Will we have 3D playback someday?

After seeing Avatar 3D I am starting to look forward to a 3D TV someday and wondering if it will be possible to encode movies in divx and playback.

I think you are in the wrong place. I believe this is a hardware problem not DivX codec related.

Is it hardware? I assumed there would be some software updates to accomodate the 2 frames that need to be displayed for each eye.

You are thinking of a driver

You are thinking of a driver for a device (which I do think have nothing to do with DivX). DivX is not a driver. It's a video codec.
