With the new codec version, the Doctor is no longer able to convert files to DivX. Will the Doc be given a lesson on how to use his new tools? Perhaps even the ability to convert to DivX Plus and MKV support? (At the very least, the ability to use the 6.9 codec would be fantastic.)

Can hardly wait

I used Dr. DivX almost daily -- sometimes several times a day. Then I updated to DivX 7 last week and Dr. DivX is useless. I wouldn't have upgraded if I'd known, but now I've paid for the damn thing and using VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod is much more complex and time consuming.

Your posts, Centurian_D give me hope that there's going to be a rebirth. The screen shot is beautiful and very professional looking.

Missing The Audio Track Settings.(Update)

After installing the DivX 6.9.1 for the first time i found out that all Dr DivX settings were empty or blanked so i reinstalled the DivX 6.8.5 and retrieve the video settings selection.
Updated the AC3Filter and AC3File to finally retrieve the audio.
Thanks for your efforts.

PuzZleR, don't give away our secret yet ;)

We're quite a ways off from any finish (I blame college), but the main problem is that the DivX 7 CLI Beta 2 expires Jan 20, 2010.

Too soon to have a working Alpha or Beta unless I worked around the clock (with Finals right around the corner? I think not). If I had more time, then maybe. I'd like to see what the next encoder has to offer before I release anything.

Our small project team is working on a website that will certainly give more details. Right now, it's looking like Alpha at the earliest is Q1 2010 and Beta in early Q2 2010. Final release will be soon after that and we will have many interim Alpha and Beta releases between major version releases.

I hope this CONCEPT IMAGE will generate some buzz:

Be warned: The DivX 7 tab is NOT done due to the Jan 10, 2010 deadline. That is the only image I will release until I see fit. Any other images you see on there are of me or are old versions of the same project.

Enjoy!

Very nice

This looks great. It looks as if you are allowing separate elementary stream import, am I right? This would be extremely handy since it will not require another muxing if you have extra audio tracks or subtitles. Im not sure how much of a bother it would be (as you could always use avisynth scripts for this) but adding a tab that contains a GUI allow for plugins to be used, such as avisynth or Virtual Dub plugins (examples being Smart Smoother High Quality, 3Dconvolution, and many other popular plugins to improve ones encoding experience) allowing people to take advantage of these powerful tools without having to know how to setup them up in a command line or script, or allowing veterans of these tools to have these plugins automatically applied with their custom profile settings(assuming that custom profiles make a return yes?) Personally, I can only use basic avisynth scripting myself, and having to learn how a plugin works through scripts is a daunting task for some, almost damned near impossible for others the way some tutorials are set up. Having a GUI with popup tool tips could help tip the learning curve a little more to the "easy" and take the guess work out. (Being Dyslexic doesn't help either)
Another suggestion is a preview encode pass (a quick render of say 5 seconds or so (user specified in options) to test encoding settings and judge output, save the time of having to change trim or frame count numbers in a script since every second that is wasted doing all those changes is another second of encoding time that could have been.
Its a shame that you want to drop the Dr DivX title, since for as long as Ive been encoding video, the Doc was always there to help out. I guess as long as the software performs its duty, no one should care about the name.
Im really looking forward to this, and hopefully the beta 3 or RC of DivX264 if they release it, PM me if you want someone to try out a build!

Update

Well, this is quite a ways off from being fully completed, and that picture is a concept image. My design is based on Frostie's design, but rearranges things and makes it more attainable.

I will have screenshots up before the end of the month at the latest. And yes, you can have whatever streams you like in the video file. I'd like to allow demuxing as well as muxing, but I'm focusing on core features that will allow me to expand in any direction I'd like.

The only Dr. DivX releases I liked were back in 1.0.x, but they were even buggier than Dr. DivX 2.0.0. A re-branding seemed like a better fit. Th

This program is codenamed "DivX M.D.", and I have plans for this basic release (v1.0.0) with future updates. I'm a full-time student so these updates don't have any release dates.

- The Vdub filters will most definitely not be in the first release, and it was something I thought about. I may add it in a later release. Or at least a tool that exports an AVIsynth script.

- The preview pass is something I did not think of and it sounds very possible for a future update.

DivX released instructions to allow DivX 7 capable streams to be encoded from the x264 CLI so that's what I'll use from now on since there has been no update 2 days after the Beta 2 expiration date (Jan 20, 2010).

I do have a plan which is progressing albeit slowly. I'll be working on it this weekend and try to have parts of it working by Monday.

You a few others know about this project (and have shown interest) so I'll be sure to let you all know when it's ready to be tested.

OMG

Oh my lord... I dig this app. It is one of the heavily used apps on my system. I hope this is release soon. I can't wait to get my hands on the new version of Dr DivX. I don't like to use any other encoder besides Dr DivX.

Like PuzZleR said, Dr DivX needs a major version update. Hope it's going to be version 3 or 4 :)

Good

It's going to a take a bit of work, but now that I have the instructions to encode using x264, I no longer have to rely on the DivX Beta CLI encoders (which expire for whatever dumb reason...).

This is a total rewrite from scratch. You can think of it as Dr. DivX 3.0 is you like, but I'm trying to move away from that name since Dr. DivX 2.0 was such a mess.

I will be posting screenshots within the week of a redesign (it will look similar, but the design constraints forced me to redo Frostie's work, but it is based on Frostie's original design. He should get loads of credit for making it so good looking).

There will be an Invitational Alpha that will be functional - encoding will work for both DivX 6 and DivX 7 (probably via x264).

A public Beta will follow, and I will try to incorporate feedback into the application as needed.

Details that are concrete (as in they WILL be in the program):
Video Settings:
- DivX 6, DivX 7, and Direct Copy will all be available
- Batch encoding
- Custom Profiles
- Save to .avi, .divx, or .mkv containers
- Crop, FPS

Audio Settings:
- PCM (.wav), MP3, AAC, and Direct Copy from video

Mess:
- Support for XP, Vista, and 7

Note: I have not tested multiple Audio sources or external audio sources, but the Beta will support them.

Future updates will add functionality and allow things like Muxing/Demuxing and joining video files.

Screenshots will be in the official announcement (hopefully within the month).

You can msg me to try and get more info or advanced news if you'd like.

Awaiting OSS interest.

As you may know the Dr is subject to whatever the OSS community wishes to do with him. And OSS, it seems, is heavily reliant on Forum discussion and feeback to accelate interest and spurn development.

Since the regular DivX Forums are down, don't expect any updates any time soon. However, I don't see why not soon after that.

As for DivX Plus and MKV, I would say this would warrant a third generation of the Dr - a complete makeover and an opportunity to give him the healing he's been deserving for several years now. I did catch wind that this is something being looked at.
