Another v1.4 bug
Just to advise of another bug I am finding in v1.4. The server software is continually scanning the DivX Connected Downloads folder. It ramps the CPU usage up to near 100%, and when I close the software, the software still runs in the background and I have to close it via Task manager
If you can give some steps on how to reproduce it, that would help. Once I un-installed and re-installed, I could not get it to happen again.
Hi,
I have exactly same issue. I don't see any conditions either. it always does it. I killed it and killed the monitor, start a new instance - goes to 100% of one CPU right away forever stuck in scanning the DivX Connected Downloads folder. Note - that folder is empty!
I have XP professional, no viruses according to AVG.
I used to be software designer myself. I can tell from procexplorer that it is stuck in MediaEngine.dll at offset 0x56be0. DLL version 1.4.0.224
It looks like it is setting some file watch and locking / unlocking something.
I see low kernel level CPU usage - mostly user level.
Memory usage seems leveled.
It is the main process - not the child (monitor) process.
If I can get you something else - just ask.
EOM
I did not. Shell I reinstall 1.4 or 1.3?
During the un-install, it will ask if you want to keep you plug-ins and themes. It is OK to do so if you want to.
After the un-install, install the 1.4 server and the scanning issue should be gone.
Appears to have worked - will see if it happens again. Thank you
I too am experiencing this problem with the server 1.4 software continuously scanning the C:\Documents and Settings\xx\My Documents\DivX Connected Downloads.
Once the software has started doing this I know that I will not be able to add any new videos as even if I rescan the folders the DSM-330 does not recognise them.
I have been able to fix this by uninstalling and reinstalling however this only fixes the issue temporarily - usually until I add new videos or folders and rescan.
Reinstalling is a tedious process as I have to add all of my videos and music again (which has to be run overnight realistically as it takes so long).
Plus I need to keep reloading the 1.4 dll transport file to fix that error and also Kamiwa's MKV files which take ages to reconfigure.
This is a really inconvienent problem that needs to be sorted out asap.
I really like this product and it has some excellent features however it is being let down in many ways by buggy and poorly implemented software.
I like many others am finding that I spend more time reading this forum and trying to fix issues than actually using the product. I really hope server 1.5 goes a long way to fixing these problems.
Usually only one uninstall re-install resolves this problem. I myself had it once.
Can you follow the instructions on this post for the freeze capture? http://labs.divx.com/node/4913
If you can send the info generated during the scanning problem, we may be able to find a solution.
Server 1.5 may also fix the problem when it is available. It will include the DLL fix as well.
Thanks for replying so quickly. I have emailed the dmp file as suggested.
I got your dump file and gave it to engineering. Can you also try the new Server 1.5 beta available here:
Hi, thanks for your help with this matter.
Yesterday I tried the new Server 1.5 and initially it looks stable and doesn't demonstrate the scanning issue. I'll keep an eye on it to see if it comes back.
However I have now noticed a couple of additional points which are off-topic to this issue so may be better suited to a new post if necessary.
I have installed the new DivX 7 player so that I can play mkv files using Connected (previously I used the Kamiwa workaround files partially successfully). Unfortunately DivX 7 player is not playing any files (avi or mkv) in full screen on my PC correctly - playback is either jittery or freezes after a few seconds. Some avi's will not play at all.
I have uninstalled all 3-party codecs to no avail.
All files play fine in WMP.
I think the PC client is a useful addition. However on using both the PC client and DSM-330 client I found that the mkv files were only picked up after removing the DCDShowPlaybackPlugin.config from Kamiwa's pack otherwise they would show as a '?'. Perhaps a note in the release notes that you need to remove this file would be useful.
Once I had rescanned all of my mkv files showed up available to play. However they will not play at all in Connected.
In PC Client I hear sound ok however only see a green screen with intermittant lines.
On the DSM-330 playback starts and the file either plays with no sound or it freezes after a couple of seconds. Occasionally pressing the '0' button to return to the start will correct it but then either the sound goes off or playback freezes again.
I have also added the DCDShowPlaybackPlugin_0.config file that you posted yesterday for 4CC playback problems however this has not fixed the issue.
Details of a couple of problem mkv files.

I mentioned the DivX 7 problem in case it is related to the Connected playback issues.
Apologies for the long post however I would really like to get these files playing.
Thanks again and keep up the good work!
You will need a Kamiwa hack created specifically for the 1.5 version. I would suggest uninstalling 1.5 and re-installing it. You can keep plug-ins and themes during this.
Sorry I think you have misunderstood what I am asking. My post did ramble on a bit!
I want to use Server 1.5 to play mkv files instead of using the Kamiwa hack. I understand that if you install DivX 7 then you can do this.
I have removed all Kamiwa files and reinstalled server 1.5 as well as installing DivX 7.
Mkv files are picked up by connected PC and by DSM-330.
They do not play correctly as per my post above.
In Connected PC I hear sound but see only a green screen.
In Connected DSM-330 playback freezes after a few seconds but sounds plays ok.
As a test I played the files in DivX 7 player on my PC.
Playback is also stuttery and freezes in full screen but is ok in windowed mode.
All files play fine on my PC with Windows Media Player.
Some avi files also do not play at all in DivX 7 player on PC.
Hope you can help, not sure where to go from here.
Thanks

Appears to have worked - will see if it happens again. Thank you
