DIVX Malware?

Hi

Ok so i'll start from the beginning. I wanted to stream .MKV files to my xbox 360 so i searched online for a way and i found a forum with a guy posting a comment with a link to this site (DivX Plus Codec Pack). I read it and the program does exactly what i wanted so i downloaded using the download link provided. Download was quick and simple but once i tried opening folder, my AVG 9.0 antivirus software warned me that the divxinstaller.exe had malware on it. The official Divx website seems pretty trustworthy and it is quite popular so i'm quite surprised. I also checked on the website www.softonic.com and see what they thought of this program and there 7 out of 30 antivirus scanning programs came up with 'Possible Malware Infection'.

So my question is,
Is the official Divx Codec Pack infected with malware or is it all a false warning which some antivirus software does soemtimes?

I guess there's a component in divx that has suspicious code or behavior. I've had divx constantly detected by multiple AVs as malware since 2002. The issue has never been fixed...! Why?

False Alarm

If you got the installer from an official source (like www.divx.com) it should be fine. There have been a few cases of sites re-packing our stuff or putting our name on their stuff, but there is no malware in the official DivX packages.
