dsalmonsen, I am following

dsalmonsen,

I am following the instructions to the letter about trying to update the firmware.

I am still on 1.0.0.11 and have tried at least 4 different USB keys and they are all formatted to FAT or FAT32.

I have tried different size keys from 32Mb, 2 x 2G and 1 x 8Gb.

I have reset to factory defaults and tried the workarounds that people have suggested.

I get the "Failure to find update.bin" message.

Is there anything else I can try???

It sounds like you have tried everything

I would suggest that you contact D-Link support in your region. If they can not resolve the issue, you should ask to exchange it for an upgraded device.

As someone has said, one USB

As someone has said, one USB stick wouldn't work another on, both FAT did. Smaller stick worked. may be just coincidence, but try that.

It seems a lot of people

It seems a lot of people have solved this issue. Who has yet to solve the issue of not being able to update firmware? I currently talking with hindsight and I've also sent a PM to Nicox. Is there anyone else?

If you are, for some reason, going to roll BACK to a previous firmare check the size of the file first! If the file is around 4-5 MB...DO NOT use it. Instead PM me and I can provide you with a proper download link.

Finally worked for some reason

hey bristoluk, i had the same problem as you, tried everything that everyone has said to try. even tried 3 different usb sticks that i had a home and they were all FAT or FAT32 formatted. was almost going to give up as i was on the 1.0.0.11 firmware.
however the other day. i thought id give it another go and used another USB stick from my mate, and it worked :) so updated to the recent one and the box is working great.
Sometimes these things just happen. Stick in there and just keep trying different USB sticks.
I first updated to the 1.0.1.30 firmware then once that was done updated to the newest firmware using the same USB stick and all was good :)
just keep playing around with it and it will finally somehow work, happened with me

Firmware just wont update for me

Just like everyone else i am having problems with updating the firmware.
I am still at the 1.0.0.11 so i need to type in the code.
My USB stick is Fat32, i have followed everything to the letter from these instructions.
When i type in the code i get the notification "Updating firmware from usb!" all good so far, then after about 2 mins or so that screen just dissapears and it stays at the setup menu.
so i do the code again and i get another message on the screen, "unable to update firmeware or something"
This is very annoying as i am on the very first firmware.
I have tried updating to the 1.0.1.30 firmware, same thing happens
starting to frustrate me a fair bit as i just want this to work correctly with all the features.

so can someone tell me what other options i have from here??

Cheers

Try restoring factory defaults in the setup menu

Others have reported success with restoring the factory defaults using the setup menu option, then powering off the unit by removing the AC adapter. After that the update the should work.

Let me know if resolves your problem.

Unable to write update.bin

HI,

I used the last firware version (1.1.2.37_prod) and my dsm 330 just doesn't work very well (Wireless would stop working after 15-30 Minutes).
So I updated back to the 1.0.1.30 firmware. Version that worked for me.
So today I installed DivX Connected™ Server 1.4.0 Build 59 Beta with Kamiwa's All in One. Now my dsm 330 wokrs correctly.
But now I want install 1.1.2.37_prod firmware but my device gives a message of “Unable to write update.bin”.
I tried many USB drives (FAT & FAT 32).
I tried to reset to factory settings, but this didn't work.

So what can I do now?

Please

Failure to write update bin

I performed my first upgrade to version 1.1.2.37_prod flawlessly and ran the DSM without issue.

I then mistakenly added version 1.0.1.30 firmware after. Dont ask me why, it was late and somehow I had convinced myself that it was the later version.

I discovered this mistake after noticing that I could no longer detect my wireless network.

No worries I thought, I will go back to the lates version 1.1.2.37_prod and overwrite it.

Note I am using the same USB stick throughout and the same two downloaded firmware version.

Having reinserted the stick to upgrade once more i begin to get the "Failure to write update.bin".

I have attempted to reset factory defaults and insert the USB only to get the same message.

I am wondering if its this backward jump that has created the issue and if somehow there is a precheck being conducted in the firmware upgrade process.

Note that after the first upgrade i had the menu option for update from USB within setup, now after downgrading it is no longer available.

It appears 1.1.2.37_prod added a lot more sophistication to this upgrade process, and I wonder if the the firmware upgrade has done a total or partial overwrite of the DSM 330 leaving me with some sort of hybrid firmware.

Note the file sizes of the later version 1.1.2.37_prod is nearly twice that of the earlier one.

Anyway I am now stuck with an expensive paperweight unless anyone out there can offer some magical advice.

Same problem here

I have exactly the same problem. I updated from the original firmware to 1.1.2.37 as I had problems with the green screen issue. I then had problems with the sensitivity of the remote, so tried 1.0.1.30 which didn't fix the problem so decided to go back to 1.1.2.37. Now all I get is the message "Failure to write update.bin" whenever i try to load any firmware at all.

Seems like it's a common problem - perhaps it doesn't like loading previous firmware versions. I'm stuck now.

I read somewhere on the forum that there is a way to revert the unit back to the original firmware, but can't find it any more. I might try talking to D-Link support.

Does anyone here know how to get the box back to original firmware? There is a reset button on the back, but that seems to have no more function than the software menu reset.

The instructions are as follows -

Notice: The firmware in this update is subject to the same usage terms as the firmware it replaces in the device.

To do the update, perform all of the following steps in order:

1. Do not remove power from the device until the process is complete as the device will be ruined.

2. Unzip the update.bin file and save it to the root folder of a USB thumb (flash, pen) drive. (note: root refers to the main folder, not a folder with the name of ‘root’).

3. Make sure the file is completely copied to the drive before removing it (use the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ icon in the system tray of the PC).

2. Press the Setup button on the DSM-330 remote to display the main setup menu (DivXConnected Device).

3. Insert the USB drive with the update.bin file into the USB slot of your DivX Connected DSM-330 device.

4. If there is a USB Firmware Update option on the second page of the setup menu, select it. Otherwise press the following numeric sequence on the remote: 2828464631

5. There is no feedback for the number presses, but if done correctly, you will see an update message.

6. The update takes about 10 minutes and there is NO progress feedback.

7. You will see a completion message when it is done updating. After the completion message, remove power from the device for a few seconds, then turn it back on

Troubleshooting hints:

If the device gives a message of “Unable to find update.bin” it could mean one of the following:

The update.bin file is not the USB drive.

The update.bin file is not named correctly.

The files system of the USB drive is may not be compatible with the DSM-330. The device supports FAT and FAT32 file systems and does not support NTSF. In order to verify if this the issue, insert the drive in the PC’s USB slot and then open a My Computer window and right click the mouse on USB drive icon and choose “Properties” to see what file system is being used. The file system can be changed by using the “Format” option, but great care must be taken to back up the contents of the drive prior to doing this since all data on the chosen drive will be erased. Also be very careful in choosing the correct drive when performing a format.

If the device gives a message of “Unable to write update.bin” it means that the update.bin file is correct or not the correct one for the device.

The same problem

I am having the same problem. I have followed the instructions supplied with the bin file to the letter. I have tried 3 different memory sticks formatted as FAT and FAT32, I have renamed the file in DOS. I cannot think of anything else to try. My firmware is also 1.0.0.11 and I do not have an update option on the setup menu.

Are you getting no message at all?

Are you getting no update message at all or is it giving you a "Failure to find update.bin" or "Failure to write update.bin" message?

The "Failure to find update.bin" means there is something wrong with the way the device is reading the drive and it can not find the file.

The "Failure to write update.bin" means there is something wrong with update.bin file itself. We did have a bad one posted once.

If you are seeing nothing at all happen when you enter the code at the remote, then I do not know what the cause is other than mis-typing the code or the device not receiveing all the IR remote commands. Other than that, we have not seen an issue like this yet.

On any device with firmware between 1.0.x.x and 1.1.x.x, just pressing setup followed by 2828464631 will result in an update message even if the USB drive is not present.

The message is....

I am getting the failure to find message. Which is why I tried 3 different memory sticks, in case one was suspect. Does the 330 have a problem seeing USB Drives over or under a certain capacity?

A very small number of users have reported this

One was a divx employee and when we looked at his thumb drive we found that it was formatted incorrectly.

We currently do not know of an issue due to size or drive type.

Is there a certain feature or problem you are trying to update for? If so, maybe D-Link can send you a replacement unit that has been updated if they can't get the unit you have to update.

Firmware Update

I had the same problem with the 1st firmware update a few months. I was also told my problem was unique. I eventually got the update by resetting to factory defaults then inserting the usb. Hope this helps.

Is there a setup menu option for the update?

If your firmware version is too old (pre-production from last year) then you may not have the feature yet. If your firmware is already at 1.1 then you should have a setup menu option instead of the remote code.

What version do you currently have?
