0.9 build for Windows Mobile 6 Professional seems a bit flaky

0.9 build for Windows Mobile 6 Professional seems a bit flaky

Yesterday I downloaded the latest build of the DivX Player and installed on my MDA Vario III (HTC Tytn II) and it seemed at first to play the movies more smoothly (although maybe this is my imagination). However I discovered a few issues with it. Firstly when watching in full screen mode I clicked the right soft key and DivX player terminates completely. On 0.89 clicking the soft key switched to non-Full screen mode and displayed the menu choices.

When the player is closed either gracefully or not (as described above) it seems to leave artifacts on the title bar of the screen. In the title bar there are bits left behind which don't go away until some other app redraws that part of the screen. This isn't a major problem but it didn't do it on 0.89. Also on one occasion I was playing a movie and bits of white kept flickering roughly where the windows title bar appears when the phone is in normal use.

I haven't had the problem with large files though. I played a 400Mb movie without a hitch other than it crashing when I pressed the right soft key.

Yes, this is by design. However, it does seem confusing so we will probably use the right soft key exit full screen mode in the next release. In the meantime, I'd recommend using the left soft key to exit full screen mode.

We have seen this as well and we are working to clean up the handling of the title bar.

The title bar problems arise if DMP is pushed into the background and then returned to the foreground. If you exit DMP, then restart it, the flickering should cease (until you push it to the background again). The best advice here is to always quit DMP using the menu option rather than switching away to another screen and returning to DMP later.

Bookmarks don't seem to work either

I was watching a movie yesterday and had to stop it so I clicked left soft key to return to non-full screen and then pause followed by quit. When I came back to watch the video again it started from the beginning. In 0.89 it would automatically save where you were up to and give you the choice of resuming the next time you watched it. Maybe you have to do something different with 0.90 but the way it worked in 0.89 was better in my view. One thing I noticed that the videos I watched in 0.89 before upgrading to 0.9 did give me the option of resuming when I played them in 0.9 but always from the point I got to in 0.89. I think the bug is that 0.9 doesn't create/update the bookmark files automatically.
I also noticed that when I pressed pause and then selected quit from the menu, the video started playing for a split second before closing the player.
I've now switched back to 0.89 and can confirm that the picture quality is smoother on 0.9. However all the bugs with the new release are definitely absent in the 0.89 release so I shall stick with it until a better version comes out.

Cheers,

Ashley

DMP will prompt you to resume where you left off if the "Playback option" is set to "Single". However, in the "Next file" or "Repeat" mode DMP does not offer resume prompts which would defeat the usefulness of those playback modes.

This is the same in 0.89. Change your playback mode to "Single" and the bookmarking feature should work.

Yes, we have seen this quirk as well and will address it in the next release.
