Converting VOB (and FLV), to Divx
For once I am not going to complain about the Divx Converter. I feel very confident that it will be upgraded to be more customizable in the future.
I want to test the beta Divx Web Player with a 58 min, by backing up a 58 minute DVD that I have.
No problems ripping it to break down the DVD to VOBs, etc.
- I did receive an error message on this before, but can I load the VOB files in the Divx Converter ? Maybe there is a beta version out?
Can you upload the video to me here using our FTP Site. Use the following FTP account information to upload your file: (use Internet Explorer for this upload)
If you do not have internet explorer, or you are on a mac, you can use this free software:
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Server: ftp://ftp.divxnetworks.com
Username: divxsupport
Password: support
Let me know the name of the file and when it is done uploading. I will run some tests on the file to see what is going on.

DivX Converter doesn't include MPEG-2 as an input, but it can be added with a plug-in for $9.99 (bottom of the linked page):

A popular open source tool for creating H.264/MKV files is Handbrake.
It uses x264 as the encoder, so just be sure the settings are within the DivX Plus profile, which is posted here:
http://developer.divx.com/docs/divx_plus_hd/Creation_with_x264
e.g. AAC for audio, level 40...
We'll let everyone know when we have released our recommended preset for Handbrake and web player (soon).
I understand about the Divx MPEG-2 decoder add-in.
However, as I have been a paid license user for many years and I am registered to use the MPEG-2 decoder.
Since I do not see a place to attach a file to a message, I did a copy/paste, then upload to my web site of a JPG that shows that I already have a licensed copy of the Divx MPEG-2 add-in.
I an running Vista Ultra 64 bit, and went to my Vista Programs menu, selected All Programs, then selected Divx.
I then selected the subitem Divx Codec.
One of the items is Register Products.
Then a windows displays, that shows that the Divx MPEG-2 Plug-In is registered.
A copy and paste of the menu item I selected and what my Divx registration Screen looks like below:

Is there a separate MPEG-2 plug-in for the Divx Encoder that I need ??
Thanks,
Jon T.
It looks like you have everything you need. DivX Converter can convert VOB file as long as you have the MPEG-2 plug-in registered (according to your screenshot, you do)
I should note however, that DivX Converter cannot convert encrypted VOB files, or VOB files with DRM.

I am happy to say, that I have nothing with DRM on my PC.
I wonder if I need to re-install it ? Maybe re-download all of Divx or just the add-in.
If I download the Free Divx package, then enter my registration number, it becomes a registered version ??
What do you mean by encrypted VOB ??
I have been able to view the VOB files. I also have been able to encode a VOB file with Virtualdub, using the MPEG-2 decoder, that is installed in Vdub, then use the Divx 6.87 Pro codec in Vdub.
However, I want to try out some items with Divx 7.x and the new release of the Divx Web Player, and I think the only way to encode to Version 7.x is via the Divx Encoder ??
Any suggestions ??
Thanks,
Jon T.
PLEASE stay with web standards - Use Firefox 3.5x.
DVD VOB usually have an encryption embedded. Many times, usually the cases I've seen, the VOB are not encrypted after it is properly ripped from the DVD. It would means that it is no longer encrypted for it to be off the DVDs. But if the encryption are still intact, then yeah you can't encode it.
I can view the VOB video in several players.
No problem with copy protection or anything with the status of the VOB.
It is just that the Divx Converter throws it out.
Thanks,
Jon

Jon, if you are on Windows XP, you should give Dr. DivX 2.0 OSS a try. It will convert VOBs like there's no tomorrow. lol
If you are using Windows Vista or later, you want to download the Beta version of Dr. DivX 2.x in order for the installation to succeed. Dr. DivX 2 is very handy and powerful for it's simplicity.
i tried to convert FLV to Divx that can support windows vista home basic, the results are all so disappointing, i wonder is anyone can drop me a hint about a practical converter?
thank you in advance.
