DivX 6.5 Beta Converter & Windows Vista(TM)
Awaited with anticipation - finally the Converter beta for Windows Vista has arrived.
I installed it and immediately wanted to test it - to my suprise, when clicking on the DivX Converter icon created by the installation routine on the desktop DivX Converter still comes up with the DivX Windows Vista Stub - "This version of DivX Converter does not yet support Microsoft Windows Vista - bla blabla".
Well, as I am not easily taken off a path that I want to walk, I start the program directly out of "Program Files-DivX-Converter". It starts up and analyses the VOB file I want to convert. However, when it starts converting it, the program simply crashes.
There are two problems here:
a) does the installation actually work? I doubt it.
b) the new 6.5 beta seems to have the same problem as the 6.4 converter when bypassing the Vista Stub.
Anyone with similar experiences or is it just a PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair)?
Thanks, Pete

This is just a message you get because it is a beta and conflicts with our standard divx.com release of converter. So, I would say a bug in the installer with auto update.
Install the vista version, by clicking no on that message. The vista version is the newest build and also works on xp/2k
hello there!!!
ok, i habve downloaded the divx beta 5.6 for the vista one ok??now the ....i clicked 'no' as you and a couple of others on this forum had recommended and i have the programe up and running on my laptop. now then.....i store the dvd onto my hard drive using dvd shrink. once thats done i open the vob files and drag them into the converter box. i then click convert and it does so unitl it is 50% converted, at which point it just stops saying that 0 files have been converted from 1 files......

I am having problems encoding files to divx and the mpeg2 plug in why can't I go from divx to mpeg2? I got the update to divx pro 6.6 , went back to 6.5 beta and still issues running the program in Vista.
Help please anyone???

I am working on 2 PC, one under XP32 Pro and the other one with Vista32 Ultimate. The first one is doing his job quite well, but for the second one, I am still hoping stuff will work in a not so far future (like Windows Media Center...).
I don't have installed the beta version of the DivX Converter, because it detects that a newer version is available. As I want to keep the latest version of the codec, I don't go further.
For the moment, I am working with VirtualDub or VirtualDub-mpeg2 and the latest DivX codec. There is actually no problem at all under Vista.
