I purchased DivX 6 Pro several years ago. I am considering upgrading to to version seven. But, until then ......
For years I have been getting prompts to update my DivX software. The Pro license entitled me to the updates through version 6. Now that DivX is selling version 7, I continue to get prompts for updates. Naturally, now I am being asked to buy a new license. I don't have a problem with that, and am seriously considering doing that.
The question I have is, can I update the DivX player to version 7 (since that component is free) without affecting my ability to use the DivX 6.8 codec to continue to create DivX video files at the 6.8 codec level?

DivX 7 upgrade functionalities

You can install the DivX 7 for Windows bundle without affecting your ability to use the functions included in your DivX Pro 6 license. The Player is always free, so you can install only that component. Or you can install the whole DivX 7 bundle--you will just have limited functionality if you don't upgrade your license.

Basically, the new function in DivX 7 Converter for Windows is the "DivX Plus HD" encoding profile, which outputs to the new .mkv (h.264) format. If you install the DivX 7 Converter but do not purchase a DivX Pro 7 license, you will still be able to use the other encoding profiles, and use the DivX Pro Codec in other apps, because these are included in your DivX 6 license.

The DivX Plus HD profile in converter is great to have if you want to encode HD content. When you install the DivX 7 Converter, you will have 7 days to try this profile to see if you like it enough to upgrade your license to DivX Pro 7. Another benefit to installing the entire DivX 7 bundle is that the latest version of the Codec is now 64-bit compatible.

That's what I was hoping.

That's what I was hoping. The regular price for the Pro versions has always been reasonable. And the upgrade price even more so. Currently I have no devices that can make use of the new HD or 64-bit functionality, so I have been reluctant to make the move. More compelling for me is that support for version 6 has been dropped. Based on what you have have indicated,I think I will install the version 7 bundle for now and use with limited functionality until I make my final decision? Thanks for the info.
