Jumpy Video Playback
hi all,
im having a few issues with certain files.
i have a number of AVI files and some work absolutly fine and others have jumpy playback. The amount of jump ranges from being slight to quite bad.
The solutions i have tried are converting the files using Dr.DivX and they still seem to have a certain amount of jump to them..
Now i was hoping for some help solving the issue and if you need any more information please ask me/tell me how to get it.
I Have the all in one pack by kamiwa installed and working fine, all my other files inc. mkv works perfectly.
Thanks alot

Hey everyone.
If you are having an issue with jumpy playback with the 1.4 server, I would suggest the following (temporary) fix:
http://labs.divx.com/files/DMTransport.zip
Download that file above and replace the DMTransport.dll in this folder:
C:\Program Files\DivX\DivX Connected\Bin\DivX Connected
Drag the old DMTransport.dll file to a different location first so that you have it backed up :) . Test it out and PM me to let me know how it goes. This fix has not been fully tested, however I've received positive feedback for it so far :) If anything starts acting funny you can always re-install, or replace the old dll file.

A test build has been created that resolves the issue, but there are still a few side issues to work out. I can not give an exact time frame but we should be able to give a fix at least to those who want it even if it has to be in advance of the next general beta release.
Any news on this?
It's not funny to see all these new plugins and can't use it.
i definitely would love to please get this new "fixed" build as I have using 1.4 for a while and it's been really noticeable. Any way this can be posted so that us folk that have been experiencing this jumpy (lower framerated) issue can see some relief please?
I noticed choppy playback a while ago, and just thought my home network or PC was struggling a bit. Then I remembered that I had recently been updated to the 1.4 release. Bingo!
Hope this can be fixed soon; I don't want to have to roll back to 1.3 just to be able to use my DSM-330.
Watching movies/shows gets on my nerves now when the frame rate starts falling out of sync.
Now I see what you guys were talking about. Experiencing the same issue.
Dan indicated it's been reproduced so hopefully we'll see a fix soon enough...
I have the same problem with jerky video playback but only with Server 1.4. Server 1.3 will buffer the video prior to playback; v.1.4 does not! I'm not sure why, but all test confirm the same results run on different machines (1.6 Duo-Core laptop through dual 3.6 Xeon servers, all with tons of ram and 15krpm SCSI drives).
If I had a programming wish, it would be a selectable buffer within Connect Server, but for now just programming the auto buffer back into server 1.4 would be nice.

Hi, I have just purchased my DSM-330 and have had great fun setting it up to play my media files! However I am also having similar problems to some of the other posters on this thread.
I was particulary interested in playback of HD files when I purchased this device and I have followed Kamiwa's directions on this blog post:
http://www.kamiwa.de/en/node/38
And I have managed to eventually get the DSM to recognise mkv files, which took a while!
However the problem I am having is that I am getting very jumpy playback with all 720p H264 mkv files. These are all AC3 encoded. They all play initally for a few seconds (without sound) then pause for about 1 second, then resume play. Eventually the sound comes on however the file playback continues to drop out every couple of seconds, pause for a second or two, then resume.
I have Haali media splitter, ffdshow (configured to Kamiwa's settings), FLV Splitter. I also installed AC3 Filter to no avail.
I am running Server 1.3 (I reverted from 1.4 to see if this would make a difference but it has not) and 1.1.3.4 EU Firmware. The strange thing is the pauses in playback all seem to happen at exactly the same time in each video.
All videos play back perfectly on my PC using Media Player Classic.
Current PC specs: 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64, 2GB RAM. Running Connected to Samsung 37" HDTV via HDMI. DSM-330 set to 720p output. Connected Wireless 11g via BT HomeHub2.
Would somebody possibly be able to suggest why this is happening and what I can do to fix it please? All other DivX files play perfectly as do Standard Def mkv files and the HD demo files 'Adrenaline Rush', 'Sky Dance', etc. (Although some HD wmv files do not play also).
I am very happy with this device however I just can't seem to get these files to play correctly.
Many Thanks
Tariq
Hi Guys,
I am having very similar frustrating probelms since I downloaded version 1.4.
My video play back was fine before I updated to the new v 1.4. I am not the worlds best with computers and was wondering how I can revert to v 1.3 or earlier to get my video play back on my TV back to normal.
I have tried looking for the download on the connected download screen, however v 1.4 is the only one avaliable.
The slow play back is driving me nuts, any help on getting me back to v 1.3 or my video play back, back to normal will be great!!!!!!
Cheers guys !!!
You can find a copy of 1.3 Server at
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/multimedia/dsm-330/DivXConnectedInstaller1.3.1.exe
That's where I found it while I couldn't find a copy on the divx site or any other DLink FTP Server.
Thanks alot for that Alf i auto updated to find that the jumpy playback hasnt been fixed in the updated so i am glad i can go back to 1.3 for the time being :)
Thanks very much, am up and running again your helps been great cheers!!!!!
I've sent you all private messages with instructions on how to send me the files you are having problems with so that we can try to produce the issue.
Also, when replying, please try and give any special settings you have as well as any information you can give us about where you got the file from, how it was created, etc.
Thanks!

@ DIVX SUPPORT...
Hi Guys,
Please can you acknowledge this issue - there are many of us with this complaint -
I would like to know if it has been fixed in the latest release - 14 b59 'production'? I don't want to go through the hassel of a clean install of the server software yet again only have to revert back again like we keep having to do.
Many thanks,
Olywa
We have reproduced this issue and it will be a high priority bug for fixing in the next release.
Any progress on this XVID fix??? Please.
Hi dsalmonsen, Dan,
Any update on this please? It has been a month since this problem was introduced and you'd said it was reproduced and would be corrected high-priority but it's still present in the recent beta release :(
Please can we have an ETA for a fix please?
Many thanks,
Olywa123
+ 1 as above please :)
one week later - can we expect a new beta/release soon?
thanks!
with server 1.4.1b1 playback (at least with xvid files) is still choppy :(
With Server 1.4 I didn't find ANY xvid file that played well! So (I think) you just can take every xvid file you find on the net to see this bug :(
With DivX (SD) files the bug is also there, but for me playback was not so jumpy as with xvid (seems frame drop with divx was only about 10-20% and not 30-50% as with xvid)
Thanks alot for all your help and suggestions guys. I have now gone back to v 1.3 and seems to have solved the problem.
Hopefully they will sort out this issue before they realse another version.
I can confirm this issue with absolutly every XviD file I have.. They all seem to be played only at half speed (12.5fps and not 25fps - sound is ok). Doesn't matter if I change FourCC from xvid to dx50 - problem remains.
This does not happen when I play DivX Files! At least they are much smoother and seem to jump only from time to time. Also on-the-fly converted files seem to be fine (only jump from time to time).
This is a very big problem and didn't happen with 1.3 (at least not so often... With 1.3 I also had some jumpy files - mostly xvid)
So please, can this be fixed very fast?!
Same with my DSM-330 , playback is not smooth…..hopefully for 1.4 final release you guys can get this right
yeah that sounds like a similar problem to mine.
I havent really looked into the differences with the frame rate but now that has been mentioned i might look into it more.
Is there a way to re encode videos with a different frame rate ?
or maybe to setup fddshow so that it can handle the framerates ?
I tried more of my movies and it seems that about 30% of my movies all have a certain amount of jump.
Hi T0rm3nt,
I don't think you should consider re encoding to fix this (and don't believe that ffdshow is the problem). I'm pretty sure they will resolve it in a future release. for me I have gone back to server 1.3.1 and things are much smoother. What I can't believe is that you and I are the only people with this issue!
QUESTION AT DIVX SUPPORT:-
Hi guys,
Please can you confirm if anyone else has reported this issue? On 1.4 I get a consistently 'un-smooth' playback (wouldn't quite call it jerky but almost) as if it's playing at the wrong framerate? I'm running 1.4 b59 (although have gone back to 1.3.1 for now) with the latest firmware and on a well speced Vista machine, wired connection.
Would really like to know if the issue is known and expected to be fixed for 1.4 final?
Thanks a lot,
Olywa
I have a similar issue of choppy playback with a lot of my files with server 1.4.
I have also found that it randomly crashes in the middle of playing a video and it just freezes on the screen. I then have to close and reopen the server software. This also happens a lot when I start the box up. It will play the Divx Connected intro video, then just sit at a blank screen.

I have this issue too.
It's pretty anoying, and I hope it will be fixed soon !
I mentioned the same with PAL-files from TV.
And I'm also back to server 1.3 now.
Hi,
I have a similar issue as the OP (maybe) I have a lot of movies in various formats, the majority are divx/xvid AVIs. Since v1.4 (54 and 59) I have had an issue with playback being not very smooth. This aplies to about half of my vids (I've tried around 30). I've had my box since Feb and I'm very familiar with the config files and codec set-up so I know its not that.
It seems likely to me that the issue is with the framerate (as its quite subtle as if it's dropping a couple of frames per sec). I wondered if there have been any changes in this area since 1.4? Say if I have my Server set to Pal (~24 fps) but I play back an NTSC (~30fps) file is the software now handling this any differenlty than 1.3?
I have the latest firmware and a reasonably powerful machine and the issue is not present on v1.3 for me.
T0rm3nt - does this sound similar to your problem?
thanks for any help,
Olywa
