Hi all,

Ive just purchased a LG Viewty phone. After talking with friends at work I decided to install the software that came with the phone in the hope of being able to convert DVD's to watch on my mobile.

Im guessing that was my first mistake. After installing the disc, it said I needed to pay for a missing part of the convertor. So I went onto the website and paid my £6.50 hoping all would now be sorted. Wrong again. When trying to convert DVD's to DivX it wouldn't allow me, saying the format was wrong and alsorts of other issues...

Basically what I want to know is can I or can I not put DVD's on my Viewty and if so what am I doing wrong???

Please help.... Andy.

Has there been any updates?

Did anybody have any updates on this? I am having a similar problem where I have 2 movies that I ripped to my hard drive and burnt one back to disk. I tried dragging the videos from the Hard drive and on disk and still received the error that the file type was not supported, even though these movies play fine on both my hard drive and in my dvd player. The MPEG-2/DVD Plug-in is showing as registered. Can anybody tell me what else I need to do in order to drag and drop my vob files into Divx Converter and convert to avi without having to resort to other 3rd party apps to do the conversion for me?

VOB Files

If you have unprotected VOB files and you have DivX Converter with the MPEG2 Plug-in and an AC3 Filter audio codec, you should be able to drag-n-drop the VOB into Converter and create DivX files.

Does DivX Converter give you an error message?

DVD copy protection

Most commercial DVDs are copy protected. DivX software will not read or convert a copy protected DVD. If you have a non-protected DVD, DivX Converter with the optional MPEG2 plug-in will convert DVD video into a DivX Media File. However, DivX does not make any software or tools for circumventing copy protection.

There are many software programs available which falsely claim to create "DivX" video files. However, only DivX Certified software is guaranteed to work with DivX Certified devices. If you create a video using non-DivX software, your DivX phone may report an error like, "format not supported".

If you are using DivX software to create videos for your phone, be sure to use the "Mobile" profile setting. The "Home Theater" profile is typically the default and most common setting. However, "Home Theater" devices are usually DVD players that are much more capable than a cell phone.

In short, don't try to copy a protected DVD, only use genuine DivX video converters and make sure the software is set on "Mobile" to guarantee the resulting video will play on your phone.

Viewty, I don't know

Viewty,

I don't know anything about the viewty, but you probably want to convert the files to AVI with divx or xvid codec.

I've found these things useful for doing these things:

The VLC player (for looking at videos)
The Handbrake converter (for converting from one format to another)
DVD Shrink (for reading DVDs from a disk onto the hard drive)
Img Burn (for burning images back onto disk)
DVD43 (for making it easier to read DVDs, especially region 2 DVDs on my region 1 equipment.)

I think if you were to look at these tools and what's written about them, you'd narrow down your focus to some of the best public domain/shareware tools that i've seen. Others might know better.

I think DVD Shrink is totally unsupported, maybe the same for DVD43.

There are also commercial products that fill these roles, but frankly, I wasn't ready to shell a lot of cash out until I knew that this stuff would even work right. After several days of fooling around with this, I have about 220 different videos on about 100Gb of hard drive serving up with DivX connected.

Good luck!

Software in use.

Ive got DivX for Windows installed on my PC, version 6.8, with the converter and ive got the mpeg-2 extra it said I would need.

The software says its simply a case of "drag and drop", drag what you need converting into the box and away it goes. But with me its not, its says it can't do it. Is it because there is some sort of protection on the disc that doesn't allow it to do it or is it because im doing something wrong???

Format???

Having found some more software on the net, thanks google, ive managed to convert a dvd to *.avi. After transferring the file to the phone I wrongly thought the file would work, but no it didn't. The phone says format not supported.

So where am I going wrong now?

I've recently experienced

I've recently experienced the same issue: 'format not supported'.

I converted a file using the divx 'mobile' setting (using the basic divx converter) and received this message on my new LG Viewty.

Any thoughts?

Also, can anyone explain the difference between 'mobile' and 'Qmobile'?

Do any videos work?

Please try using DivX Converter to create several Mobile videos. Verify that the Mobile videos are 320x240 (or less) using DivX Player on your computer. Is your Viewty able to play any of the files? Do they all fail? Is it just one video in particular that always fails?

Mobile videos are 320x240. qMobile videos are 177x144. qMobile files will be smaller and hence more suited for sending to/from your phone over-the-air. Mobile files will look better but occupy more space and take longer to transfer.
