PC Client Choppy Playback

I was thinking of buying the D-link DivX Connected Device, but wanted to try it out first. When I use the PC Client I get choppy inaudible playback on my avi files and my mp3s.

I have no issues with any of my files on any other software or devices. I thought it might be a codec issue so I installed the latest k-lite mega pack, but the results were still the same.

My OS is Vista Home Premium and the pc is not a gaming machine but is more than fast enough for home media.

I don't want to buy the device if it's not going to work for me.

Any ideas anyone?

Choppy playback pc client and device

I,ve owned a D-Link DivX Connected device for some time.
Playback of DivX and AVI files via wireless was,nt a problem but since I converted my network to a comptrend home plug system playback is choppy expecialy on pan shots. Considering the hard wired network is much faster than wireless (100mb) I,m at a loss as to the problem. I,ve used several different display and server setup options with the same result??.
I originaly changed from a wireless setup due to interference problems so don.t want to return to it.
As to the pc client question, it would never run properly on my pc either but the device itself was fine except for the above.

Thanks

Thanks man,

So do you think if I get the device it should work ok?

I've read in some other posts that the pc client was only ever intended as a developer tool and was never optimized for full playback. That seems a pretty dumbass thing considering it's what most people will try before they buy.

Thanks for your advice! :-)

my setup == success

hey shutterskull,

I run my connected device through an old 802.11b wireless router - netgear mr814v2; it runs AWESOME with the following caveats:

- network saturation can impact playback; I've noticed if I'm downloading *things* and my daughter is watching a movie from the media share it will cause those symptoms you experience
- some video scenes can get choppy if it requires a lot of redrawing; the codec will only send "redraw" information between keyframes (correct me if I'm wrong). Essentially this is the portion of the viewable screen that HAS changed - if it hasn't changed, it doesn't need an update. For example: if you watched a clip that has the showtime fuzzy screen THX like intro there is so much that needs to get updated from the network - it might not be able to handle it. Animations, however, work fantastic because the backgrounds don't tend to change much. Anyhow, if there is an enormous amount of data being sent over - it could saturate your network and cause these symptoms.

I hope this provides some insight as to what's going on. Please make sure to follow the system requirements (don't know if vista is supported) and also make double sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.

Does the client work on the same machine as the server?

good luck!
