I can stream mkv fine, it plays with audio on the divx7 player but when streamed to the dsm-330 it is silent, when i press the information button while playing on the dsm-330 its says audio is muted but it isnt muted on the device or the tv?? i had to install and ac3 codec to get the audio to play on the pc but never had any affect on the dsm-330? anybody know why?

bumping this up as it was spammed to the bottom, someone must know why this audio muted issue happens on mkv streaming?

Well I got rid of the the

Well I got rid of the the audio muted crap by installing ffdshow and the latest config file from kamiwa.

Although it is claimed that it is for 1.4 it works with 1.5 aswell

---------
FFdshow is only used for audio.....divx7 makes sure the video plays! For some raeson it stil can get out of sync when stopped and played from the start again!

I used the config and

I used the config and ffdshow from this rar:

http://www.kamiwa.de/userfiles/file/AllInOnePacks/All-In-One-Pack-DivX7-Edition%20(2008-12-25).rar

I don't remember if I installed the reg files but I dont thinks so. Try it without them first is my suggestion! And just install "as is"

Let me know if it helped!

Can't get the link to post correctly: just copy paste ;)

But this doesn't work for

But this doesn't work for DTS!
Even with Kamiwas config and ffdshow installed, no sound with mkv+dts, although you get sound when you are using the Connected PC Client or MPC

AC3 decoder on board...

You can see in dsalmonsen's post that the issue is the DSM-330 needs to receive the audio in a format it can decode.

So if I have AC3 5.1, the DSM-330 decodes that and plays it out on my SPDIF port as 'AC3 5.1' right?

Should there be a passthrough mode if you have SPDIF?

I have tried MKV with AC3 and it plays ot the device

The device has a an AC3 decoder in it, so it is not dependent on transcoding for AC3. I was able to play the clip you sent with AC3 and hear it on the DSM-330 in stereo, but it was lower volume than other clips.

That must have been me

Sorry, won't happen again.....

2 or 5 channel

In the audio setup do you have it on 2 channel or 5 channel?

I spent 1/2 an hr once trying to get full sound on a file (strangely has background sound but no dialogue).. However, it was a simple solution - changing it from 2 channel to 5 channel

Might not be relevent but thought it was worth a try?

My DSM-330 is connected to my amplifier by an optical cable. Is it possible it's sending your audio out over an SPDIF port but not an analog one? I'm not in front of mine so I'm not sure what controls are available to adjust.

Thanks

Audio muted indicates that the audio codec is not supported.

Try DivX Converter, or Virtual Dub

It is best to use AAC audio for MKV files in Connected.

AAC

Doesn't that imply that the audio is transcoded?

Does VirtualDub use the DiVX codec? There's a trick I haven't tried yet.

Yes, it does, but audio

Yes, it does, but audio transcoding does not take very much CPU power. You could also use MP3 or AC3 if your PC has an AC3 codec. In those cases the there is no transcoding of audio.

How is it possible that on

How is it possible that on the Connected PC software my file play with audio but om the device itself it keeps getting the audio muted CRAP?

Shouldn't it work the same? Keep in mind in my opinion the connected device should do what you advertise nowadays (play mkv files) without me having to edit the file!

HOw do I find out what codec is missing and do I need to put a config file in again or should reinstalling a ffdshow do the trick?

I'm having the same prolem

I'm having the same prolem with MKV + DTS.. Files play well on PC and even with Connected PC, but no sound with DSM-330 :(
I edited the config file, but it doesn't seem to work - strange.
So this is no codec problem...
Anyone any idea? It must be possible in any way - but how?

Here is what is supported for MKV

With server 1.5 and DivX 7 installed both the Connected PC player and the device will play MKV files with the following codecs:

Video Formats: H.264, MPEG-4ASP
Audio Formats: AAC, MP#, AC3

MKV may contain many other formats which would require installing the codecs and updating the .config file such one from by Kamiwa, however it does not look like he has one for server 1.5 yet. The one for server 1.4 will not work properly for server 1.5.

That is not completely true.

That is not completely true. I tried the latest configfile and it seems to resolve the audiomuted issue with all but one file.

BEfore installing that I also noticed that resumeplay does not work (is this a bug or am I again the ony one with this problem)

dsm with dts audio

I myself have been struggling with mkv files with dts audio. I have found a reasonable solution. It may not be the most convenient way to solve it, but it does seem to work 90% of the time. Download the following freeware:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PopCorn_MKV_AudioConverter

It coverts the dts audio to ac3, which is playable on the dsm. It may not play right on the Divx 7 player, sounds like the chipmunks, plays really fast. But it does seem to play properly on the dsm. I believe the dsm has a built in ac3 encoder. Hopefully Divx will support dts audio in the future, it seems to be quite common with mkv files these days. Good Luck!!!
