need help motorola Q

I really like the player so far but I have one problem. I have to rotate my Q counter clockwise 90 degrees to view the video.
What can I do to fix this?

DivXMobile's picture

Screen orientation for Motorola Q

Due to a quirk in the design of the Motorola Q phone, the screen orientation is different than all other Windows Mobile Smartphones. It's been a known issue for a while now, but we don't have a simple solution yet. It's annoying but still usable.

I cannot install any codec

I cannot install any codec on my nokia N73, it says not supported!!!
Anyone has any idea about this problem.

DivXMobile's picture

Out of Memory?

If you see the "no supported codec" error message, it might be due to insufficient memory (RAM). Make sure there are no other applications running and try a small video file.

0.88 on Nokia E90

I just downloaded 0.88 and am now testing it. I downloaded a movie to my Nokia E90 with the following specs:
464*272 pixels
110kbps audio bitrate
mp3 audio
25 frames/sec
94kbps data raid
xvid format
and I can tell that the phone/software is not entirely able to process this propperly. Both sound and image pause constantely. So I will try with lower quality tomorrow. With this phone I hoped not to have to go trough conversion programms etc as they are never comfortable and memory is starting to become cheap. But I have goed hopes as I have the feeling that if the video is adapted to the phones screen resolution everything will be more then fine.

Update 1: If I close all other programs the video is almost smooth and the quality looks superb with this player/phone combination.

Update 2: I found out that the sceen can take 800 x 352 pixels so it will be a bit of a challenge :-)

Softbank N73 Cerificate Error

Hi! Tried to install 0.88 of your app on a Japanese Softbank Nokia N73. I get:

"Certificate Error! Contact the application supplier."

I have tried all the available settings on the Applications/Settings certificates menu (On, Off, Must Be Passed), but nothing changes.

How can I install?

Thanks.

DivXMobile's picture

Unsigned

I'm sorry, but it sounds like the Japanese Softbank Nokia N73 won't allow you to install an unsigned application like the DivX Mobile Player.

Palm OS / Garnet OS version

What exactly is meant by "DivX Mobile Player for Palm OS (Garnet) is planned to be discontinued" -- is this because there are already other good, stable DivX players out for Palm OS or is there some reason you'd leave millions of Treo owners out of your plans? Palm sold 750,000 Treos last _quarter_ -- is that not a big enough market for you folks?!?

DivXMobile's picture

Palm Garnet OS

I have a Treo 650 at home and I hear you. However, DivX has limited resources and Palm themselves appear to be moving Treos away from Garnet in favor of Linux and Windows Mobile. We will probably follow their lead.

craigf's picture

Move to Linux won't happen overnight

There are millions of Garnet-based Treos that will be around for many years. The Linux-based Palms (Treos, etc.) aren't slated to go on sale until mid-2008 at the earliest, and even then, they won't fully supplant Garnet-based devices for at least a year after _that_. So, you're cutting off millions of current smartphone users simply because something might start cutting into that OS _two_ years from now? Yeesh.

iPhone

Since the iPhone runs on the Mac OS can I download the regular software. ALL of my friend are asking me these questions to decide if they should buy the iPhone so they can use stage6 anywhere.

DivXMobile's picture

iPhone is closed

As far as I know, Apple/AT&T do not allow any third party software on the iPhone other than Safari widgets. Unfortunately, we can't make a video player in a widget. Please write to Apple and tell them you'll only buy DivX certified phones.

Some Feedback

Hey,
I haven't really tried out any other mobile DivX players, but this one works pretty well on my Nokia N95, though for some reason the video playback gets choppy in some scenes of the avi I'm testing. (XviD, 704x396, 895.2kbps, 23.976fps, though I think the ridiculously high resolution plays a role in the problem)
However, despite that, it works very nicely.
Just a question-- when you say it'll expire on the 1st of October, does that mean the program will no longer work on that day and I'd need to update?
Also, once DivX Mobile Player's out of beta, will it be freeware or available for a price?
Thanks.

recommended settings

I would suggest resizing your videos to 320x240 at 250kbs video and 96kbps audio.

Hopefully, when DMP expires, there will be a new version for you to download.

markr041's picture

resizing

I do not understand these resizing suggestions. Maybe 320x240 @ 250kbs looks ok on the N95, but I know for sure that MP3's at 96kbps sound really bad on any player through any decent headphones. Why are you recommending this? And should we trust your recommendation on the video given your low standardson the audio. Certainly the Nokia is capable of playing audio at much higher bit rates with more complex codecs than MP3. Does your recommndation reflect the limits of the Divx mobile player? The Nokia player can play bit rates for audio and video much higher than you recommend (for MP4's with aac obviously).

The Nokia also can output to a TV, so it could be desirable to have high bit-rate video (and audio). What we need to know is not some minimum based on your subjective standards, but the maximum that the Divx mobile player can play smoothly on the N95.

Can I use divx to play music

Can I use divx mobile to play music or is it only for videos?

DivXMobile's picture

audio only

DivX Player will only play .divx and .avi videos. However, you could make AVI files with a blank video if you really wanted to.

Installation

I have a T-Mobile Dash, and the SmartPhone download gives me only a CAB, and no executable. I can't find any way to install this.

DivXMobile's picture

Installing CABs

The CAB file is an executable. Copy the CAB file to your device (or download it straight to your device) then "run" it. Use Windows Mobile File Explorer to find the CAB and open it.

Alternatively, go to http://mobile.divx.com/big and download the Smartphone ZIP file. Inside the ZIP is a Windows EXE file that will install the CAB on to your phone through ActiveSync.
