Audio okay with ".divx" but disappears if renamed to ".AVI"
I'm running a brand-new Windows 7 64-bit machine with a brand-new DivX Pro installation does download a couple of days ago. If I create a file using home theater profile and regular MP3 audio using TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress I get a my_video.DivX file that plays just fine under Windows media player on Windows 7 64-bit. If I rename that file so that the extension is ".avi" and try to play it I get no audio. If I play the exact same renamed ".avi" file on my old Windows XP system it plays just fine with audio and video both.
I realize you guys want to protect your brand that I've always been able to use ".AVI" extensions on your files in the past. I don't know if this is a codec problem or a Windows media player problem or what it is. But it's going to be a hassle.
Is this a bug or a "feature"?

Follow-up to my previous post...
I tried uninstalling DivX 7 and reinstalling version 6. The problem remains the same. If I create a.DivX file it will play okay with either the DivX player or with Windows media player on Windows 7 64-bit. If I rename the file with a ".AVI" extension when I try to play it with Windows Media Player in Windows 7 64-bit I get no audio.
By the way the same file plays okay on a Windows XP machine using Windows media player.
Tech Preview
Did you opt in on installing the DivX Plus Tech Preview: MKV on Windows 7? Windows 7 prioritizes decoders differently than in previous versions of windows, and although Windows 7 includes vanilla MPEG-4 support, our Tech Preview extends support of DivX files so they are decoded properly with the latest media framework (Microsoft Media Foundation vs. DirectShow).
