DIY - Channel Feed Plug-in
Wed, 04/09/2008 - 14:33
PRE-REQUISITES:
- Videos in DivX format
- To get your video in DivX format, you can use DivX Converter or Dr. DivX OSS.
- Videos hosted on remote server
- Upload your videos to your personal host (remember bandwidth), or consider using Blip.tv.
- A hosted RSS Feed with videos as enclosures
- If you're new to making RSS feeds, consider using a generator like http://www.podcastblaster.com/podcast-feed/ to help (sample listed below). If you're using Blip.tv to host your videos, it will make and host an RSS feed for you.
CREATING THE PLUG-IN:
- Create a background
- Using your favorite graphic design app (Photoshop, Gimp...), create a JPG at 1280x720.
- Consider that your plug-in will be displayed on large TVs, so stay away from really bright (e.g. white) backgrounds that will light up a dark room.
- Upload your background to your server or favorite image hosting services (e.g. Photobucket, etc.).
- Sample: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d121/porfitron/DivX/bg_black-blue.jpg
- Create your icon
- In your graphic design app, create a 32x32 PNG icon. This is what will display before the title in the Connected user interface (UI).
- Upload your icon to your server or image hosting service.
- Sample: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d121/porfitron/DivX/rss-icon.png
- Build the ZPI
- Go to http://mydivxconnected.com/pMaker/ and input the information.
- Pick the complimentary colors to the background your created. Sample layout: http://mydivxconnected.com/pMaker/images/colorexplain.png
- Download the ZPI (right click, save as...) so you can upload it for later distribution.
- Install the plug-in
- Double-click the ZPI to install it on the Connected server.
- If you're happy with the plug-in, proceed to step 5.
- If your plug-in needs edits, check your email for the log-in information to edit your plug-in, and return to http://mydivxconnected.com/pMaker/.
- Share your plug-in
- If you own the rights or have permission to distribute the video content of your plug-in, consider sharing it on labs.divx.com. Create a labs account, and add plug-ins by choosing Create Content from your user control panel.
- Once uploaded, you'll find your plug-in publicly available on http://labs.divx.com/connected/plugins
