muxing
2) Whether the muxed IDX/SUB subtitles are played correctly through 'DivX Connected' and are in sync.
3) Whether multi-language IDX/SUB work properly.

Here is a secret (not for much longer I guess).

You do not need to the device to try it. You can get the the server software and PC client here:

http://labs.divx.com/files/DivXConnectedInstaller102-03.exe

http://labs.divx.com/files/DivXConnectedPluginSDK.exe

The plug-in SDK come with a PC based client that acts just like the device. You can run it on the same PC, or another PC on the same network. This version is kind a development tool and only works if you have a active network connection, but we will have a better version with better keyboard and PC remote support in a few weeks.

Here is the complete Key Mapping for using it, keep in mind that all the keys may not be all be used right now. Also you want to add the number keys to this list...

Thanks dsalmonsen for the links!

I downloaded the emulator, it was fun to have a firsthand experience of the device interface!
Unfortunately, my work schedule is crazy these days therefore I have not yet been able to test the Divx & subtitles. I will do it within a week and post results for everyone to see.

If someone is able give it a try before that, please post your results and observations here!

Sorry... not acceptable!

Muxing idx/sub subtitles with AVI file through tools like 'DivXMuxGUI' or 'AviSub' is not only inconvenient but also unreliable.

Now I am only looking forward to an out-of-the-box support for idx/sub subtitles in 'Divx Connected'.

Idx/sub subtitles support (with DivX) has been there in hardware DVD players like Philips DVP-5960 for years now. I really don't understand why its so difficult to implement it for 'DivX Connected'.

If its really not possible for 'DivX Connected', I might as well look for other alternatives. As per my information PH is soon going to add idx/sub support in its unit.
