Right, i get the feeling this community only helps people if they need help, i have put firmware version 1.1.3.4 and i have server version 1.4 the most current versions of both, now my dsm-330 keeps crashing, shows menus for a short time but flashes black constantly, i am about to send it back to amazon, has anybody had this problem? or can describe a way to fix it, the d-link customer service is very very poor, i could do the steps they pointed out in my sleep, again i just need any person to advise if they have had this and how they fixed it!!!

Might sound daft

Looking back I had a similar issue to DAVROSS23 after upgrading to 1.1.3.4. The initial startup screen with the 4 progress spheres had vertical black and green distortion. This was when connected via scart to SD. Having upgraded to HD and HDMI connected the problem has gone away. Therefore ae's comment may sort your issue but first just try disconnect all cables including power, then reconnect HDMI first then power.

This is not an issue we have seen or heard of before

Is there another PC you could try it on to verify if it is a PC/Server issue vs a device/HDMI issue? Have you tried updating the graphics driver on your PC?

It is not a graphics driver or pc issue as the only thing that helped my last problem (3 dots then black when trying to connect to the server) went away when i updated the firmware but was replaced with this flashing black every few seconds then crashing completely.
so it must be firmware related, i just dont understand how this unit went from working fine to being a total pain for no reason, no software or hardware changes on the pc and the only time i tried to upgrade the firmware on the machine was after it broke!

Here are some things to try that may help

In the device setup, there are display options for choosing various high definition resolutions. Try some the other resolutions in the list and see if you can get it working properly.

Hi, its not the resolution as it does display properly but flashes balck every few seconds leading on to a complete crash. every time, if it was resolution related the remote would work behind the flashing screens.

So you have tried different resolutions already?

If you not tried other resolutions, I would give it try since it is easy to do.

hdcp handshake?

Could be a problem with the hdcp-handshake used by a hdmi connection.
Try to connect your tv with a component or a scart cable. If the problem is gone, try to use another hdmi cable.

FIXED

Hi i have fixed this issue, i downgraded my firmware to 1.37 it then worked and the proceeded to get the flashing black screen again, i upgraded too version .3.4 and removed all codecs that were not part of the connected install, so i assume the codecs where to blame all along, so anybody who experiences flashing black screens periodically, try taking off any 3rd party codec packs you may have installed, mine was from an mkv to avi converter programme, hope this can help someone else.

The DSM-330 is actually quite a good piece of kit once you overcome all your hurdles.

Glad to hear you fixed the problem

You might want to try adding the codecs back since it was is very unlikely that the 3rd party codecs caused problems with the menus.

I beg to differ, as a test i

I beg to differ, as a test i reinstalled the codecs and once i installed them the device did the same thing while on the video or music etc slection screen and also when playing anything, so i took off the codec pack and all was fine again, it may be worth pointing out this was an MKV codec pack for converting files to AVI.

Can you let us know which codec pack it was?

I would like to try to reproduce the problem. Please provide a link to it if possible.
