I also want to the Labs/WebPlayer page updated simultaneously with standalone links for new Web Player versions. I don't want to go thru the full DivX bundle.

We will get those links up.

We will get those links up. You can choose to only install just the Web Player via the full bundle however.

final version

The final version for windows 2.0.0.254 did not fix anything that I can tell. It did not fix my issues. I wonder what was fixed. I still can't play 2S links. Maybe that's the ftp http thing, I don't know, since no one from divx answers me. So many links don't work now, for whatever reason, the benefit is not worth losing the playback of most divx videos! I'll still be using the newest version, cause the older one had bad compression.

Divx still needs acceleration. Make the videos buffer faster!

Divx still needs to make a way for me to easily cache streaming in a RAM DISK.

Give us 100% of videos working again. Please DivX!

How do you know what baud rate he has

Six Sided Video,

Why would you make what I feel is an obnoxious comment, if you don't know what type of Internet connection of computer he is using.

I personally am offended on that one, as someone with a fast PC and a very fast company, who handles my web sites. I have gotten that type of "It's not my job" stuff for years from Divx support and the Divx Labs people for years !! Heck I got a free Pro license, as I was one of the first people to use the Divx web player.

To me, it has had buffer/streaming issues and for years, since version 1.x.

I am going to give it a try again.

I have been having great results with Firefox 3.5x and using the license free Theora Ogg Video codec, and using the fantastic new "video" command with HTML 5. No additional software or codec is needed to be installed, as the Ogg Video codec it is loaded already in Firefox.

No buffer/streaming problems with anyother video format that allows for higher definition video, except for the Divx Video Player, since version 1.x.

The buffer/streaming issues also plagued those who would watch Divx Videos and have Corporate level type of bandwidth. What used to work great, might work for a little while, sometimes, then the buffer errors.

However, I am hopeful that version 2 has it together with understanding how to appropriately do streaming.

What ARE the recommended bandwidth specifics and/or graphics card specifications for the newly released Divx Web Player 2.0 ??

Thanks,

Jon

Faster ISP?

I have over 20mbs down and 2MBS upload on a quad core PC. That's the fastest I can get where I live. Even when it buffers okay, it will still get a hiccup now and then, full use of the GPU could smooth it out a lot and improve graphics.

It doesn't matter how fast your web is, If I had 100MBS or faster, I'd still want them to work on improving the speed. Use Bywifi for flash, but what can you do for optimizing DivX? Nothin' much, that's what.

Watch lower quality videos, you say? Are you being serious, what decade are you in? It's all about 720p or 1080p. At least it is for flash. Youtube is getting 1080p now, CBS.com already has it.

For now, a BRRIP avi movie is the best you'll likely find for the DivX web player, or HDTV rips at about 175 mb. Soon it will be so great, because obviously we'll have a plethora of streaming 720p MKV tv and films on many DivX 2.0 websites. Some 1080p blu-ray MKV rips will pop up here and there as well, I'm sure. When that time comes, I want my divx web player running top notch.

Maybe I want to watch the 500 MB MKV full 720p HD version of How I Met Your Mother, 5 minutes after it airs, since I don't like commercials. Downloading the new South Park MKV may not be legal. Watching the the new south park MKV Streaming is legal, and will be fun too. If they stream it, somebody will watch it.

With Bywifi in my RAM DISK do you know how good my HD youtube (flash) videos stream? Much better than yours, now seriously don't make stupid comments, only helpful ones.

10.1 beta flash comes out soon and that will allow for full GPU acceleration. All end users will have better streaming, that hogs less CPU and works great, on all platforms. Here's to DivX getting there too.

Firefox 3.6 beta 3 came out today and do you have cache in RAM Disk? Mwah hah hah!

Don't be concerned

Hey philochs,

First, I have been a fan of late, great, courageous songwriter Phil Ochs for decades. Did you give yourself philochs as your login because of Phil?

But don't worry about the garbage about having to watch crappy videos. It's just ignorance. just ignore that post !!

Can you watch other web based videos that are encoded in video formats other than the Divx Web Player ??

If you can, then the issue is with the Divx Web Player.

Like I posted, it worked great with version 1.x, then, as told directly from Divx Support, it stopped being supported and their was no information when it will work.

I am hoping that the newly released Divx Web Player 2.0 will be supported, debugged and enhanced as time goes by.

Just be careful if Divx support or others start trying to blame you and your Internet bandwidth, that has been going on for years.

I haven't ever tried Bywifi, maybe I'll have to check it out.

As for the performance of accelerated Flash, maybe you should try to use it. It is really picky on whether it will work with certain video cards and drivers. It took me a bit to get it working on my machine that has a supported card and driver and yes it is faster than Flash 10.0 was, but it still isn't as "fast" as regular DXVA hardware accelerated playback (MPC-HC or WMP).

For an example it dropped my CPU usage by about 50% on YouTube 720p clips, but those same clips (when remuxed as MKV) were already using 50% less CPU using DivX Plus Web Player to begin with. And DPWP wasn't dropping any frames, unlike Flash 10.1.

MKV?

Hey peskypescado, were you referring to an MPEG MKV file, or a converted to DivX Plus H.264 MKV? Is it both, or only DivX Plus?

Flash 10.1

Flash 10.1 is still a beta, it needs a lot of work. It actually crashes firefox in youtube. Just go to certain videos, and 10.1 beta crashes. I have to keep 10.0 till they fix 10.1 up a bit.

Carpenters "I Need To Be In Love" New Extended Mix 5:45 HD Stereo

will crash firefox with 10.1 so will other videos.

It shouldn't be so complicated

For testing purposes, and reality purposes, it shouldn't be so complicated, as to need to having the Divx Video dependent on Flash.

It should be working without any complex type of work on the developers end.

Divx Webplayer 2.0 final is not supposed to be reliant on nothing else but the Divx Web Player 2.0.

Which version of Firefox are you using, just for the heck of it ?
If you are interested, you might try encoding your video to Ogg Theora Video and using the simple HTML 5 commands, with the latest Firefox 3.5x on the video you are having issues with.
Using Video and Audio in Firefox
The Theora Cookbook online Manual
Up to you, but you can try to throw that video on and use the HTML 5 video command, so see if your video plays. On the Cookbook, there is a wealth of information, as well as loads of videos you can try to execute, that come from various web based video sited.
If nothing else, it can show if you can execute streaming video, with the current status of your bandwidth, and PC.
This is pretty new stuff and it is constantly improving.

For me though, I have spend 10s of hours with the Divx Web Player through the past several years and if it doesn't work, using the standard code, and with the latest Divx software installed, I will post a message about it and hope that the Divx developers can use the information. But, I personally, am not going to spend hours trying to figure out work arounds for the Divx Web Player.
In the long run, I don't think it helps Divx anyway.
I really want the Divx Web Player to be a strong, consistent, stable product that is easy to implement from the developers side, and especially from the viewers/customers end. To hope that it will work as defined.

Thanks,

Jon
