Have you guys checked out the HTML5 Demo? What are some of your first thoughts and impressions? Be sure to test it out using Firefox and Chrome and stay tuned for extended support for Internet Explorer and Safari in our final release version.

Controls shrinks video

While I was design a web page in HTML5 containing a video I noticed that if I enable the controls attribute, the video shrinks to accomodate the controls. Unlike the standard tag which auto-hides and appears over the video at the bottom, the DivX player does neither and ruins the look of the page. I've tried this in Chrome, Safari, Opera and Firefox and they all work the same way without DivX. Since your plugin hyjacks the tag, is there a way to get the controls to do the same thing without creating my own?

Problems with the player

Dear Divx developers,
I have used the new plug-in on my website and noticed a problem with the subtitle implementation. The problem is that the player crashed the browser every time I tried to change the subtitle. The browser is Firefox latest stable and the same result is with Opera, IE and chrome (all latest stable versions)
MKV subtitles are great feature and it would be great to make it work.

Also there are some other problems with the subtitles:

First of all the yellow does not always work it would be great if we could change this parameter somehow or make it default yellow
Then, the subtitle size sometimes is too large and really difficult to read. Can there be a way to scale it somehow according to window size selected in the parameters? or at least make it default 12 font size or similar.

Thank you for all your hard work,
Gchan

Here are the areas in the HTML5 spec that cover this:

http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#media-element

http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#video

To see some of these video tag attributes in action checkout the HTML5 Demo. There you can see how the web player is able to leverage custom controls and also playback video tag embedded H.264/MP4 video in FireFox by calling on the web player.

You should check out the

You should check out the HTML/CSS/JavaScript for the DWP HTML5 demo (http://labs.divx.com/html5) too. I tried to make it in a way that it was easy to just look in the one file and see how things work. Feel free to borrow any of the code in it. :)

No FTP, Flock not Tested

@Voolf00 - FTP is no longer a supported protocol, in fact, it never [intentionally] was. It just happened to work in the old version, but we had to make important core changes to improve streaming that did not include FTP at all, and we have no near-future plans to get FTP working since it would require a lot of custom work. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@Warregubbi - We have not tested this for Flock, and we can put it on the list, but for the first production launch of 2.1, we are focused on making it work with all features (DivX HiQ, HTML5...) on IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. We've had a lot of requests for Opera, so we'll see what we can do, and I'll get Flock added to the list, but there are no guarantees. Thanks for checking it out in the meantime!

Not found by Flock 3 (Chrome based)

If I try the demo, i get the message to download the software even if installed it, i'm using Flock 3 (beta) which is Chrome based. The extension isn't listed in the extensions menu either, is there a way i can add the extension?

we're keeping an eye on it

we're keeping an eye on it and watching how everything plays out. Props to Google for basing WebM on MKV which is the DivX Plus container for H.264.

No rush on webm

Judging from the all encompassing direction you guys are taking the web player with HTML5 and such, I'm sure you'll eventually have to support it. Seriously though, I understand why there's no big rush. You already support h.264 in mkv, and that's what's really important!

I'm sure VP8 is poised to become quite popular in the years to come, but forgetting the hype, it's definitely not as good as h.264. They try to say it's better but ha ha, no it's not as good. It's interesting to note once again, that the first DivX Plus Web Player supported the webm standard Vorbis audio, and newer versions have dropped the support.

Anyway, I do think it will be a great benefit to add webm support, because in a few years, way in the future, it will eventually become a big deal.

One thing is certain, while Adobe Flash is a dead end, and Silverlight was dead on arrival, the future of the DivX Plus Web Player seems filled with limitless possibilities! I for one, couldn't live without the DivX Web Player, and I use it most every day!

We are the music-makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers, and sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers, on whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers of the world forever, it seems.

The new HTML5 feature is not even working with Firefox 3.7a1

I know what you guys would say about not focusing on Firefox Beta versions, but it would really make sense to have the web player and all it's feaures working well on the newest Alpha versions of firefox. Other web browsers, and you'd have a good point, but the fact is that the 32-bit alpha versions of Firefox that are called Minefield are the very best, and fastest web browsers in the world.

Bottom line, you should make 'em work with Minefield, and give us no more guff! How hard could it be? Probably just a tweak or two.

I agree that the betas for

I agree that the betas for Firefox 4 (aka 3.7) are great; I have it on my machine too. The problem is that there are a lot of changes going on in Firefox right now (which is normal for Mozilla in the pre-Release Candidate phase) which would make our extension break with great regularity. Mozilla isn't really expecting extension developers to start working with the new release until it is feature complete. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/10/27/firefox_4_slips/)

Never fear, we will be ready when Firefox 4 comes out. ;)

Good job! In Mozilla checked

Good job!
In Mozilla checked - works, but on my site back to a version 1.5 web player (I use the FTP protocol for video files in PHPbb3 ...)

We are waiting for new developments - when the web player will be no worse than it was in the old version 1.5 :)

We are aware that the current beta doesn't work for IE8. The next release will have support for IE8 though.
