Hello there. This is my first post.

My divx files are no longer showing the divx icon. I have never had this problem before, and have tried confirming the association in properties and reinstalling the program. Recently I switched to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Any known issues? Any ideas what I can do to fix this?

Thanks, gordoncanada

It's been a while, more than two months that I am trying to find a solution to that same issue regarding the disappearance of DivX logo to my converted movie files. I have tried everything, you name it.. even all the suggestions I got from the DivX support team. Nothing worked.
I think the post written by Somnang on Dec 13, 2009 regarding this issue is certainly questionable, because if one changes the .divx extension to another application like .vlc extension it works seamlessly.

In files association panel I change the .divx extension to Divx Player. All I got is a music key sign instead of the divx logo. Same thing when I right-click on a file and click on "Change Icon" To Divx Player.

I am pretty sure that the pros at Divx should be able to find a way to fix this issue because the problem seems to lie within the compatibility build of DivX Pro 7 with Win 7. When I used to have Vista Home premium this logo or extension issue wasn't in order.

Thanks

Thanks for your replies. I tried that new Beta program and it did not change anything. In fact, I don't even notice it because I don't use it's functionality.

I think the last person is correct. It is an issue with the program. I actually installed another player (TLC) and assigned Divx to it. The icon changed as it is supposed to, and I want divx files to be easily identifible.

Merry Christmas, gordoncanada

Tech Preview

Did you install the DivX Plus Tech Preview of MKV on Windows 7? One of the features of this tech preview enables thumbnail generation for DivX files. It's a checkbox choice when you run the DivX 7 installer on Windows 7, so if you haven't tried that, here's more info:

File extension icons

I am pretty sure he's refering to the file extension and not the icon preview. Windows 7 is very stubborn on media file extension. It is no longer viable to release the extension that Media Player is taking. I am experiencing what many Windows 7 users now facing. I had been using Windows Vista and it was not like this. I have just installed Windows 7 and have come across many difficulties concerning the file extensions and many other disabilities Windows 7 put on its users.

Porfitron, please note that "*.div" file extension is given full rights to DivX Player but not "*.divx" extension. I have managed to set "*.divx" to be used by DivX Player successfully but the icon still shows it belongs to Windows Media Player. Windows 7 will not release or will not allow file extension configurations to be taken by other applications easily. This is not good when it comes to media players. I know that on Windows 7, the Windows Media Player looks much more sexier and cleaner that DivX Player, but that does not means Microsoft should cripple the users by disabling that specific ability that we once had the privilege to.

Perhaps your installer does not go enough length to set "*.divx" file to be assigned to DivX Player. I don't know for sure. It's just my guess. You may want to look into this.
