streaming divx files to ps3 from pc

I am having some trouble streaming movies from my pc. I have burned them to a disc before and they play fine, but to save money on disc I would like to learn how to stream them straight from my pc to my ps3 using my wi-fi connection. My pc is set up as my server and my ps3 as a media adapter, however only a few titles I have in my library are displayed and they will not play. So I am confused. Is Divx capable of doing this? From what I have read so far it seems it can, but I must be doing something wrong, please help.
