Hi not sure if anyone out there can help, but I would love to see a plugin for Connected that could shut down your PC. I run the box in another room and after watching a film it would be great if you could shut down the PC without having to get up and go to another room.

Well done porfitron that was

Well done porfitron that was quick work. Many thanks.

Only thing I do not understand is why the need to use a 3rd party application when I know I can remote desktop onto my PC at work and restart it or close it down by using variations of

shutdown -r
shutdown -s

from a DOS prompt. Is it not possible to call these commands from a plugin?

Official Feature

There will eventually be an official shutdown feature that's part of the DivX Connected Server, so if you can wait, that'll be the best answer. DOS commands would be something executed more at the core application layer, which users of the SDK do not have access to. Plug-in's initiate commands through network services. So for now, I threw this plug-in together, since someone mentioned they were already using this app.

RE Shutdown

I have been using the perfect solution for years.

It is a program called Switch Off which allows you to schedule the computer to switch off at a scheduled time each day.

Initially I used it to save energy (and money) but now it works great for being able to watch films and letting the computer switch itself off whilst i'm sleeping.

It can be downloaded for free from www.download.com

Hope this helps all..

Switch Off Plug-in

Great information, BlueBolt. I was able to make a DivX Connected Plug-in that communicates with Switch Off and allows you to shutdown the PC!!!

You can get it here: http://labs.divx.com/node/6604

I posted it as BETA because there is room for improvements.

YOU MUST BE RUNNING SERVER 1.3 FOR THIS TO WORK!!!

Thanks for the great ideas... this just proves that even if the core software doesn't have all the features you need, a plug-in can fill in the gaps ;-)

Amazing

It only blooming works :-)

If only I had your expertise. Like you say, a few improvements needed but already 75% there.

Couple of suggestions in additon to those you've made.

1) To enter the ip address you can currently use the numbers on the remote control however the . (dot) button does not work. Can this be fixed to save needing to use the onscreen keyboard.

2) As your so clever, can you build a plugin to turn the box off at a scheduled time as I always fall asleep listening to music and the box remians on 24/7 at the moment

Keep up the great work. I'm impressed.

Default is now localhost

Ncochon had the great idea of setting the default IP to localhost. I've updated the plug-in. Now, you only need to input an IP if you're planning on shutting off a different PC on your network or need to change the port.

I'm not done quite yet, so I'll leave it in beta, since I think the interface needs more work, and there are still more features from Switch Off I'd like to communicate with.
