Only some MKV files play on XBOX360
Ok,get this.
I was looking for a way to play MKV files and I believe this is it.
I have WIN7 RC 7100 and streaming to XBOX360. Both files play in my PC that has the DIVX 7 for Windows, this Preview and AC3 1.62 installed, but only this file PLAYS in the XBOX360

And this one does not I can only hear the sound but the screen is black. My TV is capable of 1080p so it should be an issue as games are played at that resolution.

Hey i had the same problems as well with some mkv files, after reading this i used handbrake to re-encode the files which did not work. I changed the reference frames to 5 and now the file plays perfectly on the 360. I did also have another file with the same problem so i re-encoded the file using handbrake but the sound was very jumpy so i used mkvmerge to take the re-encoded video and use the original audio and this worked perfectly. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem with about 10% of my mkv's, problem was:
Format profile :
ReFrames : too high
Easy fix for me was to use mkvtovob on these bad mkv's.

Thanks kevkrop, will definitely give it a go and report back...
I had a problem with some files working and some not. I haven't tried a ton of files but one of them worked after installing Haali Media Splitter. Worth a try if you haven't.
