Divx 7 not working for me, what am I doing wrong?
I'll admit up front I'm not real computer savvy. I had divx 5.1.1, and it was working pretty well, but two days ago I updated it to I think 7.2. Every time I try to download something now, it will start to connect, and then I get a message saying 'the file you are trying to play has failed to finish downloading and can no longer play'
I'm on a mac running osx 10.5.8 with intel core 2 duo
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks a bunch

yes im having the same problem im very sad about this new update
i been using this script http://megaallday.com/mu to play videos from megaupload in my browser and it was working fine until i update my divx.
after i updated the divx every video i tried to play was giving me a "the file you are trying to play has failed to finish downloading and can no longer play"
so i messed around with the bookmarklet on the megaallday.com/mu page and very weirdly after making some changes that removed 1 long and full of various chars variable from the url of the page on which the divx player was loaded, it stopped giving me the error but now it works but says "connecting" for a very long time before it starts playing
also before i updated the player i had that cool script that made multiple attempts at connecting to the file and also showed the info about the size and speed of the download, but this has stopped working with the new update...
i really hope that whoever builds that web player with hear us and find a way to fix that new connection problem
Could provide some more
Could provide some more details on what changes you made to the greasemonkey script to make it work?
As for the second script, I just checked and it does look like the API for getting the download status isn't working right. I'll file a bug against that. Thanks for catching it!
divx problemz
im not using greasemonkey, my code is just a javasript bookmarklet, it finds the download link on the mu page and opens an iframe in the middle of the page with this url:
iframe_url = 'http://megaallday.com/muplayer?w=' + w + '&h=' + h + '&url=' + downloadlink + '&extrapageinfo=' + extrapageinfo;
now the var extrapageinfo was containing a lot of info it was long and had many weird chars in it. for some reason i just removed the extra page info for now changing my iframe url to this:
iframe_url = 'http://megaallday.com/muplayer?w=' + w + '&h=' + h + '&url=' + downloadlink;
and that made the mu videos start playing again instead of giving me that error cannot play something something.. its weird cos in both cases the download url was correctly passed in the code of the player, i dont understand why the url of the page that the player is on has anything to do with if the file plays or not...
but even though it plays MU videos now it takes a while to connect when before it was instant and yea, the download meter doesnt work anymore...
also i was using the divx player to play videos from 2shared.com
sadly with 2shared.com its worst, the videos wont seem to play at all, it just gets stuck on "connecting" i waited a very long time but it never goes through and with no download meter you dont know if anything is happenening at all..

oh and by the way heres an example:
example megavideo avi online file:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PUR2XYQL
(Columbo 1x01, Murder by the Book)
on the megaupload page, type in the captcha, wait through the 45 seconds countdown and then run this bookmarklet:
javascript:(function(){var%20s=document.createElement("script");s.setAttribute("type","text/javascript");s.setAttribute("src","http://megaallday.com/mustream.js?v=1.01");document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(s);})()
to play the vid in your browser
or just go there:
http://megaallday.com/mu?link=http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PUR2XYQL
and follow the instructions (same thing)
heres an example with 2shared:
2shared file: http://www.2shared.com/download/8367612/7f9ce228/
(Columbo Pilot 1, Prescription: Murder)
2shared file in divx player: http://videolister.org/divx?movie=http://www.2shared.com/download/8367612/7f9ce228/
so if you have the old divx web player, all these files play fantastic. but if you have the new divx web player 2.0, for me the megaupload still works but takes a while to connect. the 2shared though, just takes too long to connect i cant wait long enough to say if it works or not.
also theres no more download indicator, with the old player and the associated javascript you saw every byte coming in so you knew something happened..
Re: divx problemz
dont understand why the url of the page that the player is on has anything to do with if the file plays or not...
Many sites will check the referrer to prevent leeching, and will not serve the download if the referrer is not as expected.
baboul, there's a trick to
baboul, there's a trick to by-pass the 45 seconds wait time on MegaUpload. But I think it's probably not legal to discuss that on this board. ;-) *wink*wink*
Fixed!
Okay, here is a link to the ninjavideo forum page that step by very basic step shows you how to go through, get rid of all the tiny little hidden divx files, where to go to reload the old version, and further steps if that does not work. The first batch of steps worked for me, so I can't attest to the follow up attempts. Finally! Thank you guys so much for your help, I think I needed the old divx web player that someone had mentioned up there, and that just trying to redo the divx player wasn't gonna help me. Hope this helps some other people out there with the same prob.

Good luck!
also worked for me
going back to an older version also fixes all these issues for me
old versions:
PC: http://anolink.com/?link=http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QKNR5S4P
MAC: http://anolink.com/?link=http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OUL7E5LE
I also get this message
I also get this message coming up too.
"The File you are trying to play has failed to finish downloading and can no longer play"
Any ideas what to do?
cheers

Worked for me and and i had the same problem as the above
thanks @ All :D
how did you fix it?
I am getting really bothered by this update too. Nothing works anymore, the videos (on all websites that use the DIVX webplayer that is) keep trying to connect forever, when I then try to close the Firefox tab the browser crashes. What is wrong with the update?
Please help
Fyi: Im using Mac OS 10.5 with 4GB RAM
Just to be clear.
Like ninjavideo we stream our videos from megaupload, thus the connection not working and new player "bugs" may not be divx problem but the megaupload connection with divx. we have same issues here. I could be wrong. And the new player does work for some.

Same here but big time!
Hi
I run a pretty large video site and a part of it is more or less devoted to divx videos. I just updated after being prompted by Firefox and now none of the videos stream properly. The ones that attempt to have cracking audio and no video. This is a bit nasty to say the least. The part of my site that is affected is here: http://bluesplayer.co.uk/daocvideos. Now what?
Bit miffed

Thanx A Bunch!!!
Thank you leviathon41 for posting the question..I, too, was having ninjavideo withdrawal-like symptoms due to the new DIVX software...I got the same message as you and was literally hitting my head against the wall thinking it was my computer.... I live in an urban area but I dont like watching TV at the scheduled times....Thank you dabbster and spaminator for such great advise....I am now able to view V and the Sons as well as continue with the Legend of the Seeker....You Guys ROCK!!!
Is there anyone who is not
Is there anyone who is not able to play back the videos on this page:
http://labs.divx.com/webplayer
and on this page:
http://labs.divx.com/node/14711
I visited the link and the video seems to have been removed.

I'm getting them from ninjavideo.net, and I'm playing movies back from the web player, not actually downloading them to my system. I saw a post from some one who was having a similar problem, and they were told to down load one of the legacy versions. I tried tossing out all the divx I had on my system and downloading the older version 6, but it kept telling me I still had a newer version on my system, and could not load the old one. I searched everywhere for anything containing divx, but I kept getting the same response. So I loaded the new version 7 again, but I'm having the same problem.
Thanks for any help Dan

Can you link to a specific
Can you link to a specific video that throwing up that error message?
Ninjavideo tends to link to a lot of copyrighted content, so videos are constantly being put up and taken down. Sometimes if you are getting an error message it is because the video you are trying to view has been taken down. I just want to make sure that isn't the issue before moving forward :)
[dan]
good links
http://www.ninjavideo.net/video/48388 , you have to open their helper beta applet at the top of the page first.
It's not a broken or content removed link. I've run into those before, this is happening for everything that has reliably played before, like newly added tv shows.
I tried
I tried your link and it didn't work for me either, but other shows from that site in the same format with their Beta helper still work. I think that video might have been taken down :-/
strange
that's weird. The links from newly uploaded shows are very reliable. Not being able to play anything, it's kind of hard for me to put up a link I know for sure should work.
All I know is that none of the links have been working, and I'm not getting the normal dead link notice of removed content.
Here's another one that should work. http://www.ninjavideo.net/video/48152 It's a link for a new episode of a current tv show, and these have worked here for me before.
That Worked
So that link worked for me. I waited for a while after inputting the CODE before pressing play... I wonder if that made a difference?
Dexter and Sons of Anarchy... probably 2 of my favorite shows!
Hey leviathon :) Where are
Hey leviathon :)
Where are you downloading your movies from? Are you trying to download the movies, or are you talking about playing movies back from the DivX Web Player?
[dan]
Hey Dan :) same problem
I just recently upgraded to the latest version on my run of the mill pc (vista home premium) It really doesn't matter which vid you try on ninjavideo.net or re1ease.net it always comes back with the very same problem leviathon described, this is killing me since i live and work in a backwater community with next to no other form of entertainment :(
Seriously this is the first thread I find where someone else mentions encountering this problem but it really doesn't seem to matter what I try it has no effect (i.e. uninstalling-re-installing, restarting, virus scanning) cpu is fine (quite recent actually) but this latest version seems to time out during initial download before it can start streaming.
i know what you mean
I live about 40 min from the closest town, so I'm in the same boat. Back in the soggy hills of Washington, there isn't too much to do.
And yeah, it seems like we are have the same issue. It goes to connect, but never makes it as far as buffering.
I found a work-around :)
open the divx folder on your mac, there use "uninstall web player" then "uninstall divx bundle" then delete whats left of the folder (make sure it doesn't stay around in your recycle bin.... don't know if macs have those, never strayed..) finish finding all shortcuts that might be still in your mac (i.e. on mine; deleting the divx folder in start menu).
Now finally you should be ready to re-install the Older version, which I found on; http://www.oldversion.com/download_DivX_6.8.4.html only thing is I don't know if this is the right download for mac, if not i'm sure google can help you find the right version for you.
JUST REMEMBER; SAY NO TO UPGRADES.... until they announce that it's been de-bugged... or sumthin... hopes this helps :)
Legacy versions of DivX S/W are available
If you need to roll back to an older version of the DivX software, you can download them for free from the DivX Support website here:
http://support.divx.com/faq/view/supportFAQen003/DivX-Legacy-Version
thank you so much
I'll try that uninstall right away. Sorry I couldn't reply right away, we lost power due to a big storm last night.
Sorry to butt into this
Sorry to butt into this convo but I'm getting a problem with my player also. It's not playing anything I wanna watch apart from the vids on the DIVX site.
I have been on various sites now and the same message keeps coming up.
"Sorry this is no a Divx Movie" and I know it is haha.
Any ideas how to get around this problem???
cheers
From what I've read on this
From what I've read on this thread, the problem isn't the DivX Web Player problem. The problem was the video was taken down or removed or wrong link to the video file.
nah
in my case im talking about perfectly good megaupload links, youre on the megaupload link you have that download button there but instead of downloading you grab the download url and put it in a divx player to stream in your browser. that used to work. still does actually but it takes super long to connect with megaupload, with 2shared forever it seems. and also the javascript for the download speed and quantity wont work.
maybe if there were instructions on how to use javascript with the new divx web player it would be cool
