Server 1.3 is now available for download

DivX Connected Server 1.3 is now available as a manual update. It will be available soon as an auto-update, but we thought we'd give you all the chance to try it out early :) You can get it from here:

http://labs.divx.com/ConnectedDownload

If you have any feedback, feel free to leave some comments in this thread.

What are some of the cool new features in this release?

Well for starters, there is a new database structure. Scanning and re-scanning should be much faster than before. There's also support for BMP and PNG, picture rotating, and more. Check out the full release notes here:

XP SP2 crashing - Rolled back to previous version

Although the thumbnailing seemed to be faster, the new version of the server gave me choppy video and hanged several times, and the remote wont respond save the on-off button.
Rolled back to the previous version, works OK now.
OS Xp SP2 , about 100 divx movies, and several thousand mp3's
core2duo 2.66, 2gb RAM , radeon x1650, media on external USB hdd.

server 1.3 stop working

Hi,
On my PC running Vista the server software doesn't even start the scanning of files. The server attempts to start then the system comes up the message "connected server has stopped and needs to close" and thats as far as it gets.

Using 1.2 it runs without a hitch..

[url=http://]I'm running

[url=http://]I'm running both Vista an 1.3 without problems....maybe you should try uninstalling 1.2. After that installing 1.3 fresh (*worked with previous upgrades)

Server 1.3 Not Working

Hi,
I have installed 1.3 as an auto update, but it keeps crashing. I have had to go back to previous version 1.20 version 48 which is fine.
I am using Windows Vista...

Server 1.3 Not Working

Crashes on Vista here too with v1.3.

Mine is specific to *.Mpg video files (encoded in mpeg-1 and played fine in v1.2). If I play an MPEG file I cannot stop it once it's started (either with stop or the back button) this happens with 4 out of 5 mpegs I try.

The vid just carries on playing for a bit then loclks up and the server is 'frozen' and has to be killed with end-task.

Anyone else have this problem?

Back to 1.2 :(

Regards,
Olywa

Same problem here with XP

Same problem here with XP SP3.
During scanning of a very large MP3 directory the 1.3 Server crashs. Deleting the directory where the crashs happens (last one I see in the status bar of the server) doesn't change anything. Server keeps crashing by scanning the next directory (after a restart).
Reverting back to 1.2b48 - all ok!
All videos files were scanned with no problem.

Same issue

Same issue for me on windows XP. Roll back on the 1.2

Regards,
Ben

Pareil

As mentionned earlier (http://labs.divx.com/node/6582), the crash of 1.3 server occurs during the scanning process and seems related to the number of records to add to the database rather than the size of the directory scanned. For exemple, more than 700 avi files representing more than 200 Go were scanned correctly but it could not handle the 14 Go directory containing more than 3000 MP3s.
It never happened with 1.2 release 48.

confirmed number of files

confirmed
number of files and not size seems to be the problem
never happend with 1.2b48

1.3 Server crashes with high number of files

Same problem with 1.3.0 Build 46

Photo Rotation

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

If the system detects the photo direction automatically, why does it show the thumbnail a different way up to the full size picture?
I use Picasa and this takes the exif data and then suggests resaving the image the correct way round, I guess this then discards the oringial exif rotational data.

I wonder if the divx server thumbnailed the pictures and then picasa resaved them the other way round.
Would this explain why the thumbnails are a sifferent way round to the full size picture?

I keep getting a blue/green

I keep getting a blue/green tinged screen when I start Connected.
It's worse on this new version. I used to turn the box on and off then it was okay. Now it doesn't seem to go. I now have to stop and start the connected server to get the proper colours back.
My friend has the same problem. I am in London so I have a pal lcd tv. I use the hdmi cable. My friend used the scart cable.

Installation problem of 1.3 server

I posted my installation problem of 1.3 server in the french forum

Photo Problem

Hi,
I've downloaded the new server software 1.3 and noticed that a number of my photos now display the wong round. The thumbnail view is fine, but when you select a photo it turns a portrait photo into a landscape view.

Seems a shame that this problem has crept in. It seemed to work fine on version 1.2.

As a passing comment on the new release, I guess the lack of additional useful features is down to the upgrade of the database structure on this release. I am really looking forward to some useful additional features!
One other thing, is there an unoffical/official download/fix yet for the widescreen pal problem that has been mentioned on this forum quite a few times??

Thanks.

Server 1.3 New Features

Directions on how to use some of the new features have been posted here:

http://labs.divx.com/node/6616

This includes rotating photos, new photo options, stacks, and A/V sync controls.

Are they rotating automatically?

The new version detects exif data and rotates automatically. You can change the rotation by pressing the enter key while viewing the photo repeatedly unitl the oritntaion is correct. It will then remember automatically. You may have accidentlly done this previously.

If you can attach one the photos that used to be OK but now is not, we can see if it is an issue with the exif data.

zoom

The advance audio sync feature works well. Nice feature.

Is there going to be a zoom feature to allow some small videos to fill the screen?

Extend Ambient Extras

The Ambient Extras are a much needed feature but as a screen saver option. This would be much better than the current blank screen, screen saver.

You could extend this by allowing users to set, create or place their own videos into a folder so they can select them as their own ambient screen saver.

Playing a 10 minute screen saver type video directly from the web is not cool. The videos need to be installed locally.

If you had an online repository which allowed users to upload their own video ambient creations then Connected could display them almost like stage 6 but for screen savers and plug-ins.
A user could see an image, description and download the ambient creation video. A user can then decide to set that video as their screen saver.

Ambient Creations could be set as an automatically playable screen saver option, that can be configured from the current services catagory.

The videos are cached and can be downloaded as well

They will only download from the internet once.

What about Remoulade

What about Remoulade compatibility?

Rémoulade

Rémoulade does work with version 1.3. So you can now use the config on http://www.kamiwa.de. But please bear in mind, that Rémoulade is in early Beta stage. I personally had six videos here, which made the decoder and - as a follow up - Connected server crash.

v1.3 Crashes

Hi Kamiwa,
you say you had the decoder/server crash using Rémoulade vids - can I ask what happened? I've recently done a complete rebuild of my vista machine and installed fresh codecs and connected 1.3 following your guide and using your latest all-in-one (thank you :)) but I have had a lot of crashes. Basically the remote stops responding then and after ~30 seconds the vid just freezes on screen when exiting playback with the 'back' button. I go to my PC and Server 1.3 has locked up and has to be killed and restarted.

Is this what you are experiencing? Only i'm not using any Rémoulade vids, this happens consistently (4 out of 5 times) for me with almost all of my mpeg1 files, I can watch them fine but when I use the back button it dies. This doesn't seem to affect avi's or other formats.

Anyone else having any problems with crashes on v1.3 ??

Thanks a lot,
Olywa

One other thing Kamiwa, I have not been able to get ogg auido files to show up with your config file, oddly they show if I add them to my videos -but you can't play them from there- but they won't show if I add them to my music - any thoughts? Thanks again.

Crashes with Rémoulade

Rémoulade crashes happened here during scanning. And the crashes were completed crashes, meaning Connected server quit with error message.

About your OGG problem: No idea what it is, but I reported it to one of the DivX Connected devels.

Any progress toward MKV support?

With all the new developments (very exciting!) - Is there any progress toward official in-built server support for MKV files for HD, I ask becasue I've tried and failed many, many times with various methods and guides to 'hack' the system in order for this format to be recognised. Big up to the DivX team for their dedication to the cause by the way...

MKV Support

Matroska is a container format. So what kind of support do you need?

Matroska with DivX Video and MP3 Audio?
Matroska with DivX Video and AC3 Audio?
Matroska with XviD Video and MP3 Audio?
Matroska with XviD Video and AC3 Audio?
Matroska with AVC Video and AAC Audio?
Matroska with AVC Video and AC3 Audio?
Matroska with AVC Video and MP3 Audio?
Matroska with AVC Video and Vorbis Audio?
Matroska with Theora Video and Vorbis Audio?
..............

With or without subtitles? SRT? SAA? XSUB?
Chapter points? Attachments?

So when your asking for inbuilt Matroska support, you're really asking for a system, which supports each and every video, audio and subtitle format currently on the market, wrapped into the Matroska container. And honestly, I don't see this happen!

Which combinations are more compatible?

First of all, I think I echo the thoughts of many in voicing my great appreciation for your efforts and vision kamiwa, many thanks. Which of the above combinations have you specifically aimed for your DivX connected plugin (all in one package)? I'm downloading a variety of mkv files (one being H264,mp3 & another x264, aac) - can I anticipate success with these formats? Many thanks.

MKV Support

I actually think that the multitude of different video and audio codecs and different container formats was the reason why DivX choose to add multi format support to DivX Connected via the DirectShow plugin.

Using the DirectShow plugin in theory enables you to utilize any DirectShow codec installed on your system.

The config file in conjunction with ffdshow, Haali Splitter and the flash codec currently included in the All-In-One package should add support for all container formats supported by Haali splitter and for all audio and video codecs supported through ffdshow. That should be about 90% off the stuff that you can find out in the wild.

Suggest you give it a shot! Simply install the stuff included in the package, use the reg-files (simply double-click them) to configure ffdshow, reboot your pc and do a rescan of your video and audio folders and see what you get. If your files won't show up, simply come back here or post at www.kamiwa.de or www.connunity.com. I'll be around to assist, as usual.

Thanks for the kudos, btw.

Thrilled...

Hi Kamiwa, I downloaded & installed your all in one pack prior to my post and installed the reg-files, I really think these made the difference as I had only previously installed similar reg files using reg software. Anyhow, low & behold to my genuine surprise BOTH files worked! Absolutely thrilled... I would recommed your all in one pack to anyone who has been struggling to get MKV recognised like me, I hope you don't mind me posting the link: http://www.kamiwa.de/userfiles/file/AllInOne.rar (please correct if any discrepancy). Thanks for all your help, this has just opened a whole new world of HD for me. Cheers, Mike.

HOORAY!

Glad to hear it works for you!
