A problem with AVI file

I want to clarify a few points from you:

I use Sony Ericsson P1i.

What kinds of files are supported by DivX Mobile?

I download avi files mainly from Youtube. But when I copy them to my phone, DivX shows it as thumbnail but cannot play saying: Error, file not supported: "Mp42" (although it is not mp4, but avi)

I need help in solving the matter.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Krish.

DivX files

DivX Mobile Player only plays DivX video files. If you have an unsupported file, you can usually convert it into a DivX Mobile video using DivX Converter on the Mobile profile setting.

More specifically, "DivX Mobile" files are MPEG4 Simple Profile video with MP3 audio in an AVI file container. Not all AVI files are DivX files. Not all MPEG4 files are DivX files.

AVI is a standard file format for video but the standard doesn't limit what you can put in an AVI file. Sadly, this means you can't say things like, "send me an AVI file of that video" because you don't know what you'd get.

Likewise, MPEG4 is a broad standard for video compression but the standard doesn't limit what kind of file container to use. This means you can put MPEG4 in an AVI file or a Matroska file or a Quicktime file.

The term "DivX file" is much better defined than either of the other two but it is often misused. There are many programs which falsely claim to create DivX files.

Even the term "DivX file" is still a broad range of possibilities so we further sub-divide it into "DivX Mobile" and "DivX Home Theater". The differences are primarily the maximum size and bitrate of the video. Mobile videos are smaller and simpler than Home Theater videos.

Thanks a lot for such detailed clarification. I appreciate it.
