Downloading custom skins?

I am looking to skin my player its already working on my system my troubles are how can other people get my skin when they view my site if your plugin already comes with stage6 or default divx skin? Can you guys add something to the system that will allow users who goto other sites with divx web player to download the skin? its 14kb it wouldnt take very long I find it a bit unfair only a stage6 skin is included considering you guys shut down the site!

Works great other then that I have no problems. Keep up the good work~!

Question

So why doesn't DIVX have any links to this from their main website???

I had never heard of this before today. And then I couldn't find it on their site. How did a million people find out about this to download it if they hid it so well?

I think

Hi Guys, Thanks for your comments and ideas. Unfortunately none of them worked.......BUMMER!!!! I have also downloaded and installed a pre-release version of XP Service Pack 3 but still nothing. Something new I have noticed though is a "Temporary Downloaded Files" folder has been placed on my desktop. It contains a part file of 28,290kb. I have no idea what it is and cannot open it.
I think ultimately it is something very minor like something i haven't ticked or an option i haven't enabled somewhere on my PC, but i am not guru so feel as though i am looking for a needle in a haystack.
I will keep trying ideas and methods though.

Hi Energy

KBE is a small tool I originally had written just for myself to help me optimize my DivX video encoding work flow. As it has now been running here for more than one and a half years, I thought, perhaps it is time to throw it at the public, and see what you can do with it.

I was wrong and I was right .....

I put in a post on this forum on 09/25/2007 about how Divx has not just abandon development for the Divx Web Player, but is not even going to fix the bugs that are currently in it that make it flat out not a working product anymore, for those who choose to embed Divx Video in their web sites.
I still beg and plead to Divx Labs to just complete Web Player version 1.4 to allow it to function.

The Divx Web Player was fantastic when it first was released and was the best of breed for having visitors and customers play video from website.

Where I guessed wrong on my 9/25 post that Divx Labs abandon the Web Player probably because of Divx Connection. A product that I am skeptical about its success, since what Divx Connection will do, has been done before, by several companies.

I have invested a lot of time and energy for years in Divx and really love the software, but I have been very concerned about Divx staying in business. With the major, major hole in their product line for a functional product that will allow streaming of Divx video, and with the future looking a lot like H.264 is going to be the product of choice for MPEG4, web based streaming video.

BUT .....I just read about Divx buying the absolute best of breed, most technically savvy company, when it comes to the creation of Codecs in the world, Main Concept, I think that I NOW understand what is going on.

I have been a Main Concept customer for years and for the most part, they provide the codecs, encoders and decoders for top of the line businesses. For example the Adobe encoder is made by Main Concept. Corel is going to integrate Main Concepts technology into their software, etc.

One of the things that is so important is that Main Concept has made the flat out best H.264 codec that exists today. Their H.264 encoder is also the fastest and the best quality H.264 encoder around.
Main Concept just released a stand alone encoder called Reference, that will encode one format to another, depending on what codecs have been purchased and installed into it.
With Divx now owning Main Concept, a simple adding of the Divx Pro codec/encoder/decoder to it will allow use to chose out output. Just yesterday, I downloaded the demo of their MJPG codec, so I can convert these videos taken with my Canon digital camera to Divx. I installed it, than it shows up in Virtualdub and worked great !!

I am so thrilled with this purchase.

But PLEASE finish up the Divx Web Player 1.4. It is very frustrating. Stage 6 is not the answer for many of us.

Jon

Please complete Divx Web Player 1.4

Can Divx Labs PLEASE complete Divx web Player 1.4. The beta has been out for a long, long time and those who have embedded Divx video in their web sites, used the code generator and SDK info to do this, would really love to just have our Divx videos work for those using the Divx Web Player. For me, I don't care about enhancements on it, but to just function, like it did with version 1.1. PLEASE.

Thanks,

Jon

Connecting but not buffering

Hello,

I do not know if this is the place to post it, if it isn't maybe you can redirect me but I have a problem, I have been using DivX for about 1 month now and suddenly a couple of days ago it stopped working. I had updated it too. It says connecting but then never buffering like it did before and it does this for all DivX sites I use. I have Windows Vista and before these were the stages to watch a DivX.
1. It connected.
2. The Color scheme on Windows Vista changed.
3. It buffered.
Now it does not go pass the connecting stage and it does not change the color scheme.
I have the latest version of DivX, reinstalled it twice but it is still not working, and am using Firefox 2.
Any thoughts ? Because DivX is great quality and is the best !!!

Web Player Hangs OSX

Hi.
I just wanted to comment that im ussing the latest release of the webplayer and i cannot play anything without the player hanging my browser, and also, the whole system. Also i downloaded and istalled safari 3.
This morning, i did leave safari with an stage6 page trying to load a video i have some time trying to download, and well, at the same time, i started an ichat video conference, and thats the only things i had opened, ichat, safari 3 and mail, and when i was in the conference, as much as 1 min, whole osx hanged, and the only solution was shut down the machine.. But here's the thing, in the other side conferece, my friend said the camera video was working fine, he saw me and heared me yelling... Also, i never had iChat Video Conference problems.. These things started and happen only with divx web player, on safari and firefox. This is happening on my box wich is a macbook pro core duo 2.16, 2gb ram running OSX 10.4.10.

We just can't seek! Anyone able to help out with documentation about how the stage6 and all .divx files are seeked?

A reply to this or to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354856 would be very helpful!

For the record, making totem work should help not only Ubuntu, but Fedora, OpenSolaris, and everyone else that uses Gnome. I only said Ubuntu because it's what I use and it's hip. :)

I think I NOW understand what Divx is doing

For those who were early implementors of the Divx Web Player, like myself, and want to use Divx as their Video player of choice for their own web sites, you might have noticed a drastic change of strategy.
For one thing, all references are made only to Stage 6, and Divx has stopped promoting the Web Player as the vehicle for streaming Video from web sites.
There have been several upgrades/enhancements in the Divx Software bundle, Except for the Divx Web Player Web Player version 3.1 is still included, as all of the other Divx products have been upgraded several times.

Just look at the comment about Beta 2, "Once again, grab Beta 2, install it and head over to Stage6 for some testing." Just Stage 6.

The Web Player has become much less reliable than the early versions of the Web Player, to the point that earlier Divx videos posted on web sites, that used to work, no longer work, or work occasionally.

Questions about streaming video aren't answered anymore from the Divx support forum or from email or phone tech support. Heck the Divx Web Player doesn't even have its own category on the Divx Support Forum.
Divx support told me flat out and more than once, that they know that the Web Player doesn't work and have no idea when it will be fixed.

When streaming video is referred to by Divx, since 1.3x came out, has only been about usage with Stage6 stored Divx files.

This is my opinion,
I think Divx has abandon the Divx Web Player altogether as a solution for streaming video except for Stage6 stored videos.

Instead of the Divx Web Player product development, I believe that Divx is now focused on a new product that doesn't have much in the way of details yet, DivX Connected.

It just doesn't make sense for Divx to leave the major gap of not having a stable and reliable streaming Video solution. Then when I saw the "teaser" about Divx Connected, it now makes sense to me.
I think it is a marketing decision, that certainly I am in no position to judge.

Anyone's thoughts ??

one more minor bug

If you press either the "Preferences" / "General" / "Download video files to:" button or the "Preferences" / "Download Cache" / "Open Cache Folder" button, a new pane opens and the focus moves to it, but the greyed-out Preferences pane remains in the foreground obstructing the view.

DivX Web Player 1.4.0 Beta 2, Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.7) Gecko/20070914 Firefox/2.0.0.7

distractme's picture

mostly works, some bugs & wishes

1.4.0 (b2) is the first version that ever worked for me also, displaying "Connecting..." instead of "Video file not loaded" (or something). I have an Intel Mac running OS X 10.4.10, Firefox 2.0.0.7, and 864 kb/s DSL.

I have been able to make Firefox crash a couple of times, usually by repeatedly manipulating Web Player controls such as the fullscreen button and the video position slider, but it's not consistent.

One bug that is consistent is in full screen mode, when you click on the screen to bring up the controls pane and then drag the controls pane, it bounces between the expected position and the upper left hand corner of the screen (position 0,0?), and also ceases to allow any controls to be operated. Fortunately the pane can still be dismissed, and when subseqently brought back, operates normally once again.

Are there keyboard equivalents for the controls in full-screen mode? Most useful to me would be a single-stroke way to pause playback without having to first bring up the controls pane, which is too intrusive to leave up all the time.

What controls the size for "Buffering 100%"? Most useful to me would be if it were computed from the download rate and the file size such that the playback would not catch up to the download (in the case where download is slower).

Is there a way to make the Web Player preference pane appear without Firefox having to begin downloading a video file first?

Thanks.

This Beta is the ONLY (yes only!) version of the Web Player which works for me. Any older version just doesnt work. whenever i try to watch a video on stage6 with any older version a window at the bottom comes up saying "cannot play video" or something like that. The only problem is whenever i turn off my computer and turn it on again next time i want to use it i have to reinstall it because stage6 says its not installed! Can someone help me please.

Problem

I have the beta 1.4.0 and it works well, but when I watch a video the streaming seems to be slow. Also I try the version 1.3.1 and the streaming is faster en fluid, but this version crash and restart my computer after playing some minutes so I can't see full movies. Why? What can I do to play videos faster with 1.4.0 like 1.3.1 does? =(

The same problem happens on Firefox 2.0.0.5 and IE7

I use Windows XP SP2, AMD Duron 1.10 Ghz, 256 RAM

Problem solved

Hi,

blank screen problems on stage6.com started for me today with downloading the new update, tried pretty much everything from reinstalling to removing plugin - files in the firefox directory and the registry by hand and many other stuff, nothing helped.

got the divx bundle v. 6.5.1 from http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=divx , got the old player now but it works flawless.

hope this helps someone out there ;)

cheers

ps: imo it's a shame that there's not even the possibility to downgrade to a previous version from the official side, knowing about all the problems with the current one.

Does anyone have the 1.3.1 installer?

so 1.4.0.whatever pretty much sucks. How can you miss testing a feature like that anyway? (I am refering the error 404 thingy everyone else is complaining about)

Now.. I wouldn't give a crap about this if you had 1.3.1 lying around on your site. oh and by the way, your wonderful website says "download here for 1.3.1" and its not 1.3.1.. its the piece of crap you call 1.4.1 .. so yeah fix it or post a link to 1.3.1. (The "legacy" FAQ doesn't have this file either.. all it has is the DivX 5.0.5 with NO web player which is pretty much useless)

Again... why the hell dont you have it on your website!!?? go look at software on source forge. You will see that you can get any version of the software you want. How arrogant is that? "Oh 1.4.1 is SO much better... who will need 1.3.1 anymore?"

ridiculous!

I am getting the same error

I am getting the same error as megamanxshopz "the video cannot be found (404 error) it appears to have been removed from the server,

i tried it with the old web player and the video can be found...

i have switched to this beta version due to problems with the older version of web player with vista because it would play a video for 20 mins then it would give me a blue screen of death and i would have to restart, this is on 64 bit vista

but its good that this version supports 64 bit, though i wish i did not recieve "this video cannot be found", this has happened to multiple maybe about 30 videos

quaydvt's picture

error 403 and 1.4.0

I have a similar problem - but it finds the video - just won't access it - I have Error 403.

I reinstalled the original 1.3.1 which I fortunately still had on my computer and have no trouble - my problem is all 30 of my new students coming on-line in September who won't have the old version and will need webplayer to view the video clips I have created in webCT (50+ of them!) and will get the 1.4.0 piece of junk instead. I don't care about Stage 6, I don't watch blogs, or youtube or anything - I want this for my college courses and it is now as useless as "you know what" on a bull.

I want to get a download of 1.3.1 for them, not the whole Divx package - just the webplayer and the Divx player, but don't know which version of the Divx download will get me the working version of webplayer.

Any suggestions? I went to "oldversions" link but have no idea which of the downloads will get me what I need.

Addendum - did download the 6.5 version of dvix from "oldversions" but would really like to be able to pass on only the webplayer, not the converter etc etc etc.

Long loading times for videos

This version of the web player successfully let me view videos on Stage6 and other sites. However, there are a few problems. Upon loading the video, my browser (firefox) freezes for about 30 sec - 1 min, and it doesn't let me do anything else. I used to have an older version of the web player before I formatted my computer -- unfortunately, I don't remember the version number -- but I remember that player being very quick. As soon as I clicked play, it said connecting, quickly buffered, and began playing. Now, it takes a minimum of 30 sec to even began buffering. How can I fix this?

Lost functionality since update to beta... Bug?

Hi everyone,

i don't know, if this is the right place to mention it, but since i don't know any better one i'll just post it right here.
I have - from my point of view - a possibly unusual, yet promising setting over here. I use a FritzBox ADSL-Router/Modem, which supports connection of an USB-harddrive, that can be accessed via ftp by all computers within the network, e.g. me and my brother living next door both have WLAN access to the files on this disk as long as we're connected to the router.
Cool thing is, as long as i rename all videos stored on the external drive to .divx files, we get an instantly starting, buffering-free streaming of my videos right in the browser window - more or less a vod-at-home solution. If i had more upload bandwidth at hand (let time go by a bit further) i could litterally have my own vod-access from any computer running the divx-plugin,e.g. friends etc. via the ftp-function and a dyn-dns setting.
While this has been and is working perfectly with versions up to 1.3, the 1.4beta1 and 2 versions just keep showing "Connecting..." the whole time and can't be forced to start playing by pressing the play-button, despite the fact, that - if caching is enabled - you can notice an size-increasing file in the cache-folder, meaning that the download in fact already runs, rendering that "Connecting..." message total nonsense.
I was hoping, to make use of your player in the future and am just wondering, whether this is a bug or you dropped this functionality on purpose...

Regards,
V.

FTP download

You may be right. In 1.4 we redesigned and completely rewrote the download engine, so we may have broken something in the FTP support. It's definitely not intended. I will do some testing and see what I find.

Valentine's picture

... and just another thing i noticed...

I have ac3filter v1.11 installed on my system, mainly to detect and perform passthroughs of ac3 and dts streams to my surround-system. Apart from amplifying the general level a bit it's just shoving everything off on to my decoder via the spdif-out. While this setting works perfectly with all other players i use, playing files containing ac3 audio-streams with the webplayer creates deafening static.
I played around a bit and found out, that i can solve this by using the ac3filter built-in option to restrict spdif-sample rates to 44khz instead of the original 48khz.
By doing so, audio is crisp clear again but drops down to normal stereo sound, making this rather a workaround than a solution to the problem.
As mentioned, no problems occur playing files with exactly the same settings in offline players, so i suppose it's something in the plugin causing this problem...

Thanks in advance,

V.

I am totally puzzled - Web Player is for Stage 6 ONLY ??

I downloaded and installed DivX Web Player 1.4.0 Beta 2.

I first found it odd that the instructions after downloading was to head over to Stage6 for some testing..
Why the recommendation to "test" on Stage 6 ????

I have to ask again if the Divx Web Player is NOT meant for web developers, but will Only work with Divx video uploaded to Stage 6

I personally don't think that testing the Divx Web Player in a controlled environment like Stage 6 is a test at all, except for Stage 6 users.

The video that I posted in the prior forum (I don't feel like reposting it, from the 1.4.0 Beta 1 comments, showed that my video worked perfectly in Stage 6, but had mountains of problems when executed from my Web Site, where I called the video from the a created with the HTML created by the DivX Web Player Code Generator .

Am I wasting my time expecting the Divx Web Player to work from my web site ?

I did try my video with this version Beta 2, and it is totally unusable.
The video froze after 11 minutes, I got the usual de-pixilization, it took several minutes to start while it was buffering and saw it count from 1 to 100.

I for one saw virtually no progress from the Beta 1 and see no progress from Beta 2 as far as using the Divx Web Player outside of Stage 6, as it was initially intended and when it worked great.

PLEASE let me know if the web player is no only a Stage 6 product and for developers, who want to incorporate Divx video on their own sites, need to tell their customers to download the Divx video and run it locally on Windows Divx Player ?

On a response I received from customer supoprt on this issue today, I received a "canned" response from them. Divx Support basically is throwing their hands up and are refusing to support the Divx Web Player

Here is the second of these canned comments I ahve received from Divx support, when I asked about problems regarding the Divx Web Player.

Hello John,
Thank you for contacting DivX!!
I have read your post and have answered your emails. Unfortunately I don't know when the web player will be fixed. What I can tell you is that we do listen to our customers, but you have to realize that fixes take time.
Let me know if you would like to discuss this further
Regards,
DivX Support

The part of the canned response from Divx Support that gets me is this one Unfortunately I don't know when the web player will be fixed.
If Divx support doesn't know when the Divx Web Player will be fixed, then certainly I don't know. But Divx listens to their customers ? I get the impression that Divx Support is wiping their hands of the Divx Web Player.
I asked if there were workarounds, and some other specific questions.

Thanks,

Jon T

By the way...

Some suggestions:

- We put in the Labs post the link to Stage6 to go test this build because this is where there is the most DivX content to test with at this point, not because the web player only works with Stage6... not every DivX Labs user is a webmaster with a setup to test the web player on its own.

- Also, the "de-pixelisation" issues you are talking about (I had a hard time understanding what you meant but I think I do now) are most likely caused by the file on the web server containing errors...Forgive me to ask this simple question but, are you sure your files are uploaded correctly to your server ? Could there be tranfer issues ? Could you be uploading with FTP in ASCII mode (you need binary mode for binary files like video files) ?

If your video worked great on Stage6 were the upload is handed by Stage6, I can only see the upload as being the source of the problem. The video freezing is another sign that the file might be invalid - on the web server.

Let me know,
Cheers,

Hey

Jon,

Do you have an account on the DivX forums or on Stage6 ? Let me know what your account name is and I will send you a private message so we can troubleshoot your issues.

The web player is DEFINITELY supposed to be working just fine outside of Stage6 as well, and usually does. I do not know yet what is wrong in your setup or if there is a web player bug, but I will help you find out. Just let me know how I can contact you and we'll look at this.

Troubleshoot issues

Roy204,

Thanks very much for your interest.

I have accounts in both the forums and Stage 6.

In the Divx Forums, my account is: jolo100

On Stage 6, my account is: jolo

It will be great to work together !!

I am pretty certain about web player issues because,

*That is what Divx support thinks
*Getting comments on how my videos don't work anymore
*My originally posted videos that won't play anymore as well
*Other comments on the forum and on Stage 6 that echo my experience
    * The hours I spent re-encoding and re-uploading my videos
*I certainly am not any type of web expert. I have been looking and waiting for product to post compressed video on a web site, quickly and easily and I went "ga-ga" when the Divx Web Player was released.

I wonder if I can get an an older version of the Divx Web Player to install ?

I like STAGE 6 a lot !! Justl ike anything else, it is not the answer for everything. I want to post videos to my private web site, which STAGE 6 would not be appropriate. The only reason that I posted the last videos to STAGE 6, was to test how they looked on STAGE 6. I was not surprised at all when the videos played perfectly on STAGE 6. Lile I mentioned, I have read some comments from some STAGE 6 users on how their videos work on STAGE 6 and don't work anymore on their web site.
