DivX Author Crashes on new machine on XP and VISTA
Just bought a new machine (I7), Loaded the same software on it as the previous one (I have a check list).
And DIVx Author crashes.
I have tried it under vista and XP on the new machine.
I have tried just editting a divx file.
Under XP it won't even load the file for editting.
Under Vista it gets futher. I can edit it but it crashes during processing.
I have tried it with the latest DIV X Author. same results.
Any ideas before I throw DivX author out?
I'm trying to run Divx Author 1.5.2.180 on a Dell Studio, Win 7 (64 bit), with i7-720QM, 4GB memory.
My crash occurs during the output phase after a few seconds of analysis. I have tried compatibility modes (XP,SP3 and Vista, SP2) and I run the process as Administrator. But no luck getting it going.
Any suggestion?
I have encountered the same problem also. Are there any known issues with divx author and the i7 platform?
I got the same problem pls somebody help us :) Its really frustating
Evidently Divx Author can take advantage of multiple cores but it doesn't like the hyperthreading feature of the i7. If you disable it in your BIOS it should work fine (at least in my experience).
I tried your advice and what could I say...
Yes THAT was the Problem - THX a lot

I don't know if this will cure your problems as well, but I kept having total freeze-ups and corrupted output after I installed DivX Author on my new AMD 890GX/Phenom II x6 (1090T) with Windows 7 64bit.
I ended up downloading the TRIAL version of TMPGenc Authoring Works 4, which as you may know, DivX Author is a stripped-down version of an earlier version of this software from Pegasys.
Anyhow, my troubles were cured by copying a couple of DLL files from the TMPGenc Authoring Works program folder (Program Files(x86)\Pegasys Inc\TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 Trial Version) over to the DivX Author program folder (Program Files(x86)\DivX\DivX Author 1.5)
Here is the list which worked for me:
1. DVDAuthorDivXDMF.dll
2. MovieDivXCodecLib.dll
Make sure to save your original versions of these files by renaming them to "xxxBAK" or something before copying the new ones over.
This is probably gonna bring the Pegasys Legal team down on my wretched fanny but DivX should've updated DivX Author themselves to keep up with the new Windows OS releases, so I'm not sorry!
