Seems pretty good but...
Hey all. Ive managed to get my windows 7 to stream to my xbox360 and for the most part its very very good, but some mkv files wont display picture, just a black screen. The sound comes out but the picture doesnt, are these mkv files containing some unsupported file type?
Also, media player 12's ability to "play to" is pretty cool but the output quality is garbage, is there any way to increase the resolution it outputs? Likewise with divx through media centre, some are pretty good quality but others are not so good, ive enabled full de-blocking and sharpening in the codec settings but it seemed to make very little difference. Dont get me wrong, the quality is perfectly watchable but i fail to see how if the avi file is being decoded on the pc, then streamed to the xbox - how the quality can be less than say if i play it through my media player on the nintendo wii?
Sorry for rambling, but ive a million questions and am quite excited that ive finally found a forum specifically about streaming mkv through win7
Cheers to anyone that takes the time to read my ramble
i should just add that im also wondering if my mkv/avi files need to be set to have media player as theyre default player to be able to stream through media centre?
90% of my files play and 10% don't like MAFF says, black screen and audio only and no thumbnail. any ideas will be greatly appreciated??
This problem occurs on MCE for xbox360 and in WMC on the PC.

MKV is a package (like AVI) that can contain many different video and audio streams. In order to know why a particular file wont play you need to know what exactly is in it. Use a program like MediaInfo to find out exactly what is in the file. Odds are it is a video stream that is not supported.
