re-encoding Divx video
Hello,
if I wish to re-encode some Divx video, (for example, in Virtualdub)
should I worry about the Divx decoder settings?
If I leave automatic deblocking on, then is applied to the
source as opened in Virtualdub - The input file has been modified
before Virtualdub has done anything.
Should all these kinds of options be turned off before re-encoding the
file?

davexnet,
Generally I find that it's a good idea to leave the deblocking on, it may soften your video slightly but in frames with a higher quantizer (typically during fast motion) it is going to prevent blocking artifacts from being hard-coded into the output.
In the VFW codec deblocking should respect any custom settings, and when set to "Automatic" it implies full deblocking.
Generally I find that one of the few cases for actually re-encoding the video is to reduce the resolution, e.g. for a mobile device, in which case any softening will be offset somewhat by the downsampling anyway, especially if you're using a nice sharp resize filter such as Lanczos.
