New DivX Mobile Player 1.0

Hello DivX Mobile Player users,

We have been listening to your requests to create a version of DivX Mobile Player for Symbian 5th edition phones. Today, we released DivX Mobile Player 1.0. It targets Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition phones.

The 1.0 release has numerous updates and simplifications to the UI. The main new feature is touch-screen support for you Symbian 5th edition users.

Playback performance in 1.0 may or may not be as good on Symbian as it was in version 0.94. We still have version 0.94 available for UIQ 3.0, Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices. Version 0.94 is also still available for Symbian 3rd edition phones.

Give it a try at http://mobile.divx.com and let us know what you think. And for your next phone, please consider buying a DivX-certified device.

divx mobile 1 not working

i m using nokia e71 and ve installed ver 1 from labs.divx.com it has been installed successfully but as i open it opens n shows me the list even shows the .avi files but quits automatically without any error or any message. Version 0.94 working fine but does not support avi

Re: problem

If it quits automatically, you may have a corrupt file. Try loading just one clip first.
V0.94 supports AVI. Check to make sure the audio codec is MP3 and the video codec is DIVX (e.g. DX50).
Most likely your video files aren't encoded for mobile. Please see the stickies at the top of the forums. They will answer your questions.

DivX Mobile Player 0.94 for Windows Smartphone 6.5

I have a Samsung Omnia Pro B7330 with windows mobile 6.5 standard operating system. The player is working but both the video and the sound lags every now and then so I can't understand the movie. I don't know if I should keep it or remove it. Can you please fix the bugs and release a better one? Also, you mentioned that it is only a demo version and will expire later. How long will I be able to use it? 1 month? Thanks though.

Re: DMP v0.94

Most likely your video is too complex to decode and render in software. Please see http://labs.divx.com/node/7774 for tips on encoding your videos for mobile devices or consider purchasing a DivX-certified device next time. They have hardware acceleration for DivX files.

DMP for Windows Mobile

I'm using a Windows Mobile 6.5 Device (Samsung SGH-i637) and when I open de player appears a message that a new version is available in http://mobile.divx.com but there is no version for my windows mobile only for symbian. Why is that...?
I need the Cab.file for Windows Mobile, the version in Symbian is not compatible.
Please I need your help...!!

Nokia 6700s divx 1.0 issues

Hi,

I am using Nokia 6700s. Previously was using divx 0.94 and now trying with divx 1.0. Some issues are encountered:

1. During installation if select to install in memory card, divx cannot open after it is installed. Only install in phone memory then can open divx. Not an option for 0.94 last time.

2. Always got to refresh the playlist (files are in memory card) after exit and enter divx. No problem with 0.94 last time.

3. Fast forward will cause play error. No problem with 0.94 last time.

Comfortable when using 0.94 but not with this 1.0. Too bad I cannot use 0.94 as it prompted expired! How can I revert back to 0.94??

Perhaps pls improve for the next version.

But anyway, Million Thanks for creating this software!

New Mobile Player on Nokia X6

Hi

I've installed the s60v5 app on my Nokia X6 and although it's first install/run was successful, since then I've been unable to either see the app under "Applications/Install. apps." or watch videos by using file manager to click on the divx files directly. All I get is the "Unable to open. File type not supported." error message. All subsequent attempts (including several reloads of fresh copies of the sisx file) to get the app to run properly have been fruitless.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in anticipation of your earliest reply.

Cheers, Stuart

Nokia X6

Update: I've found it!
I wanted to use my FM Radio app and therefore went into the Music folder. Lo and behold, there's DivX Player in all it's glory and it works a treat.
However, why I can't click on a .divx movie and run the app puzzles me. Labs?

Re: Nokia X6

Symbian installs apps to different locations on different devices. I'm glad you were able to find it on yours.
As for clicking on a DivX file to launch the player, this is unsupported in DivX Mobile Player. Official DivX-certified devices do support the click-to-play functionality and play DivX videos right out of the box. Please see http://www.divx.com/mobile for a list of DivX-certified devices.

Unable to get Divx player working on Nokia X6

I am also facing the same problem.
I had trouble logging into divx labs to download after registering. Somehow, found a link on divx labs that had the S60V5 sisx file. Downloaded and installed on my Nokia X6. Still does not work. Any help is appreciated

Kannan

Can't login to labs.dix.com from mobile

Using the correct login details (same as the ones I'm using to access your site on my PC) to access this site from my mobile phone to download this app but keep getting the 'Authentication Error - error 5 etc...). There is only one labs.divx.com, right?

What are the vdo files supported ??

which file types are supported by divx player ?? avi, divx or any thing else ?

DivX player for Mobile Nokia e63

Dear Sir,

I regret to say, that with a lot of enthusiasm me and a lot of friends of mine, downloaded the latest player, thinking we could still see Divx or AVI movies on my phone Nokia E63, and yet when we ran it, it gives us a PLAYER GENERAL ERROR.

We have tried ever everything, from Restarting the phone to re-installing the Software, to playing just the Demo file but nothing, and I mean noting changes, the status of error. ALL IN ALL i BELIEVE YOU RELAEASED A PRODUCT WHICH DOES NOT WORK AS IT IS INTENDED TO.

I sincerely hope that you remove the latest update of File for Symbian S3 ( Nokia e63 users ), since you are getting a lot of Negative reviews and update a working version of MOBILE DIVX.

Thanks

Thanks

not working on n95 8gb

hello. I have a Nokia n95 8gb and neither version of divx mobile works on it. Version 1.0 simply does not launch and the previous version does not respond to any keys. What can i do? Also, i'm sorry if this issue was posted before. I'm on my phone and it's hard to search all threads. Thank you in advance for possible solutions.

Re: N95 8gb

We tested extensively on the N95 8GB and can assure you that it works well. Since we cannot reproduce this issue, I'll give you some suggestions to check for.

For v1.0, please make sure you use the build for 3rd edition phones. The 5th edition build is for touch-screen S60 devices.

You should be able to install DMP to either the memory card or internal storage, although on some phones there have been reports that internal storage works better. What is the error message that you receive?

DMP v1.0 will search for videos on the SD card in either the root folder, Movies, or My Movies. Please check that your videos are in one of those locations.

Player general error on Nokia E71x (at&t)

Installed the latest version on a Nokia E71x (on the internal memory). Application starts, and finds Demo1 and Demo2 with thumbnails. However, cannot play -> "Player general error". What can I try? Thanks.

dmp1.0

there is no player for smooth avi playback in s60 v5 . i tried uc player, july player but they suck in playing avi files . Divx 1.0 is not satisfactory either . Will it get better in future release? (i am praying for it)

Feedback re performance vs. 0.94

Hi, I am using SE U5 (Vivaz). Basically, v 1.0 does not work (horrible lag) when trying to run an unconverted movie (PC frame rate and resolution). Same movie runs ok on v 0.94 on the same device, although there are lost frames here as well. I do not recommend switching

Re: Performance

You're comparing apples to oranges here.
As I've mentioned before, playback in software can not compare to a DivX-certified device. I recommend either getting one that is DivX-certified, writing Nokia to ask them to certify their devices, and/or adjusting the bitrate on your DivX file. Bitrates at the mobile setting (~600 kbps, QVGA 320x240) tend to work best. DivX Converter (not Plus Converter) can convert your videos in one step.

Not finding the divx videos kept in external memory card

Hi,

I have a N97 mini. In that I have both Internal Mass memory and External Memory card.If I keep Divx videos in external memory card, the player is not able to find it.If I move the same to Mass memory,The Player is listing the video after the scanning.

Regards,
Sivabalan K

Re: Not finding videos

Which folder on the SD card are you storing them in? Try placing your videos in either the root folder, My Videos, or Videos.

DivX Player 1.0

The new 1.0 release suffers from significantly worse playback performance on my Nokia 6120c, the older .94 release works fine however.

I've also noticed that the application refuses to open when installed to the memory card.

I'm going to stick with version .94 until performance issues are ironed out in the later one.

The 6120c is a Symbian 3rd Edition phone by the way, of course.

Please Update

Great but HW is Better

Hooray! It's great to finally have an option for S60 5th Ed devices. However, everyone should know that DMP is no substitute for a real, DivX certified phone. The certified devices with integrated DivX playback simply perform better, provide better battery life, better integration with the rest of the phone and are better tested.

DMP 1.0 is for the many people who already have S60 devices and want some level of DivX compatibility but try the DivX certified devices if you are dissatisfied with DMP. Write letters to Nokia asking for a real DivX certified Nokia phone instead of just a software app. There's only so much DivX can do with software.

test

i download the app on my Nokia 5233 (Symbian S60 5th) for testing. and tommorrow i write my version.

Divx 1.0 Not working on Nokia N82

The application doesnt open

Review

I tested the DMP 1.0 on 5800 and 5320, both represent s60 5.0 and 3.2 respectively.
Lets take the 3.2 edition:As 0.94 version still resides in my phone i can compare both release. As stated in release note the later version is not optimized in performance wise. the divx video well playable on 0.94 now out of sync on 1.0. (Media info:Divx 5 384x288 500kbps@25 fps)
Another major issue is thumbnail generation. the 0.94 is well ahead with actual thumbnail preview but 1.0 version does it with a 51x51 jpeg file which is a black frame for almost all video files, and the black jpeg frame is included in picture gallery as its attribute is not hidden.
I did not take any further adventure with res and bit rate.

Now for 5th edition 5800 the touch interface is behaving like key pad input system and for every touch interaction i have to use context menu.
the performance is worse than 3.2 edition surprisingly the processor is 434 mhz in 5th edition.
The same divx 5 file 384x288 500 kbps@ 25 fps lags and audio is out of sync but viewable.
but when i try a xvid file 6208x272 @ 600 kbps and 25 fps the output frame rate is like 8 to 10 fps. resolution greater than 640 is not supported. and the video is not viewable at all one need at least 15 fps.
Finally It suffers the same thumbnail generation bug.

Thanks for your input

Thanks for your input.
If your video size is large enough try changing the setting for "Resize" to "None". Performance without zoom is better.
Videos generated with DivX Converter should not be out of sync. We cannot speak for other encoders, but are sorry to hear that.
As for thumbnails, the player grabs one of the first few frames, so if you have videos with seconds of black screen at the beginning, that could be an issue. We have included the thumbnails as JPGs so that you have the option to replace the cover images with poster art of your own choosing.

thanks for your rep

The thumbnail issue is the generated jpeg is showing in gallery and this issue was not in v0.94. changing the attribute of the thumb jpeg to hidden will do but its cumbersome for all video files.

0.94 thumbnail generation is perfect without these jpeg frame extraction and its done not from 1st or second frame but later frames of the video which is more descriptive.

about the performance i tried not to re-size at all and the performance gain is negligible.

may be next version would fix these issues.

Divx player 1.0

This is brilliant news. i have a sony ericsson satio. i have installed it and tried watching a divx clip.(a tv episode)
bitrate-1016
size-350mb

The satio has 256ram and 600+mhz processor so it can handle a video file such as this. unfortunately it was very jumpy and the screen was blank for most of the video. the audio came through but was also jumpy at times.

although the beta obviously needs work i am extremely happy to hear that divx labs has decided to release this. i'm sure after a few tweaks and a little more testing the final release will be flawless.

Keep up the good work and i hope the next release works properly.
