16:9....... really?

I have a new LG 37" 720p telly. It works well with divx connected apart from, with an hdmi cable, going through the set up procedure it recognises my tv as 720p but 4:3. Thus if I want to see the menu (or family photos ) in their correct aspect ratio, I have to set my tv to 4:3 (otherwise my baby daughter looks double width!)

If I go into the setup menu and change the settings to 720p 16:9, the menu on the divx connected goes really haywire....the right hand half of the screen is "jumbled". videos view ok, but photos are equally jumbled.

any reason for this?
