Have you tried using DivX HiQ Beta 4? We released it on 2/10/11
If the Cache isn't going to the DivX movies file anymore, then where is it going? Since it's not working to delete the cache through the options in the player, I'd like to be able to do it manually. My hard drive is pretty clogged, and I'm having to find new stuff to clear off there every time I want to watch a video almost. So where is this cache piling up? Thanks!
I read that a beta 3 was supposed to be released today, but when I download it from all the links, it's giving me this version: 2.1.0.758 um, that's the exact same version as beta 2 was. I still have the 0 buffer problem... I even tried to follow the steps you guys gave for CoZmonaut 0 buffer issues, but on Vista 64 have ran into quite a few issues trying to follow those steps.
In the %TEMP% folder, I don't see the "DDM" folder or the "boost_interprocess" folder. Also, in the registry, I don't find HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DivX\Settings\WebPlayer
I have tried deleting everything to do with the web player left behind under the program files, after deleting the beta web player.
My main issue with all this junk is how could Beta 2 and Beta 3 both be version 2.1.0.758, and how could I still be stuck having this issue of zero buffer?
I'm still having to use the last official release? That is a bummer, all else I can say is that I never had this type of problem until Beta 2, and I was hoping Beta 3 would work for me, like Beta 1 did, and like the official release does, and like all the other versions do.
I imagine that you have a Beta 3 version created, but the download links are still up for Beta 2... how could that happen?
Give me the real Beta 3 please!
Okay AWESOME... I found the REAL link to the beta 3 version, the one that replaced the old 2.0 version on the main DivX page. Right now, this new version is running great. I hope it doesn't stop running anytime soon! If it did, I'd be up a creek with no paddle. Love this version, glad my input was taken to heart, love DivX (GUSH), and you guys should update the divx labs links to the new beta 3, because it's mislabeled and still giving 2.0, so it's very confusing!
Um, pretty please, with sugar on top, add a proxy feature so we can have buffer acceleration through Bywifi. (icing on my cake)
Oh my God... GUSH.
Pros- Bye bye flash player, need I say more ?
Cons- doesn't appear on embedded videos (like the vids on blogs and websites other than youtube itself) forcing you to watch it at youtube.com (strangely even when watching vids from a profile page it won't appear) so yeah you gotta go out of your way to use it which tends to be pretty inconvenient.
I am also curious if there is any plans for 64 bit ? as I plan on making the switch when firefox 4 comes out.
Hi Cookiepuck,
Thanks for the feedback. Correct, for now, DivX HiQ works on the actual video sites, but please stay tuned on DivX Labs and follow us on twitter for product updates. Also, keep your feedback coming, we appreciate it.
Jeet
I love the idea of this plugin, and it worked fine for a few playbacks. But after aprox. 10 playbacks on Youtube it just stopped, showing the black buffering screen and nothing more, and my Firefox browser 3.6.10 (running on Windows 7) stops responding.
Installed it on an other computer with Windows XP, same problem, after a few playbacks it stopped and won't play any movie anymore. Even rebooting, uninstalling, re-installing, won't start it again.
Looks like some file is corrupted which isn't reinstalled after a new installation. I also found out that a directory C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Local\Temp\DDM\Settings\Temporary Downloaded Files is filled with files and doesn't clean up (this function is available in the player, but the files will still remain).
I've also manually emptied the Temporary directory, but this won't make the HiQ player play again.
Repeated the same on a third computer (also XP) but again same problem of few times playback and then dead forever. Nothing will make it work again.
The PC configurations are:
#1 = Intel's Atom D510 Dual Core Processor (2x 1.66 GHz) with 2Gb memory and Windows 7 home edition and NVIDIA ION-2 graphicscard.
#2 = Intel Quad Core Q8200 2.33 GHz with 4Gb memory (XP profession) NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
#3 = Pentium 4 with 1 Gb memory (XP home) NVIDIA something else (don't know the exact specs of that machine)
(also tried this with the Chrome browser)
Would be nice to have a solution for this, because I love this player, it's playback is very good, much better than the standard youtube or vimeo flash player.
Keep up the good work, but please solve this problem
Hey CoZmonaut,
Sorry to here that you are having trouble with our beta. So just to be sure I'm understanding what is happening to you correctly, are you saying that when youinstall the DivX Plus Web Player with HiQ on one of your computers it only works ~10 times? So each computer it worked ~10 times and then stopped working? Or did it work ~10 times on one computer and then not work on any of them after that? Does the Web Player work on this page (http://labs.divx.com/Webplayer) for you?
Would you please try doing this:
1. Uninstalled DivX Plus Web Player 2.1 Beta
2. Reboot your computer
3. Go to your temp folder (easiest way is to do Start->Run, type %TEMP% in the Open box, and click Ok)
4. In that folder delete the "DDM" folder and the "boost_interprocess" folder
5. Go to C:\Program Files\DivX\
6. Delete the "DivX Plus Web Player" folder
** Don't do steps 7 and 8 if you aren't comfortable or familiar with using the Windows Registry Editor.
7. Start->Run, type regedit, click Ok
8. Delete the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DivX\Settings\WebPlayer
9. Re-install DivX Plus Web Player 2.1 Beta
Don't feel sorry, I know what beta means, and love to help solve this issue.
I've done all the steps you've mentioned, also the regedit but there was no KEY left (probably already removed by the deinstallation process). Also couldnt find the "boost_interprocess" folder (Windows Search couldnt find it either).
But after these steps the player won't start playing the video on page: http://labs.divx.com/Webplayer .
It's as you have understood, I can play movies a couple of times after installation on a pc and then it dies. Installing on anonther pc will give me again a few plays and then dies also. Even on PC's in different networks (one at home and one at the office). All the same problem, few times running, and then dead forever.
Even your extended deinstallation procedure didn't make it bring back alive :-(
Offcourse I will also look further for a recovery method so it will play again.
okay... I've got it back online, after some search for the "boost_interprocess" folder I finally found it and did the procedure again including the removal of this folder. Now the player plays videos again, so it looks this "boost_interprocess" folder is the reason for ending playback. I'm done for today, but will continue to find out the exact problem.
Thanks for the help I will keep you informed.
Ever since I downloaded the beta version, which works pretty good on my computer, My divx player will not allow me watch any media. I have been using divx products for years now and this is the first real issue I have ever had. But if it comes down to making a choice I would just like to have the video player working correctly again. Is there any one here that can help me with this problem.
thanks,
Chris
i have firefox 3.6.10, WinXPS P3,
the plugin sometimes freezes ffxo and i'm obliged to kill the process and restart it again. so for now i have remove it waiting for a better version ..
The video keeps downloading even if you navigate away. It's impossible to watch a second video before the former finishes downloading. The only way I could find to stop the download is closing the browser.
setup won't launch on my vista laptop. it doesn't even load no matter how many times i double click. dont have problems with other apps.
Please visit the link below and send a message to our support team. They are very responsive and will get in touch with you to help resolve the issue.
Got flash 10.1 and I was expecting some drop in cpu usage, but this is ridiculous. On 1080p I dropped from +/- 40~60% down to 0~10% (without any hardware acceleration I hit the 80~90%)
CPU Intel E8400
MEM 4GB
GRA ATI HD 5770 (DX11)
OS Windows 7 x64 (browser chrome)
Some glitches that I noticed, right clicking on the video image in rare moments makes the audio loop. Failed to reproduce, fixed by reloading the page.
Occasionally the video image is displayed behind the browser when I hit full screen. (I have to minimize my browser to see it)
I'll test it on a some new HP laptops, 10.1 failed to produce any useful results @ 1080p. Perhaps HiQ will change the tides.
when i try to click the divx link it shows a message saying
"the downloaded video file is not a divx file"
what could be the problem?
Hello its me again =)
please make it possible to embed youtube videos using the divx hiq webplayer!
Hello,
i might have some news about that issue and found something i can reproduce. My story:
I got the DivX HiQ WebPlayer to work after uninstalling the complete package (codec, player and everything). I was very happy until i rebooted.
After the reboot, everything was stuck at 0% buffering. I tried a few things but one thing i can reproduce now. Since i use a regular user account for surfing, after the reboot DDMService.exe wasnt running with admin privileges anymore (it autostarts after the installation with admin privileges). Now i tried to kill the DDMService.exe task and restarted it as admin (Admin CMD shell: "C:\Program Files\DivX\DivX Plus Web Player\DDMservice.exe start")
Now the videos buffer and play correctly. If i kill DDMService and start is with my regular user account, its stuck at 0% buffer.
Please make sure DDMService doesnt need admin privileges, it will couse way more problems than this in the future (security...)
I would also be happy if someone could tell me why it needs admin privileges or where the DivX HiQ webplayer wants to save data.
PS: Thanks for the player, i cant wait for the final version :)
First off, I've been waiting for something like this, both flash and the browsers h264 codecs are cpu hogs like there is no tomorrow.
I got it to work on a 720p youtube vid once, but it was just a few secs and then buffering-buffering-buffering.
Now, it just gets stuck at buffering 0%. Also, I have to manually end plugin-container.exe or Firefox remains unresponsive. Mind you, flash buffers ok, so its not a bandwidth issue.
First off,
This thing's a blast.
I can play 720p videos flawlessly on my netbook.
Intel Atom N270, GMA 950.
It's pretty amazing, as it could save battery life
with lower CPU usage.
However, I have a huge problem.
I'm unable to load any video on YouTube.
I've been given a 403 error every time I try to load one.
I tried on many various browsers, and same error.
I'd like to mention a few glitches I've come across in my brief experiences with the amazing new HiQ feature.
A couple of times I've had the videos abruptly stop as if they had ended, but obviously it was only near the end, and the whole video hadn't finished playing. All I could do is restart the video near the end of the seek bar, and then it would play the entire video till the actual ending.
Once I've had a video start repeating the footage in a two second loop while the sound continued playing on behind it. It actually got stuck looping the video! All I could do was refresh the video, because messing with the seek bar didn't fix it!
On another video, as it was playing, it would be going along fine, not stuck buffering or anything, but then it seamlessly went back and replayed the same scene a second time after it had just played. As if it had rewound thirty seconds and played, but seamlessly without interruption. In the same video, it did that two times, and all I could do was skip ahead to the right part with the seek bar.
On yet another video, the sound randomly cut out, and I had no idea why, I feverishly started scrambling around to see what could be the matter. It turned out the volume bar in the web player had just mysteriously cut to mute! Readjusting the audio bar turned the sound back on.
I realize it's only the new beta, and it's bound to have minor issues, and so I've mentioned the ones I've come across. It's nothing to really gripe about though, most of the videos I've tested have played just fine! I'm really loving HiQ thus far!
Go DivX, I love you guys! Seriously, is there any way I can get a free t-shirt?
ok, intalled, uninstalled, intalled again. It don't work and crash all the time forcing me to kill the process.
Also I noticed that DDMService take up to 50% of the CPU and is not shut when you kill Firefox or Chrome (forced to), so you need to kill it separately.
Using latest Firefox and Chrome (tried it with Firefox 4 and don't work either).

I also use Outpost Security Suit, but I didn't see any problem with it as it don't show blocking any process from DivX, and as I just upgraded it is on learning mode, so any new process it detects you are asked about so you can add it to the app rules.
What I did see on Outpost is that the browser try to contact (several times) the video site but nothing is downloaded.
- With Firefox 3.6.8, as soon as the browser tries to use the plugin (HiQ and HTML5), I get mutliple messages telling me, there was an error loading the C runtime lib.
Runtime Error! [path to "firefox.exe"] R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly."
- With IE8 the HTML5-plugin doesn't work and HiQ just freezes the tab and makes the underlying tab process use up one CPU core completely.
Hi jeet,
thanks for the fast reply. i have tried a few things and found out that the divx webplayer tries to save the video to a location where i can't write with regular user prvileges.
When i use the admin account, the divx webplayer HiQ works very well.
Where can i change the location for the folder?
Hello,
i have installed the new beta player and rebooted.
everything worked out well, HiQ options showed up on youtube and other sites. BUT... since then i get the same error for all files, not just those on youtube, like post #5
"The video could not be downloaded completely" even for regular divx files that worked before....
I am using Windows Vista 32bit and tried a bunch of browsers (ie,firefox, chrome etc.).
I hope you guys can fix this fast couse i cant wait to test this :).
Thanks C64 & anishpsla
We're on it, our tech ninjas may send you a personal message to get some more info. We want to catch instances like this before we do a full roll. These might be isolated events due to personal PC settings (our lab users are known for tweaking, customizing & pimping-out their machines) and/or it could be beyond that on the web player's side, but we'll work to figure it out. When we get more info, I'll update this post and add it.
When I play a video with only 240p and 360p available, the DivX Player only shows 480p in the list under the video, but seems to play the 240p version. (poor sound quality, eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nPAkX1oot0)
Videos with additionally 480p available play fine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRgQxppCHQE), but here, too, only 480p shows up in the list.
Great feedback, this is exactly why we're previewing this early so we can understand user experiences in real-life testing. When video sites like YouTube upload video there are multiple versions of the clip created in various encoding settings and files extensions (server side transcoding) DivX HiQ Beta will playback the streams & formats that are technically supported by the DivX Plus Web Player. This means it will not grab the 240p version because it may have been encoded in a non-supported format or is in the flv file extension. Also, you will notice the benefit of HiQ on higher quality / HD clips, so playback differences for 240p & 360p will not be that noticeable. FYI: We're already working on extending support to more formats and rest assured that the majority of high quality clips on these sites are in H.264/MP4 which is supported by HiQ.
Supported Video Files/Formats for DivX Plus Web Player
| Container | Video Codec | Audio Codec | |
| DivX | MPEG-4 ASP | MP3, AC3* | |
| AVI | MPEG-4 ASP | MP3, AC3* | |
| MKV | H.264, MPEG-4 ASP | AAC, MP3, AC3* | |
| MP4 | H.264, MPEG-4 ASP | MP3, AAC | |
| MOV | H.264, MPEG-4 ASP | MP3, AAC | |
| * Files that contain AC3 or DTS audio tracks will play natively in most DivX Certified devices, but may require you to install an AC3 DirectShow filter to play in the DivX Plus Player | |||
Ok, thanks for this explanation.
But if there are no mp4 versions of 360p and 240p, how can DivX Player play videos where only these formats are available? (eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nPAkX1oot0)
The other thing with this video is the already mentioned poor sound quality when playing with the DivX Player. It sounds like it was playing only in mono. Maybe this has something to do with my question above.
I will check with my team and keep you posted. My guess is that DivX HiQ is finding a 480p mp4 stream that is not normally accessible for playback. That mp4 stream may have been encoded with different audio settings. I tried to visit the youtube link you posted using my iPad and "no video" was available at all to watch, so this supports my guess that an mp4 version is not accessible for standard playback at this particular link. DivX HiQ is about options & choices, so in this scenario I would yield to the default player. If I come across an HD clip that Flash is struggling with, then I would yield to DivX HiQ. FYI: If you click the Cog/Gear icon on the DivX HiQ bar you can specify playback defaults. We're working to expand more format support thanks for pointing this out.
gonna test it soon on my new computer it looks very impressive
This feature is not very handy, because it doesn't even have an option to auto-enable it. What I'd like is to be able to select in the preferences to always have DivX HiQ enabled, and to always have it set to play on the highest quality setting, such as 1080p. Without those types of options, it's little more than a toy, since the Flash still buffers much faster, and automatically without the delays.
While the HiQ performed slightly better than the flash player on youtube for CPU usage, buffering is no comparison, since Bywifi acceleration works so perfectly with flash, and not so good with DivX.
My Quad Core has no problems playing any flash videos, there's never any stuttering, but playing around with DivX would be cool for the better frame rate and picture quality. It's very interesting!
Hi Philochs,
There actually are settings for this under the settings gear on the right of the HiQ bar.
I put together the following instructions on how to auto-enable HiQ on supported sites, as well as how to have it always default to the highest quality video.
Hopefully these instructions are helpful:
http://labs.divx.com/node/16267
Oops, sorry, I had just found out about the new version and got it installed at 3am, and only very briefly tinkered with it, and figured since you guys had not mentioned these options, that they must not exist, after checking preferences.
Okay, I'm gonna keep playing around with it, but it just buffers far too slow for me to replace flash in my everyday use. Most times I tried to watch HD videos with HiQ it ended up crashing firefox, and when it didn't crash, Firefox would still go non-responsive for a long moment while it loaded, before it even started to buffer. Buffering in the DivX web Player is still very slow with MP4, like it is with every other format on most websites.
It does buffer fast enough for me to keep playing with it, since most stuff I watch on youtube is native 480p anyway, but it still takes a lot longer for the video to start playing, and a lot longer to buffer in total.
With Adobe Flash, youtube videos usually take about 1-2 seconds to start playing, while in DivX HiQ it usually took about 8-10 seconds to start for 480p, and much longer for HD. When playing a 5 minute 480p video in the flash player with bywifi acceleration enabled, the entire video took about 10-15 seconds to completely load, testing that same video in DivX HiQ took over 3 minutes! Ten seconds to buffer vs over three minutes, that's a huge difference!
Seeking is much faster, smoother, and more accurate in the flash player as opposed to the DivX Plus Web Player HiQ. Also, the audio is always showing up as AAC in HiQ, even when it's probably an MP3 source, and obviously there's no save as option for these videos either.
I'm gonna tinker with it for the better picture quality and frame rate, but you guys should know there's lots of work to be done. Developing this is definitely a worthy investment. I'd hope you'll take my comments into consideration, and get Bywifi acceleration for the divx web player working, as it does in flash, or at least do something for buffering.
Bottom line, please massively improve the buffering speed, and fix the seeking responsiveness while you're at it!
I am getting Download error. Divx Webplayer could not download the file. I am using it on Windows XP IE8. For FF, it doesn't show Divx bar. Also I am connection to Internet through Proxy.
what struck me was right after the installation is that Firefox is supported on several occasions and that after the installation from the Web Player plugin. Since most urgent must be rectified!
If this beta is still causing crashes in Firefox for you, can you tell us more about your setup (Windows version, Firefox version) and maybe your graphics card information from CPU-Z?
Were you experiencing the crash on a particular video site, or did your browser just keep crashing after the plug-in install?
And thanks again for volunteering to try out this beta!
Hi,
I have Windows 7 64 bit, 4 GB RAM, ATI Sapphire HD 5770 OC, AMD Athlon X2 ll 240, Socket AM3, Mainboard: ASUS M3N72-D, nForce 750a SLI, Creative Sound Card Titanium, Firefox 3.6.9, Panda Antivirus Pro AV 2011th
The crashes I have not now, after I started the new Firefox several times, that happened when I installed the plugin, because I feel the FF crashed several times. Now for about two hours, the FF is very quiet with no crashes.
So now I am testing the new web player and I'm disappointed. It is indeed on youtube and Co., but if there is in the movies Subtitels, they are NOT visible in the settings and there is no way to set this. Irgentwie a poor performance by the divx team. As long as that is not supported, I can only advise from this web player and NOT to install it. An example?
Thanks for pointing out the suggestion... the reason why we released this beta is so that users like you could report this kind of feedback. We will log your issue about support for subtitles on YouTube, and if you didn't already notice, you can easily switch back and forth between DivX HiQ and the web site's native Flash player by clicking in the HiQ bar, so you should be able to watch any movies with subtitles as needed in the YouTube player.
Thanks again.
ok. I notice white, but please ensure that the Subtitels are supported, the need is.
I haven't tested yet (since I'm a Mac user).
The new plugin looks promising and the mention of a Mac version got me salivating. Please make sure that the Mac plugin is compatible with FileVault and relocated user accounts (not on the boot drive) — the previous version of the plug-in never was…
Corentin

the buffering issue is only temporarily fixed. when i download the patch it works fine then but when i restart the computer later i have to rerun the patch again and override the download and reinstall to get Divx to work. my laptop is hpg72 processor p6100 intel hd 3gb ram-the old version worked great can i download that again ?_Note: i had to reinstall windows 7 ultimate on my laptop because divx wouldn't uninstall and the force uninstall messed up my system.Divx has always been a fantastic resource but recently it has been so buggy that i have been looking at other options
