following http redirects
i have noticed that divx web player does not follow http redirects in most cases. I have found however that when a link that would nromally be redirected is inputed to a divx web player generator and the user waits a full 30 seconds before pressing play, that the file will indeed stream as is intended.
unfortunately this method only works the first time and not any time afterward for a considerable length of time (seems to work once a day for me)
i was wondering if this is normal behaviour. if waiting 30 seconds is some kind of bug that shouldnt be there, or if it is suppose to work everytime but doesnt.
does anyone know of a way to always have divx player follow the redirects? i do not mind waiting 30 seconds before playing the file. i do however mind having to extract to redirected URL everytime i want to stream a file.
you can use the attached hotfile link to test on any online divx web player generator. (i believe divx labs has one somewhere, i am hosting my own at http://cwal.net84.net)
simply visit any hotfile link(http://hotfile.com/dl/88142391/260efd6/Electric_Guitar_Scrape_And_Pound_DivX.avi.html), when "click here to download" page appears, right click and copy link location. input this link into the divx generator, WAIT A FULL 30 SECONDS BEFORE PRESSING PLAY (this is crucial, any less and it fails) then the file should stream without a problem. try again however and no matter how long you wait, and it will fail.
is this a bug? should divx always handle redirects? or should it not process them at all?
P.S.
a flash player (jwplayer + flowplayer were tested) is always able to handle the redirect, without waiting and unlimited amount of times.
any information/help/suggestions/comments are appreciated.
thank you

i have actually downloaded
i have actually downloaded the latest version and it does the same thing it crashes firefox when trying to view anything. it was the same i installed, played a few files and then i restarted and it would not work again. i have divx web player 2.1.0.900
freezes
with this divx, after a computer restart, i cant get any videos regardless of redirect to stream. it buffers at 0% and if i try to close tab or go to a differet page it crashes both firefox and chrome.... this is unfortunate.
Same here
Having the zero buffer issue once again, after a restart. Had it on Beta 2, now I have it on Beta 3. I'm very confused, and I hope the final release doesn't have this issue. Help getting this issue sorted would be awesome.
0%
so before restarting divx worked properly? i played a few videos before a restart and it seemed to be fine. only after a restart i had problems. odd.
thanks
thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
i did get excited for a moment, as it seemed to follow the redirect flawlessly, without the need to wait 30 seconds. however, it seems it still only works once. everytime afterwards i get a "failed to finish downloading" error.
edit: maybe i spoke too soon. seems a couple minutes later divx was able to handle the redirect again. i am doing some more extensive testing now. i will post back with results.
Thanks for the heads up. This
Thanks for the heads up. This is indeed a bug that is in Web Player 2.0.x. The defect has already been fixed in the new Web Player 2.1 that we just released yesterday however. The new release has better HTTP compatibility, including redirects, and much better download speed performance than 2.0.
