unsupported format

when trying to play a video i received a unsupported format error," this video is in an unsupported format and can not be played without installing additional directshow filters.
the video is in matroska formate with a A_DTS audio. i have the divx codec pack installed a long with ffdshow. where would i get additional directshow filter?

beware of VIRUS when you get this error

I was getting this error in divx player, so i tried windows media player and was told i needed a new codec and asked if i wanted to download, i said yes, and it turns out it was a Virus that rewrote my MBR (master boot record) and gave me the bsod (blue screen of death)-- luckily i fix computers so i was able to recover easily, but BEWARE!

Same problem

Trying to play MKV files in DivX Plus player v8.1.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. AC3Filter v1.63b installed. No codec packages installed on this machine, as far as I can remember, or that I can see in my program list.

DivX Plus player gives me the same "Unsupported format" error described by lartomar2002.

The files also do not play in WMP, but they play fine in Media Player Classic.

Here's the mediainfo for an example file (an mkv ripped from an "Angel" DVD using makeMKV).

Any ideas?

==================

EDIT: it may be the MPEG 1/2 video stream. I tried some MKVs with AVC video streams and MPEG 4 video streams and they played fine. Any way I can get my MakeMKV videos work?

MakeMKV does not trasncode

We only support H.264 in MKV. MakeMKV just takes the MPEG-2 stream from the VOB and puts it in MKV with no transcoding, so you're pretty much limited to where you'll be able to play these files. For example, most hardware players have H.264 decoders, and if it's MKV capable or DivX Plus HD certified, you'll be able to play H.264/MKV files just fine, but I can't think of any mainstream players that support MPEG-2 in MKV, even though many players support MPEG-2 in VOB or other containers.

Sorry, but the only solution will be to transcode the file. You can always use Handbrake.

Post MediaInfo

Can you post the mediainfo for a file that's not working for you?

Same problem here. It's NOT an audio problem

I have exactly the same problem here. It's NOT an audio codec missing. DivX player and WMC don't recognize the video encoded on DivX Converter using MKV and H.264.

Here's a special detail: I've encoded many DVD VOB files and the work really well; Blu-ray files were encoded (Avatar), but DivX and WMC don't recognize the MKV file. HOWEVER, XBMC CAN decode it (including sound), although the movie is "jumping" from frame to frame (I don't know to tell that in English...).

Since XBMC may have it's own codecs, I believe the problem is with the DivX codec for Direct Show.

Please, give us an answer.

AC3filter

Files that contain AC3 or DTS audio tracks may require you to install an AC3 DirectShow filter to play in the DivX Plus Player.

You can Google for a free download of AC3filter and it'll enable these types of audio tracks on Windows.

For Mac, you'll want to install Perian.
