Remotes.....again!
I have just taken delivery of my second (replacement) DSM-330 from Amazon. The first suffered from just about all the problems experienced by other forum users, e.g. green (sometimes black)screens, remote not working, menus rippling down the page totally out of control, problems with the wireless connection etc etc. Following receipt of the latest DSM-330 I was able with quite a bit manoeuvring of the remote to install the latest firmware (also installed the latest software for the server in my PC) Now no green screen but the remote is still malfunctioning. I can get it to work (just) by placing it about 2 cm from the unit with my hand over the top of it. The suggestion I saw somewhere that you put a coin in front of the unit in the middle also seemed to help - why I don't know!
I have now spent several hours trying to configure the system to behave as it should. I have spoken to tech support at D-Link who started off with the usual 'have you replaced the batteries?' and have now ended up with ordering me a new remote. It has yet to arrive and I will not be holding my breath!
It does seem that there is some sort of IR conflict going on but what I don't understand is why all my other IR devices all work perfectly well together. My setup is a reasonably good standard system - Sony 40-W3500 LCD TV, Sony DVD Recorder, Onkyo 505 AV Receiver and Humax Freesat HD topbox mostly connected - as is the 330 by HDMI and optical cables. Is this something which is capable of being sorted out by a firmware fix or is it more fundamental than that. I would mention that I have also updated my Nvidia video driver on my PC server but again this should not cause a problem - it has 512 Mb of memory on the card with a Pentium Dual processor and 2GB of memory.
Am I resigned to having to crouch 2 cm from the unit to use it? If so then its going back to Amazon with a suitable posting on their comments page!
Could someone post a step by step checklist for resolving these issues?
It’s a shame because the unit when it works does everything I want from it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Does this happen all the time or just when there is a lot of UV light in the room. Mine has some of the same problems when the sunlight from outside shines on the IR reciever. At night: no problems!
How is your Connected box placed in relation to your TV? Is it below, above? Is the front of the box even with the face of the TV or behind it? What type of lighting do you have in your room? This seems to be cause by some kind of IR interference coming from either the lights, the TV or another source.
I have seen people with the same issue fix it in several ways.
1.) If the front of the box is even with the face of your TV try moving it back farther behind the TV so that it is shielded from the TV screen.
2.) See if the lights in the room could be the issue by turning them off and see if you still have an issue.
3.) Some users have said darker themes help with the issue. You could test it by downloading a theme such as:

These are just suggestions that may or may not work. This issue seems to only affect a small percentage of users.
If you could post your findings that would be helpful.

You've solved it! What a difference 3" makes! I took your advice and moved the unit back 3" and it all burst into life. In case others have a similar setup, my TV is on top of an audio furniture unit comprising a lower shelf where the DVD etc is kept and draws below. Originally I had the DSM-330 flush with the front of the DVD below it and about a foot in front of the TV above. Thanks to Lemur19's help I moved the unit back and the remote works as it should do.
Incidentally I also checked whether the lights being on were an issue but in my case this didn't seem to change things.
Thanks again Lemur19
No UV light doesn't seem to be the problem. The room has a standard lightbulb (needed for the dimmer switch) and I have problems with the remote whether its day or night!
