Web Player buffering 0% blocked
Hello,
I'm having a problem with the divx web player.
The streaming server has 1gbps connection, the file has 700mb, 600users watching that file, using lighttpd.
Buffering stays at 0%... for looong time, however, download speed is 120k(my maximum speed) or even 400-500k for some friends.
Assuming 128k would be good speed for streaming, the server should support at least 1200 people streaming, but after 300-400 it doesn't buffer good.
I've been trying to tune lighttpd and using NULL as buffering mode, but the same result.
What do you think is the problem?
Why would the web player download be slower?
What should i do? What tests should i run?
Thanks

had the same problem since
had the same problem since beta 2 and now beta 3
i am on Win7x64, Firefox 4 Beta ...
my solution is go back to 2.0.2.40
just download DivX Web Player 2.0.2.40,this contains only the DivX Plus Web Player folder and replaced your own Folder ( or just renamed ur old folder to "DivX Plus Web Player Backup") with it...
that should work

ideas
it appears that you've identified your pain threshold; now you need to isolate where this bottleneck derives from. what operating system are you using? does it limit lighthttpd with file handles, threads, etc? what kind of networking equipment? where are you hosting this? are there any throttles imposed by your provider? what kinds of resources does your machine have? what kind of hard drives and bus does it have? answering these questions and identifying their inherent limitations will help you understand where your problem derives from. Have you considered hosting the media file itself on another system... some kind of CDN like akamai or amazon s3? it's usually a "good idea" to use these services to resolve these types of issues instead of wrestling with them yourself - and may be cheaper too.
good luck!
